Third Memory: Maternity leave Part one
Carrying a tray of cold drinks Ochako headed up the stairs that lead towards her apartment as she was hoping that the argument was over. Coming closer towards the door she can hear them still arguing, making her groan.
They’ve been at it for hours.
Opening the door she entered her apartment to see Tenya, Momo, and Shoto arguing about their house plans while All-might was sitting in silence with a worrying look.
“-I’m saying it’s wise to have a safe-room her and the child.” Shoto stated towards his friends
“We’re trying to build her a home where she can feel safe! Not to show fear.” Momo said
“And what’s wrong with having a extra bit of safety underneath?”
“Todoroki, we’re not saying you’re wrong, but if any of the contract workers or even anyone from the HPSC finds out there’s a safe-room under her house would make it suspicious now wouldn’t it?” Tenya stated
“Well what if someone tries to break into her house? Either it be a villain, mercenaries or even the HPSC, where would she even go if she couldn’t handle it?”
“Just be glad I’m more focused on the baby that I don’t want to do anything drastic right now Shoto.” Everyone turned around to see her “I do appreciate you guys spending your time helping me out with the house, but maybe we should just drop some of the designs.” She pass out their drinks as she sits down next to All-might
“Ochako, we’re just concerned about your and the child's safety.”
“I know, but we’re not going anywhere if we keep on arguing.” She said while rubbing her temples “Can we just put the safe-room on the side and focus more on the property itself?”
“…right, well we’ve almost completed the paperwork for the property.” Tenya said while taking a sip of drink “Momo and I decided to split half on the final sale but putting under your name.”
“You guys didn’t have to-“
“But we wanted to, after everything we’ve went through, we want to make sure you’re have whatever you need to raise your child safely and without any worry.” Momo stated
The five settled down as Ochako was preparing for dinner as Yagi came into the kitchen with a tired look
“Need some help?”
“No I should be good, thank you.”
The two stood in silence
“Young Ochako, mind if I ask you something?”
“Of course.”
“…are you afraid of what’s to come?” His question caused her to stop what she was doing and turned around towards him “I mean…it must be terrifying for all this to happen.”
“It is, but I won’t stop it from happening, me and izuku want this.”
“It’s funny, this is something I tried to avoid back when I had one for all.”
“Really?”
“With the power I had I tried to avoid any relationship with another, I didn’t want them to be in danger like what happened to Nana’s family…” He looked ashamed for a moment “I always wonder though…what could’ve been if I decided to be selfish for once? What if I were to talk to the young woman I knew when I was a kid and told her how I really feel? What if I had my own family? I guess there’s a lot of things I could’ve done without the fear but still chose not to.” He sat down for a moment while looking outside the window
“But for him..he needs it more than I do. Maybe for once in his life, he could find his own happiness from what you two created, to finally have his own selfish moment.”
“I want him to have that too. The world has been awful to him for most of his life, I just want him to finally be happy.” She told him “But no matter what I try to tell him, he doesn’t listen.”
“Well hopefully he’d start listening when the baby comes.”
“Hopefully is the keyword.” She said while looking outside looking a bit distressed “You never knew about Nana’s son before you were given one for all, right?”
“Unfortunately yes…”
“…if something were to happen to the both of us…would you-“
“Hold on Young Uraraka! If something were to happen, we’ll stop them before-“
“All Might!” She stopped him before he could finish “Please. If something were to happen…please watch over our child.”
“…I…of course..”
“It’s not that I don’t want my family or Inko to take care of them, Its just-“
“I understand. No matter what hell I might go through, I promise I would die protecting your child no matter what.” He told her while noticing his phone is ringing, pulling it out of his pocket he put it next to his ear.
“Hello Mera, how can I-“ He stopped himself for a moment to process what he just heard “…what do you mean they’ve hired professional help?”
- Later that day -
“Professional hitmen!?” She yelled at them, after the phone call, Mera requested that the two come to his office as he wanted to discuss the news he’d received
“Unfortunately yes. They’ve decided to take more personal matters in their hands when it comes to capturing him.” Mera stated while showing her the papers of the hitmen “From what I’ve gathered, these men and women are hired to bring him alive.”
“What’re we gonna do?”
“Sadly we can’t do much, but there’s someone who can help Midoriya out.”
“Who?”
Mera used his phone while not looking at them, soon he let it down as the door opened to see the scarred Lady Nagant, which surprised the pregnant woman
“Wait…I thought she died after he fight with Izuku?” Ochako said as the older woman sat down next to them
“That’s just another lie for their advantage.” She told her pulling out a smoke “Ain’t that right Mera? Just another sweet little lie to justified the means of saving the day.”
*Sigh* “This is Kaina Tsutsumi, we’ve faked her death after the explosion she sustained after her fight because she wanted to help out Midoriya when it came to the HPSC wanting control of him.” Mera explained
“I know what those bastards will do, I won’t let them pull another version of either me or hawks.” She stated
“So what do you know about these hitmen?” Ochako asked her while waving off the smoke from the cigarette
“Still working on that, however I’ve gotten some information on one person in particular, his name’s Sanguijuela.” Kaine explained while showing a picture of the hispanic man “From what I’ve gotten about him, his quirk allows him to use other people’s quirk by consuming their blood.”
“Just like Toga…” Ochako remembering that after the war, nobody could find anything on the last remaining League of villains member, which concerned her to no end. Yes, she’s a killer and needed to be arrested for her crimes, but she’s also a victim of improper quirk treatment and child abuse by her parents who didn’t help her when she needed them the most.
“I’m gonna try to find out more about the other hitmen, but for now I suggest that he should stay out of sight before one of them finds him” She said
“Agree, he may not like it, but to make sure he doesn’t get hunted down he’ll lay low for now.” All-might stated
Soon after he and Ochako left the building, only to be stopped by Kaina who threw out her cigarette on the ground, as if she was waiting for them.
“So, how long you had his kid?” Kaina asked
“Excuse me?!” Ochako quickly looked around to make sure nobody else heard her question “How do you know that?”
“He hasn’t been fully focused on his patrols lately.” From what she said, Ochako knew who she was referring to “I’ve been keeping an eye on him and lately he’s been a bit less focused on what he’s doing, like something’s bothering him. Then it was when he was helping a child who was lost and couldn’t find his parents, the way he’d spoke to the child, holding his hand to make sure he feels safe, it made me realize he’s gotten someone carrying his own child.” Kaina looked at her with a smirk “So, how long?”
“…a few weeks”
“Huh. Thought it was longer.”
“Sorry but is there literally anything else you wanted to talk about besides how long I’ve been pregnant?” Ochako was starting to get irritated by Kaina
“Not gonna beat around the bush but you shouldn’t see him as much as you like for now.” Kaina said to her “Even the tiniest interaction between you two could be a lot of information for the people hunting after him.”
“You don’t think I know that!” Ochako snapped back in anger “I know because every time he’s near me he has to remind himself that he can’t stay with for long because of what might happen to me? No you don’t! But I do know! It’s been like this for years!”
“Look I-“
“No! You may think I don’t understand what’s at stake but I do…ever since high school I know the risk..” She began to tear up as All-might placed his hand on her shoulder while looking at Kaina with mild anger
“I’m sorry…I just want you to be careful…these people aren’t as merciful, they’ll do whatever it takes to get to their goal..” She began to walk away before stopping “He saved my life..he could’ve just beaten me up or kill me but instead reached out to me. He gave me another reason to do good despite what I’ve been through…I hope that your child gives has that same heroism the world desperately needs.” She then left the two to their own.
She wanted to go after her and apologize, but notices that All-might still held onto her
“She wouldn’t want you to follow her.” He told her, causing her to sigh
“I still feel awful for coming off on her.”
“I know you do. Maybe later you call apologize, but for now, we should keep our heads low.”
“Right…mind dropping me off back at my place?”
“Of course, just don’t get mad like you did while we were getting here.”
“You drive like a stuntman who’s drunk!”
“….it was only a bit over the speed limit…”
“GOING FOURTY MILES OVER THE SPEED LIMIT ISN’T A BIT OVER!”
Third Memory: Maternity leave Part two
Moving back with her parents wasn’t as difficult like before, back then when she was moving her stuff for UA she couldn’t use her quirk to help move the heavy furniture and boxes, now all she has to do was touch the stuff they were carrying and it was light as a feather. Though being told not to do anything while your friends and family do all the work ticks her off, despite having a quirk that’ll make the heaviest boulder feel like a balloon but can’t argue against her parents who are doing their best to help her.
She watched Tenya, Shoto, Tsuyu and Momo moving some of the boxes to the house while Ochako focused on making everyone lunch as a thank you, she notices on the small kitchen radio that there’s been reports on arrested villains with highly dangerous background.
“-and to top it all off, most of the Pro heroes weren’t ever aware of these people running around our country. Like imagine that, telling us that you’re here to help us but not being told there were these killers running around. How ridiculous do you have to be to ignore the danger these people bring?” The radio host ranted off during his show while Ochako chopped the vegetables with anger “It’s no wonder they want to kill of the Villain hunter, he’s the only one doing actual good.”
“Mind turning off that crap mom?” She asked her mom who was putting away the laundry before she came into the room and turn off the radio “Thank you”
“Not a fan?”
“It’s not that…it’s just..it’s not fair.”
“How come?”
“We’ve been through so much, everyone didn’t knew what the HPSC were doing behind our backs and yet they insult us with names, throw slanders and lies just to get back at everyone.” She stopped to look at her “I won’t disagree with what they say about the HPSC, but to insult every hero that fought and die to save the day…it’s unfair..”
“I know what you mean…sometimes people can be cruel..but that’s why you have friends and family.” She walked over to give her a hug
“Is it wrong that I’m doing this? Taking time off just to raise our child?”
“That depends, if you feel that’s it wrong, then what’s stopping you from continuing?”
“…because I want to see this through.” Ochako responded while seeing her mother smile “No matter what.”
After a while her friends and father came back into the dining room where they could enjoy their lunch, while Ochako sat down she noticed that Tsuyu was sitting a bit closer towards Shoto which was giving Ochako an idea she can’t confirm just yet.
“I wanted to thank you guys for helping me with my stuff, I know how little time off you have but I really do appreciate it.” She said
“It’s not a problem Ochako.” Tenya said while drinking a glass of water
“Same here.” Momo said as Tsuyu and Shoto nodded in agreement
“There’s something I do wanted to ask though.”
“Fire away…figuratively.” Shoto joked only to a chuckle from Tsuyu
“Well…what do you guys plan to do outside of hero work? I mean…was there anything you guys might do when there’s free time?” She asked them
“To be honest, I haven’t really thought about that.” Tenya spoke while shifting his glasses “Outside of hero work, I try to focus on my fitness and finish what leftover work I have.” He played with his food for a bit before looking at her “But now that you’ve mentioned it, I guess I could try to find a hobby..”
“Wait sorry, I wasn’t trying to-“
“No it’s alright Ochako. I guess when I say it like that..I don’t have anything else to do besides fulfilling my family’s legacy.”
“You’re not alone. I’ve been keeping myself busy with heroics that I haven’t even done anything for myself..” Momo stated while looking at her drink
Ochako looked at Tsuyu who was nudging Shotos arm before looking at him, then towards them. He looked at her with a nod before clearing his throat
“There’s something we’ve bene wanting to mention.” Shoto said while looking at his other two friends. “Me and Tsuyu have been dating for a while.”
This caused Momo to cough on her drink, Tenya to drop his fork and Ochako to nearly drop her jaw off onto the table, which made her parents chuckle from her reactions.
“Three months to be clear.” *Ribbit* Tsuyu corrected him while holding his hand
“I uh…never expected you two to be together…what caused this might I ask?” Momo said while putting he drink on the table
“It started around the anniversary of when Izuku left…one night after leaving work, I went to a small barbecue restaurant where Tsuyu was also having dinner by herself.” Shoto started
“I was..having some issues with a recent mission and needed to calm myself down so I wanted to get something to eat. *Ribbit* I figure a small barbecue joint wouldn’t do any harm, little did I know Shoto had the same idea.” Tsuyu continued
“After a hour, we…well had a few beers during the dinner and uh..” Shoto began to get uncomfortable
“I kissed him. *Ribbit* I didn’t know why but I just didn’t want to be alone that night..”Tsuyu weakly stated, only to feel comfortable when he held onto her
“After that night. I guess I had the same idea, for most of my life I didn’t have a proper family experience so I always thought I would be alone for the rest of my life so I wouldn’t make the same mistakes…but Tsuyu showed that there’s more to life than just being alone so you don’t hurt others.” Shoto said while hugging her
“I’m happy for you two..though I kind of wish you mentioned this earlier. There’s nothing to be afraid of.” Tenya stated
“He’s right, there’s no shame with what you two have.” Momo added
“It’s not shame that’s keeping our relationship a secret, it’s…well the HSCP.” Shoto stated
“What do you mean?” Tenya asked
“With what happened with his father with his family past, the HSCP is worried that if Shoto is in a relationship-“
“They’re worried I might act like my father.” Shoto said deadpanned with Tsuyu holding his hand “They don’t want another scandal like my father so they’re keeping an eye on me no matter where I go.”
“For crying out loud.” Tenya rubbed his eyes “It’s like no matter what we do we have to walk around them like it’s a minefield.”
“So what’re you two going to do now?” Ochako asked
“…I’m thinking of just quitting Heroics in general..” Shoto surprised everyone, even Tsuyu was surprised
“WHAT?”
“What? Why would you do that?” Tsuyu asked “Shoto, we can work this out. It doesn’t matter that-“
“Tsu, I’ve been thinking about this for a long time now.” Shoto told her with a tired expression “Ever since I’ve been a young child with dreams of becoming as amazing as All might…heroics hasn’t been too kind to me. My father pushed me to the limits where it destroyed my family, it basically put a target on one of my best friends back just for doing what’s right…and now I’m being lead on a leash so I don’t go out of bounds for wanting to be selfish…I’m tired of not having control of what I want to do…I need to control my own life, I’m sorry.”
He stared at the floor, ashamed of what he told them, it was Tsuyu who hugged him that broke the silence
“Don’t you ever apologize for what you want. *Ribbit* I…know things haven’t been kind to you for years, and if this is what you want…I’ll support you all the way.” She kissed him on the cheek
“As so will I.” Tenya said
“With myself included.” Momo said with a smile
“Me too.” Ochako added “You’re not alone with this Shoto, we have your back no matter what.”
“…thank you.” He smiled
Third Memory: Maternity leave Part three
The house was almost finished, most of the contractors they’ve hired, it would only be a matter of weeks before she would call it her new home. Being grateful for what everyone was doing for her, she decided to go out to Tokyo with her mother to find something she could get for everyone that chipped in on the housing project. While her mother went to a certain store for a moment, ochako sat down on the bench outside, waiting for her return.
She was checking up on her social media, only for a shadow to block her view, looking up she was shocked to see the person standing there.
“Bakugou?”
“It’s been a while.” He said while looking down at her, more specially towards her stomach “Guess they were right about what you’re doing nowadays.”
She moved over for a bit, giving him a place to sit
“So. How did he take it?”
“Fine.” She responded
“That’s good.” He said
The two sat in awkward silence until Ochako gave up
“Look if you’re gonna say it, then just say it.”
“What the hell are you talking about?”
“That this who pregnancy is a terrible idea and we’re both idiots for allowing this because you’re so smart blah, blah blah.” Ochako said in a mocking tone “Just try to keep your voice down, we’re in public.”
“…I wasn’t gonna say that..nor scream at you.”
“Of course you weren’t.”
“No I’m serious. Look..I know I don’t have a right to tell you two what you should do with your lives-“
“No shit.”
“…but do you guys have a backup plan when shit hits the fan?”
“Well…if something happens to us, our child will stay with my parents?”
“And if something happens to them?”
“Then they’ll stay with Tsuyu and Shoto.” He gave her a confused look “It’s a long story, you might want to ask them yourself.”
“I’ll keep that in mind. Anyways, what if something happens to the kid? You know that it’s easy to manipulate anyone if you take their kid.”
“I think you would know what would happen if anything happens to our child.”
“Then leave some room for me, I want a piece of that when it comes.”
“I’m surprised, you wanting to be involved in our lives after leaving everything for America.”
“…I won’t lie, I know I just went up and left without any proper goodbyes but I..feel like I didn’t deserve to be around any of you..”
“And why would that be?”
“Because I’m a piece of shit.”
“That’s just the start.” She gave him a smug look while he was starting to get annoyed “But that still doesn’t make you leaving all of us without any notice a good thing. Hell it’s kind of hypocritical of you since you threw a fit when Deku left us.”
“I know! I know okay God damn it! I just…when we’ve graduated, I felt like I didn’t belong here..to be called a hero when all I did was hurting others and acting like a bastard…all the while he was out there doing what a real hero would do…” He got up “While I became the infamous Dynamight, being praised for beating up villains, getting attention for what I can do with my quirk, he’s out there being targeted by the HSPC and other heroes just because he won’t give up! What kind of hero am I? Huh?”
“…You really want my opinion?”
“YES!”
“…alright, you’re right. You’re a fucking asshole.” She told him directly “You’re a selfish, egotistical, abusive piece of shit who should never been a hero in the first place.” She kept going as he stood there, listening to what she was saying “And you’re right, you don’t deserve those things all the while the person you’ve basically abused for his entire life suffers more while keeping his head down…but right now you need to pull more of your weight in this field.”
He gave her a confused look
“Right now, crime is rising up more and more, and heroes are leaving more and more. And right now we need all the help we can get.”
She stood up “If you wanna be a better person, stop acting like a child and act like the person you want to be. Because with this kid on the way, we need all the heroes we could get before things get worse again.” She spotted her mother leaving the store “Talk to the others, please.”
With that, she took her leave as he sat back down thinking on what she told him
“Who was that sweetheart?” Her mother asked her while helping putting some of their things into the car
“That was Bakugou.”
“You mean the jackass who bullied Izuku.”
“Yep.”
“He didn’t look happy to see you.”
“It’s complicated right now mom.” Ochako said while looking out the window “I just don’t know what’s gotten into people lately..sometimes it feels like they’re trying to give up despite having it much easier than deku.”
Her mother was about to say something but was stopped when Ochako phone was ringing, said girl answered the call
“Hello? Oh All might, how’s it….what?” Ochako’s expression turned grim “Mom change of plans!”
“What’s wrong?”
“We have to get to the hospital, quickly!”
“Why? What happened?”
“It’s Eraserhead, someone attacked him!”
- Musutafu General Hospital -
Ochako and her mother rushed their way to the ward where Eraserhead was held as they saw both All might and Detective Naomasa Tsukauchi standing outside of the room.
“Young Uraraka.” All might spoke while ochako stopped her pace to catch her breath
“All might, what happened to him?”
“For what we’ve gathered, he was attacked last night.” The detective spoke “One of his neighbours told us that it happened after two in the morning when he hear something going on in the next building. From what they’ve heard it sounded like Aizawa was fighting off a nomu.”
“A nomu? But that can’t be possible…I thought they were killed off after the war?” Ochako asked
“While that may be true, we can’t say for sure that we’ve killed all of them off so easily.” They stopped once they heard a groan coming from the room, going inside they’ve witnessed Aizawa struggling to get up
“Aizawa stop! You’re in no condition to get up.” All might stated
“You don’t think I know that you oaf.” He replied while lying down
“Seems like somethings haven’t changed.” Ochako commented which caused Aizawa to roll his eyes
“What’re you all doing here anyways?”
“When Naomasa heard what happened to you from the recent reports, he contacted me and we came over as soon as we could.” All might stated
“Aizawa, do you remember what happened to you last night? I know you’re in a lot of pain but we need to know who attacked you.” Naomasa asked him
“Alright, alright. It’s a little fuzzy but it was twelve before two someone knocked on my door. Someone wanted to talk to me about….midoriya..” He spoke while everyone was worried “He wanted to know about him, kept asking me for anything but I kept refusing. I tried to tell him to get lost but instead he forced himself into my home and took some needles filled with blood, then he changed..”
“What do you mean?” Naomasa asked?
“He changed into this massive beast, it must’ve been his quirk as it looked like he had multiple quirks, I couldn’t even use mine to stop him from beating the shit out of me.”
“Did he mention who he was?” Naomasa asked
“No..but he said something before leaving me to bleed to death…Dile al heroe que su proximo desafio lo esta esperando.”
“…wait, that was Spanish…oh god..” Naomasa knew what that meant
“What’s wrong?” Ochako asked the detective
“I’ll you two at the station, but for now I’ll get some of my guys to watch over you Aizawa.” The three were about to leave before Aizawa rose up from his bed
“Before you go, Ochako we need to discuss something. Alone.” The man said as both All-might and Naomasa looked at her with a worried look but she gave them a nod to go on without her, leaving the two in the room.
“What is it?” She asked
“Before I can tell you this…congrats I guess.” He pointed towards her stomach “I’ve heard some things about your pregnancy.”
“…just tell me what you want, I don’t have all day.”
“Right to the point *sigh* before I was attacked I was assigned to to a case from a local breakout from a mental facility.”
“What happened?”
“…she broke out Ochako, Himiko escaped.”
“W-what?” Ochako asked, having dread creeping up on her while remembering the last the she encountered her “How?”
“From what I’ve heard, someone broke her out. I can’t say for certain but it could be the man who’d attacked me, considering I was the hero who was assigned to find her he could be using her to find Midoriya..”
“Shit.”
“Ochako…I know I don’t have any right to say this..but you need to stay away from him for the sake of the child.”
“You don’t think I already know that!”
“I’m saying that because now we have both a psychotic killer and a professional hitman that will use you as a barging chip to kill him.”
“I know alright! But-“
“If they find out anything about you, it could lead to you and your Childs death. Do you really think that wouldn’t effect him?”
“…you still can’t trust us after all these years?” She asked with a annoyed tone
“I’m just looking out for you two.”
“Thanks, but I’m good on my own.” She took her leave
“Just…be careful alright, the whole country is becoming more dangerous with heroes leaving by the dozen.”
“I’m fine.” She slammed the door and walked down the hallway with haste, only to slow down when she realizes she was lost, looking up she saw she was almost at the maternity ward.
Taking a detour she went towards where the glass was showing the newborns in the single room, taking a moment to look at the innocent newborns as they sleep without a care in the world.
She held onto her stomach for a moment, hoping this would be the same for her child.
Aizawa is right despite being a bastard, with all that’s going on, she has to be more careful now than ever.
End of Part three
