"Suddenly, I'm off my axis again"

Summary:

Her voice had Cabby spiraling in such a wonderful haze, buzzing warmly around in her head. She had her eyes set on this human for a long time, watching her work be admired from afar, and yet building up the courage to finally see her face to face was one of the best decisions she has made in a long time.

Or; I got attached to space lesbians... Long live celestial yuri
Based on "When The Stars Align" By thatlittlecolor !!

Title from "Phantom Limb" by Safari Room. Not directly associated with the fic, the song just feels very Cabby to me in general though (also I was listening to it on repeat all day whoops)

Notes:

Hi hi hi Of course the stargender mfer plunged it's greasy little rat hands into someone else's space-themed AU.... /lh
Throwing out Cabbyfic after Cabbyfic to the masses like feeding ducks handfuls of frozen peas, and I'm no longer apologizing for it.

Grey! You're amazing!! Can't wait to see what you do with this AU!! Love your writing and I already told you so directly but now I'm like... Gifting a work and all, so I'm saying it again. Cover my bases before I forget and such. Also, let me know if you ever have a concept of a design in mind, I am sitting patiently wanting to draw fanart of Celestial Cabby...

Anyways! Back to your regularly scheduled beginning notes "Enjoy"
Enjoy!!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Mind reeling, the cosmos swirling around her, Cabby still held the soft grin on her face. Humans were so… Peculiar. Strange and odd, and other synonymous words just to explain the complete difference between her and the beings that pretend they own the planet.

“Cabby.” Her mind replayed, and gosh, Test Tube's voice was so scratchy, but in an amazing and unique way. Dare she say… Beautiful. Her voice had Cabby spiraling in such a wonderful haze, buzzing warmly around in her head. She had her eyes set on this human for a long time, watching her work be admired from afar, and yet building up the courage to finally see her face to face was one of the best decisions she has made in a long time.

This bubbling feeling in her chest warranted another handful of stray stars, Cabby supposes. It gives her the reminder of what happened, being able to gaze upon the fiery plasma and recalling each event that has brought upon these twinkling gemstones of the universe. Each string had their own story, their own memories attached, though the pure devotion towards them from a silent observer has brought upon newer ones, made from the boiling feeling that came with meeting her.

It isn't often she actually messes with the placement of the stars, only creating and destroying. She keeps the same cycle going, it is her grander purpose in the cold vast celestial grounds. Still, she had handpicked the stars she shuffled around for Test Tube. Cabby had become awfully fond of her.

So, in the end, the new strewn out system of stars was in some way dedicated to Test Tube. In the back of her mind, she wonders if the scientist could ever see them, and if she could, would she know the meaning behind them? Does Cabby even know the full meaning behind them? Does it even matter in the grand scheme of things?

Cabby tries to not dwell on those thoughts, though they linger anyway. Was she too in over her head already…?

Notes:

My only regret is not writing even more, but I am also afraid of butchering any characterization purely because we as readers barely know anything yet lmao

I love space I love the stars they're amazing I get to see the big dipper and little dipper almost every night during the wintertime but I don't follow the constellations closely anyway, nor the science behind the stars often either (searched up way too much about stars for this to be someone who based a lot of themself off of a space theme for many years before forcing themself to mask-). I just like the way they look... Casual stargazer here. The world is beautiful and yet the vast beyond is even more so.... Appreciate the beauty in nature whenever you can. Love the world. Other peaceful sentiments that have failed us anyway. Also partly unrelated but associating windchimes with stars is the greatest thing we've done. Yes, the stars DO look like they sound like that. Jingly space gems of plasma that would incinerate me...
