In the shadows, there is a man.
At least, Hermione thinks it's a man. Her dreams are never clear, often filling her with pretty promises and leaving her bereft upon waking. The moment she opens her eyes, they dissipate, like the breaking of ocean waves upon the rocks. They whisper memories of the past to her, of times when there was life and smiles and laughter. Times when Hermione greeted each day with enthusiasm, rather than desperately running as deeply into sleep as a Dreamless Sleep will allow.
She thinks he isn't real.
Until the day she meets a vampire.
