“I gracefully decline.”
And at that, he thought that would be the end of things, but—
Things were never that simple.
“So…”
Regulus flinched, feeling an arm wrap around his shoulders, recognizing the sound of Sirius ’ voice.
“What’s the reason for declining a date with the Parkinson girl?”
Regulus rolled his eyes and attempted to lift Sirius ’ arm away, making his escape.
Sirius, however, pulled him back. “Come now. She’s exactly the kind of person they’d want.”
“If you think she’s so great, go date her yourself,” Regulus said. “Oh. Wait. You left.
Sirius poked his cheek. “You’re right. I left. So I don’t have to worry about that crap. You thought?”
“Papa and maman will choose,” Regulus said.
“You sure it’s not because of some other reason?” Sirius asked.
“You mean because she’s an idiot, and I’m hoping she’s not the one they pick?” He felt Sirius stiffen, as if surprised. “What?”
“Are you even into girls?”
Regulus frowned, then after a bit. “What does that even mean?”
“You know, it means are you into girls? Or are you into…”
“Your vernacular is confusing.”
“You’re confusing.”
Regulus shoved his hand away. “If you’re done…”
Sirius pulled him back. “If you’re not into girls, then you must be into, well…”
“Please explain this to me.”
“You know. James is into Lily,” Remus offered up.
Regulus ’ eyes blinked. “Oh. I’m not into…”
“I thought so!”
“…anybody.” Regulus frowned, then turned, finger-pointing. “Hold on. If I wasn’t into a girl, what would I be into?”
“Uh…” Sirius stared at him, a massive grin on his face, indicating.
“Sirius Orion Black,” Regulus said, folding his arms across his chest. “Your implication there.”
“Yes, well…”
“He didn’t expect…”
“What? Beasts. Dogs?” Regulus titled his head. “Well, I do like animals, particularly dogs.”
Sirius choked, his face turning bright red while Regulus stared.
Then he snapped, shaking his finger at his older brother. “Hey! Not like that! Not like Potter likes…” He sighed. “I don’t like animals, any animal like that.”
“You deserved that,” James Potter said.
“Well, I wasn’t expecting him to,” Sirius said. “And I didn’t mean that Black!”
“Then what did you…”
“Perhaps ignoring Sirius is best?” Remus offered. “I mean…”
“Boys,” Peter blurted out.
“Huh?” Regulus’ eyes narrowed. Then, “You’re weird, Sirius. Maybe weirder than me?”
“That…” Sirius sighed. “Never mind. You’re hopeless, you know.”
Regulus glared. “I don’t need you to remind me of that.”
