Chapter Text
Nightmare was sitting in a tree on top of a hill looking over the vast city as the sun was setting. The prince of negativity was deep in thought as he absent mindlessly toyed with his weapon, the large blue crescent moon glowing softly with power. Lately he had been plagued by...dreams? Nightmares? Or were they visions? Either way he wasn't getting much sleep because of the disturbing images his mind conjured. Red and blue eyes, white bone hands with a blood red scarf in a void of black. Nightmare pulls his hood over his head and curls more into himself, holding his weapon tight against his chest. Sometimes he felt eyes on him and it creeped him out to no end.
Just yesterday he kept losing at a video game he was really good at because he was so distracted and on edge. He knew it wasn't his heat - that had passed a week ago - and it worried his two best friends greatly. Well, best friends isn't the right term.
They were his family.
Cross and Error were able to protect him during his heats without Cross being affected because of a pact. That and Cross harbored no romantic feelings for the prince even if they playfully teased each other. And Error was a beta so he was unaffected by heats. Lucky bastard.
My queen...
The guardian and prince of negativity jumps and quickly looks around for who spoke but he couldn't find anyone. "Great," he mutters. "I'm losing my damn mind..." Nightmare hops from the tree, dismissing his weapon in blue particles before he started making his way back to the hideout.
Soon, I will have you...
Nightmare flinches and speeds up his walk. Words like that were normal lately. He'd hear them when he was by himself and sometimes he thought that he was finally losing his mind. Being chased by his brother all the time probably left some weird side effect on his brain. Before the sun completely sets he makes it back to his home, the one he shared with Cross and Error.
"Welcome back Night!" Error said cheerfully from the couch. "What the frick took you so long?" Cross asked, looking away from the game he and Error were playing. He may sound annoyed but Nightmare could hear the concern. "I was just sitting in the tree nearby, Cross." The prince replied with an eye roll.
The monochrome skeleton sighs at this. "Sorry, I just worry about you being by yourself. What with the JR still hunting us down and all..."
"I wasn't that far from here!" Nightmare exclaimed.
