One of her reasons for not wanting to get married was that she wasn’t a wife type. Couldn’t cook, couldn’t clean– and he told her that if he wanted a good wife, he’d find someone else. Point being that he didn’t want anyone else, and that he could do all of that. Of course, over the years, she’s taken it upon herself to learn, and to do these things, but he liked being able to take care of their kids and her. He didn’t want to lose that just because she found herself wanting to cement into a stereotype.
Her other reason was more founded. Worried over him actually being present, worried over his past. He made them a home, made a plan to get out, and for the last few years, it’s worked. He’s not a man who bets against the odds, but he was pretty damn lucky to have this. Without interruption, without anything catching up to him.
He makes sure to knock on the wooden door frame as he passes through it, just for good measure and superstition’s sake.
