Post-war Magical Britain has seen a marked increase in reported sexual fluidity, particularly amongst individuals with direct involvement in the Second Wizarding War. Preliminary findings were promising but ultimately invalidated due to the lead researcher's personal involvement with the primary study cohort. Subsequent double-blind studies were conducted with an expanded pool of male, female, and non-binary participants, the results of which were broadly consistent with initial observations.
Analysis suggests that the suppression of normative adolescent behaviors, including sexual experimentation, due to prolonged exposure to conflict, trauma, and survival stress resulted in a significant delay in identity formation. Upon cessation of hostilities, subjects demonstrated markedly expanded freedoms and open-minded attitudes toward sexual exploration, producing rates of sexual fluidity substantially higher than those observed in age-matched controls with no wartime exposure.
The authors conclude that what was lost to war was, in several cases, recovered in other ways entirely. -

The problem with straying from their usual and allowed places to meet is that Ilya knows it's a hit or miss. By now and after all this time, he can only partially ascertain the nooks and crannies of Hollander's absurdly intricate mind. He likes routine and order; he doesn't like when they change the rules, especially if it comes unannounced, or from Ilya. Or both. He has no issues breaking his own, as long as it works for him. But he doesn't do that a lot, either.
Only when Ilya gets him good, desperate, when he kisses him as if the fucking world would end if they don't, does Hollander forget about rules.
What should have been a simple encounter with Hollander ends up being the moment where Ilya has to accept uncomfortable truths about his own desires and needs.
Might take him a while, though.
