Work Text:
Finally outside the lab in the fresh air, Chim and Hen being looked over by medics in isolation, Buck took his mask off with a sigh of relief.
Bobby clapped a hand on his shoulder, his mask off now too. “You did good work today, kid.”
Buck swallowed. “Thanks, Cap.”
In truth it was one of the worst shifts Buck had had in ages. Nearly his whole family stuck behind immovable glass doors with a deadly virus, while he was on the other side. He’d felt so helpless. And then he’d felt immense guilt, both for not being with them, and for being glad for the first time that Eddie was in fucking Texas.
That was not something he was going to think about too closely for now.
"You still coming over for dinner tomorrow right?" Bobby asked.
"Wouldn't miss it."
"Great," Bobby smiled as Athena approached. "Now if you'll excuse me..."
Buck smiled as Bobby and Athena embraced.
Later, as everyone was being cleared by the medics, Buck’s phone vibrated. He knew who it was without looking. Who else could it be, everyone else was here and Chim was clearly on the phone with Maddie.
“Um, hey Eddie,” he answered roughly.
“Y’all are involved in this lab explosion aren’t you.” It wasn’t even stated as a question. “The military and FBI presence in LA is all over the news, but they aren’t giving any details. Is everyone okay?”
Buck smiled. “Yeah, everyone is okay.”
