Chapter Text
The Magic User
If anyone were to ask, Neal Caffrey would assure them it was all Peter’s fault. After all, Neal told him to be cautious. He told him magic was dangerous. But did the man listen??? No! And now they were all stuck in the past. Peter, Neal, Diana, and Jones.
Neal had a secret identity to protect! And damn if he wouldn’t try to keep it!
That said… maybe they wouldn’t recognize a child Dick Grayson. Where was he at this point anyways?
“Okay.” Peter said, calling his team together. “So, I realize this is… not ideal. But we can figure this out. We just need to find ourselves. And once we have everyone, we should just bounce back.”
Neal rolled his eyes. As if magic was that simple to reverse.
“Gather round.” Peter plopped a newspaper on the table in between them. They were in an abandoned apartment on the quiet side of town. If Neal remembered correctly, this building was destroyed by an alien attack in fall of 2016. They finally got rid of the last bit in 2017 and rebuilt the area. “The date’s April 14, 2014. Think back. Where were you at this point in time?”
Huh. April 14. Wait, 2014? Wasn’t that? No, it couldn’t be… But if it was???
“April 2014… I was working out of DC in 2014.” Diana said. “Didn’t move to NYC until 2018.”
“I was still at Harvard.” Jones offered. “Should be graduating at the end of the month.”
“Right…” Peter said. “I had just moved in with El.”
“So, we can probably go to your place then?” Neal suggested. “Explain everything to younger you and El?”
Peter let loose a deep sigh, but agreed.
“Wait. Neal. Where were you in April 2014?” Diana asked.
“Well…” Neal cast his mind back. He left Earth in late January. Which planet did they go to first? Wait no. He couldn’t tell them that. But April 2014… he could save Jason! “I can’t remember for sure, but I know I ended up in Ethiopia at some point this month.” Jason died on April 27th. Dick had to get to him before that. “I think I was in Gotham before?”
“Gotham?” Jones said. “Gotham City?” Dick shifted uncomfortably.
“That would be the one.”
“Shit, Neal.” Peter groaned. “How hard is it going to be to track you down?”
Dick thought for a moment. He knew where Jason died. Maybe he could track down his other baby siblings too? Early rescues? Dick hummed and pulled a small notepad out from his pocket along with a pen. He started scribbling what he could remember of this time in his siblings’ lives in vague terms.
“Well, that’s not promising.” Diana said.
Explaining the situation to the Younger Burkes took a while but they eventually convinced them. Once they were convinced, the White Collar team took over the living room and guest room for their planning.
“So Peter, check.” Jones said. “I’m at Harvard, so we just need to grab me before graduation. That leaves Diana and Neal.”
“I can’t remember where I was living at this point in time, but I was working in DC near Quantico.” Diana said.
Dick was organizing his notes and ignoring them. “Neal.” Peter said. He snapped his fingers. “Neal, are you with us?” Dick looked up.
“Oh. Yeah. Baby Peter’s in the kitchen. Baby Jones in Massachusetts. Baby Diana in DC. Got it!”
“Yes. So now we need baby Neal.” Peter said, a hint of sarcasm creeping in.
“Right… baby Neal.” Dick mused. He glanced through his sibling notes. Steph and Tim would be easy to track down, as they were in Gotham. If he could get Jason to safety, he could shift the responsibility to him. He knew where Jason would be, vaguely. And there was a couple weeks to lay that that groundwork and narrow the location down…. Damian would be near impossible to get to without prep work and Duke was safe for the next few years. That left Cass.
“I know vaguely where I’m going to be in a couple weeks. But I think I can narrow down where I’ll be in the meantime. Can you give me computer access?”
Peter narrowed his eyes, but gave a short nod.
“Awesome.” Dick plastered on his best ‘Trust Me’ grin and patted the man’s arm. “We’ve got this.”
