Before moving to Heatherfield, Will Vandom didn't do hugs. Sure, she hugged her mom, but that was rare. Once she moved, and found Matt Olsen, Will loved hugging him, constantly.
Will hugs Matt, and hears an enemy voice from him: he's…no, he's Shagon now, and Shagon wants to torment Will and feed on her hatred, but she can't feel any hatred right now. Just overwhelming horror: is that Matt's body, or is Matt being held and tortured somewhere and Shagon just took in his form?
Eventually, ages later, Matt is rescued and Will hugs him from overwhelming relief.
The next day, Will goes to hug him…and freezes. She can't lift her arms to hug her boyfriend, and she…passes it by, patting him on the shoulder instead. She'll try again tomorrow, when she's not so tired.
Matt sneaks up behind her and whirls her around, pulling her close and…he's trapping her arms beside her as his reach around her, and she…her breathing is quickening, she can't get enough air, and it's not Matt's voice in her ear (it is, but it isn't, cuz it's not him, but it is him) and she barely hears Matt speak to her.
Will pushes him off, turns, and runs away, just keeps running and running and running until she drops, and Matt is there, beside her, and he sits and waits as she gathers the courage, the words, to explain.
