Chapter Text
An hour had passed since all the E class students received their Pokémon. They were now standing on the sports field outside the building, all wearing their physical education uniforms. The uniforms consisted of blue and light blue sweaters. The boys were wearing blue pants, while the girls were wearing blue shorts with black leggings.
"Listen up!" A tall young man wearing a black business suit, white shirt, and black tie began to speak. He had spiky black hair and piercing dark eyes. His name is Karasuma Tadaomi, and he is a physical education teacher.
"Now that everyone has received their starters, today's class will focus on training your Pokémon through battles." Karasuma said.
The students were excited as they watched their Pokémon. After all, they had been waiting for the day they could fight their first battles.
"Heh, it's finally time for this." Terasaka felt slightly excited.
"I can't wait to see how Cacnea battles against other Pokémon." He grinned.
"Timburr/Cacnea!" Both Pokémon were very excited to fight their first battles.
"Vee." Eevee's face lit up when she heard there were going to be battles.
Chiba noticed the excitement on his Eevee's face, "I see you're really eager to fight, right?"
"Vee!" Eevee nodded happily as she wanted to show off her fighting skills to her trainer and siblings.
There were two battlefields inside the track field where students could fight their Pokémon battles.
Okajima couldn't help feeling excited, "I can't wait to get started!"
"Toed!" Toedscool agreed with his trainer.
"Hang on!" Karasuma spoke, "I know everyone wants to use both fields, but I've decided that only one will be used today."
"Huh?" This caused his students to feel disappointed.
"Just one?"
"That's because I want to evaluate each of you and see that you're fighting well thanks to the lessons we're teaching you." Karasuma said this with his arms crossed, "Also, I want everyone to closely observe and evaluate the strategies their classmates are using in their battles. This way, you'll know what to do when it's your turn." The students now understood a little more about this decision.
"So, will we have to wait until they have both finished fighting?" Mimura said, looking disappointed, "Oh, man."
"Lar." Larvitar lowered his head, feeling a little sad.
Sugaya sighed, "This is going to take forever."
"Don't be disappointed. To avoid taking too long, I've made another decision." Karasuma exclaimed, drawing his students' attention, "I will pair each of you with a partner so that you can both participate in a double battle."
"Double battle?" Isogai said, looking surprised, as did some of his classmates.
"As you know, there must always be four Pokémon on the field in this type of battle. Since they are teaming up with their other partner, this will be a two-on-two battle." Karasuma said, "You and your partner will work together to develop strategies for your Pokémon to work and attack your opponents' weak points."
"I see. In any case, these battles will cause our Pokémon to attack their opponents and protect their partners from attacks." Takebayashi commented as he pushed up his eyeglasses, "These types of battles are unpredictable because we don't know what strategy our opponents will use against us."
"Rotom!" Rotom said with an amused grin.
"If you're familiar with these battles, then you know that some Pokémon can use moves that attack opponents while giving their partner an advantage." Karasuma explained, "But remember that there are moves that harm not only your opponents but also your partner. Some moves that can harm everyone on the field are Surf or Explosion."
Terasaka and his group (except Hazama and Itona) tensed up when they heard the word 'Explosion.' They wouldn't want to remember an event from a few months ago in class that was specifically related to explosions.
Kayano turned to look at Nagisa, who was writing down every word his teacher said in his notebook. She couldn't help but smile at how excited he looked, while Froakie chuckled a little.
"I know this is very sudden, but I'd like to see how you fare in your first Pokémon battle as a team, given everything you've learned." Karasuma said.
Some students smiled, not worrying too much about the type of battle they would face.
"Well, that's fine with me. Also, it seems much more fun and interesting to see many of our Pokémon battle on the same field." Okano said with an excited smile.
"You're right." Kataoka smiled, agreeing with her friend.
"Good. Now that I've explained all this, let's get started." Karasuma looked at his students, "Isogai-kun, Maehara-kun, you two are going to face off against Nagisa-kun and Sugino-kun!"
Nagisa lowered his notebook, surprised to be mentioned, "Me?"
"Oh yeah, man! We'll be the first to have a Pokémon battle!" Maehara felt excited as he raised his fist.
Isogai smiled and bumped fist with his friend, "Yeah, Maehara, I'm really excited for this battle."
"Charca!" Charcadet smiled excitedly.
Although she didn't show it, Riolu was also excited for the opportunity to battle others Pokémon. The problem was that his trainer was an idiot womanizing, and she was embarrassed to have him as her trainer.
'Am I going to have my first Pokémon battle?' Nagisa was still processing the fact that they had chosen him first.
"Well, Nagisa-kun, it seems that Arceus' luck has chosen you to fight first." Karma said, smirking.
"I'm jealous. I would have liked to go first." Nakamura said as her Purrloin sighed a little disappointedly.
"I... really didn't expect to be chosen first." Nagisa said timidly, "I mean, I expected them to choose you guys over me, since I don't feel like I'm ready for this yet." He lowered his head, feeling a little sad.
"Come on, Nagisa, don't be like that. You're clearly excited because you're about to have your first Pokémon battle. Since I saw you taking notes with great interest on all the information our teachers have been giving us so that we can be good trainers. This is the perfect opportunity to put everything we've learned in this battle to use." Kayano encouraged him with a smile.
"B-But… I…" Nagisa didn't know what to say. Suddenly, he felt someone pat him on the back, so he turned around and looked at Sugino.
"Don't worry, Nagisa. Honestly, I'm also a little nervous about battling in front of everyone and making an embarrassing mistake. But there's a part of me that really wants to stay and fight so my Aipom and I can show our potential." Sugino smiled sincerely at his friend.
"Aipom!" Aipom smiled in agreement with Sugino.
Nagisa looked at him in surprise, "Sugino, Aipom."
"If I remember correctly, the day Yukimura-sensei made us do those battle simulations, you beat me thanks to your strategy. And to think I had the advantage in that battle and you defeated me with a critical hit. I'm still traumatized by that battle." Nakamura pretended to hold back the tears in her eyes. Nagisa stared at her in disbelief as Purrloin started laughing out loud at her trainer's antics.
"Don't be so negative and give your best in this battle, Nagisa." Nakamura encouraged him while winking at him.
Nagisa looked at her in surprise. Soon he felt someone touch his leg, and when he looked down, he saw that it was his Froakie.
"Froa! Froa! Froakie!" Froakie told his trainer not to be nervous because he was ready for the Pokémon battle.
Kayano chuckled. "See, even Froakie is ready to show you how good it is."
"Froakie!" He nodded and smiled at his trainer.
Nagisa began to smile when he saw the support from his friends and Froakie, "You're right, guys. If I sit idly by, I will never be able to show to others that we can be the best trainers in this school. So, I'm ready for my first Pokémon battle!" He said confidently, and his friends and Pokémon smiled proudly.
"That's the spirit, dude!" Sugino smiled, "Let's go to the field right now!"
"Yeah!" Nagisa nodded.
"Good luck, guys!" Kayano cheered them on.
"Chiko!" Chikorita would cheer them up too.
"Sure, thanks!" Nagisa thanked him as he headed toward the battlefield.
Isogai and Maehara were already on the field warming up for battle.
"Do your best, Charcadet, but don't overdo it." Isogai said to his Charcadet.
"Charca!" Charcadet nodded.
Maehara saw how well they seemed to get along, so he couldn't help but smile a little, knowing that his best friend is very good at communicating with others. He then turned to look at his Riolu, only to be disappointed that her back was to him, as he knew she was still trying to avoid making eye contact.
He would soon approach with his Riolu, "Hi, Riolu... Are you ready for your first battle?" He asked casually, smiling nervously.
"…" Riolu only gave him a brief, cold, unpleasant glance before looking away again.
'He really hates me.' Maehara had comical tears in his eyes.
Isogai and some of his classmates looked worried when they saw that Riolu didn't seem to want to get along with Maehara.
'I shouldn't have said that in front of his Riolu.' Okano felt guilty for ruining the relationship between Riolu and Maehara. Knowing that she was the one who told Riolu that his trainer was a womanizer during the presentation.
Before she or another classmate approached them, Maehara would let out a deep sigh, "Look, I know you're very disappointed to have ended up with a trainer like me. You probably had someone better and more disciplined in mind, like Isogai or Kataoka."
"…" Riolu remained silent and refused to look at him.
"I'm sorry, but I can't change it just because you don't like it. I love going out with girls because they're so cute that I can't resist asking them out!" He said proudly, "You should see how fantastic this is, and I assure you that you won't regret it!"
At that moment, Riolu just wanted to bang her head against the wall because she had to keep listening to the stupid things her trainer was saying.
"Well, what I mean is that you and I have something in common, and that is that our goal is to be the strongest here." Maehara scratched his cheek.
This caught Riolu's attention, and she turned to look at her trainer, "Rio?"
"Don't think I didn't notice how excited you seemed to fight when we came out here. And the truth is, I'm also really fascinated by Pokémon battles." He smiled excitedly, "My goal is to prove to others that I will be one of the best Pokémon trainers in this region and show them how amazing and strong I am. This way, I could become one of the best Pokémon Masters in the region and show everyone my awesome Pokémon." He chuckled softly.
"Olu." Riolu was surprised by how honest Maehara was.
"And to do that, I need your support to achieve this goal." He started petting Riolu's head. Surprisingly, Riolu didn't back off, "We may be very different, and you may not agree with my preferences at all. But what I'm sure about is that I want to get along with you and get to know you better. I want to know your preferences, respect your wishes, and above all, I want to be your friend because I really like you!"
Riolu was actually quite surprised by how kind Maehara was to her, seeing this new side of her trainer that she hadn't seen before.
"If you give me this opportunity, I promise we'll work hard to become the strongest in this region, starting right here in Kunugigaoka". He said with determination as he extended his hand towards Riolu, "What do you say, Riolu? Would you give me a chance to be your friend?" He smiled warmly at her.
Riolu couldn't help but smile broadly when she saw him behave like that. Maybe she disliked that Maehara was a womanizer and somewhat perverted. However, after seeing how sincere he was, she recognized that her trainer was a kind person who would help her achieve her goals.
"Riolu!" Riolu happily shook hands with her trainer.
Maehara smiled widely as he finally managed to get along with his Riolu, "Thank you so much, Riolu! I promise not to let you down!" He thanked, "So, are you ready for this battle?"
"Olu!" Riolu nodded determinedly as they both prepared for battle.
Isogai and his classmates smiled when they saw that Maehara and Riolu finally seemed to be getting along.
Okano felt happy, 'Idiot.'
Karasuma was going to be the referee, so he stood near the field, "Before we start this battle, I want to ask you something." He looked at the boys, "Do you know your Pokémon's moves?"
"…" The boys didn't say anything, since they didn't know what moves their Pokémon could use.
"Sorry, Karasuma-sensei, but I'm not sure what moves Charcardet knows how to use." Isogai said.
"I forgot to ask my Aipom before." Sugino said timidly.
"Same here." Maehara said.
"Me too." Nagisa said, feeling a little embarrassed.
"I see." Karasuma turned to the rest of the class, "Do the rest of you know your Pokémon's moves?"
"…" Like the boys, the rest of the class didn't know any of their Pokémon's moves.
"Hum… really no." Mimura said.
"I'm still getting to know my Eevee, so I haven't learned its moves yet." Hayami said.
"I think Growlithe knows how to use Ember, but I'm not so sure." Kimura looked at his Pokémon.
Karasuma sighed, "At this point, this should have already been explained to them. Okay, I'll quickly explain how to find out about your Pokémon's moves and stats." Karasuma said, "Isogai-kun, could you lend me your Pokédex for a moment?"
"Yes, no problem." Isogai said as he lent his Pokédex to his teacher.
"Listen, whenever you want to know your Pokémon's moves, you can always check your Pokédex."
"Our Pokédex?" Muramatsu said.
"In addition to being an encyclopedia and a map, it also serves to learn the data of your Pokémon." He began to explain, holding up the Pokédex, "The moment you catch or receive a Pokémon, the Pokédex will automatically record all of its data, which only you can see. I mean, they aren't forbidden from showing it to others, but I wish they wouldn't. If they knew their Pokémon's information, they would be at a disadvantage."
"Pfft, like we'd ever do something like that." Terasaka scoffed.
"Now, to see it, simply scan your Pokémon using your Pokédex." Karasuma used the Pokédex to scan Charcadet and view its data.
The students imitated their teacher and used their Pokédex to scan.
"Amazing Toedscool, you're so fast!" Okajima was amazed.
"Toed!" Toedscool smiled proudly.
"You can use Dazzling Gleam, Cutie-chan!" Kurahashi looked happily at Cutiefly.
"Cuteeee!" Cutiefly buzzed happily.
Nagisa was impressed by Froakie's stats, 'Wow. It seems very good.'
"Now that I've explained everything, let's start this battle." Karasuma announced.
"Yeah!" The boys nodded.
"May the best team win." Isogai said kindly to Nagisa and Sugino.
"There won't be any regrets, right?" Maehara grinned.
"Not at all. I just want this battle to be really fun." Nagisa said, smiling kindly at them.
"That's right. Although we won't give up easily." Sugino stated determinedly.
"Aipom/Froakie!" Froakie and Aipom stated.
"We'll see." Maehara smirked.
"Riolu/Charca!" Riolu and Charcadet stated.
'I'm finally going to have my first Pokémon battle.' Nagisa thought as he watched Karasuma flip a coin to decide who would go first. Isogai chose heads and Sugino chose tails, 'Our teachers have taught us everything we need to know to become the best Pokémon trainers.'
Karasuma quickly caught the coin before it fell, "Isogai-kun, Maehara-kun, you're going to begin the battle, is that clear?"
"Yeah!" The boys mentioned nodded in agreement.
'Our Pokémon may not be like those in other classes, and they will probably defeat us. But what they don't know is that our Pokémon will become very strong thanks to the training they receive from our teachers and us. After all, we're not ordinary students, and we're not going to become the typical trainers we see on TV every day.'
Standing next to her classmates, Fuwa couldn't help but feel excited about the upcoming battle, 'This is going to be so exciting!' In her mind, she would remember that mysterious boy again, who was now accompanied by a Pokémon. Then she looked at her Bulbasaur, which she was holding in her arms, and smiled, 'I hope Bulbasaur becomes very strong.'
"Are you ready?!" Karasuma shouted as the boys got into position to start the battle.
Nagisa stared intently at the field, 'Because we are…'
For some strange reason, near the field there was a small shooting range with pellets scattered on the ground and... guns?!
'Assassins.'
"Let's battle begin!" Karasuma declared as he quickly lowered his hand.
"Ready, Isogai?!" Maehara said.
"Ready!" Isogai said, "Charcadet use Ember on Aipom!" He ordered.
"Riolu use Quick Attack against Froakie!" Maehara ordered.
"Charca/Olu!" Both Pokémon obeyed and prepared to attack Aipom and Froakie with their moves.
Riolu started running toward Froakie, and Charcadet created a small ball of fire with his hands.
"Froakie use Growl!" Nagisa quickly ordered.
"Kie." Froakie nodded, "FROAAAAAAA!" Froakie lets out a loud cry, stunning its opponents and causing them to reduce their attack level. This caused Riolu to lose its balance and become unable to attack.
Due to Froakie's loud cry, everyone present had to cover their ears.
"Aghh, my ears!" Yoshida shouted.
"I never thought a Pokémon like Froakie would cry like that." Hazama said as she continued to cover her ears.
"It's so annoying!" Terasaka yelled.
Despite Froakie's loud cry, Charcadet still launched the fireball at Aipom.
"Aiii!" Aipom cried out after being attacked by Charcadet.
"Aipom!" Sugino shouted as he continued to cover his ears.
"Good job, Charcadet!" Isogai congratulated him.
"Charca!" Charcadet felt happy.
Froakie stopped crying, allowing everyone to finally lower their hands.
"Finally, he stopped." Kimura sighed with relief.
"Yeah." Sugaya agreed.
Sugino looked at his Aipom, "Are you okay, buddy?!"
Aipom quickly got up from the ground because she wasn't going to give up easily, "Aipom!"
"All right, let's give it our all!" Sugino smiled.
"Aipom!" Aipom nodded.
Nagisa smiled and turned to his Froakie, "Froakie use Bubble!" Froakie released several bubbles from his mouth, preventing both Pokémon from dodging them in time. This caused damage to both, especially Charcadet, who was the most affected by the attack.
"Darn, I forgot that Charcadet is weak against water-type moves!" Isogai said.
"I've got your back, man! Riolu use Counter!" Maehara ordered.
"Olu!" Soon, Riolu's body would begin to be covered in orange energy.
"What's she doing?" Yada asked since she didn't understand what Riolu was trying to do.
"It looks like she's preparing to try to counterattack." Okano responded, feeling just as amazed as her Mienfoo.
Although Nagisa was impressed by Riolu's glow, he wasn't going to sit idly by, "Use Water Gun!"
"Froa!" Froakie released a powerful stream of water toward Riolu.
"That shot looks really powerful!" Kataoka shouted, slightly surprised.
Karma also seemed a little impressed, 'It was.'
"Olu!" Riolu quickly jumped up and split the stream of water that Froakie had launched in two with her fist.
"It split Froakie's attack in two!" Nakamura said, surprised.
"Oh, no!" Kayano was shocked.
Riolu approached Froakie and launched a strong kick with its Counter move.
"Froaaaa!" Froakie cried out in pain as it staggered backward from the hard hit it had just received.
"Now that was a good hit!" Okajima said in surprise.
"Yeah, but…" Mimura watched as Froakie started breathing heavily, "It's amazing that Froakie was able to withstand that strong kick he just received."
'I didn't expect Maehara-kun's Riolu to be so strong.' Nagisa felt intrigued as he looked at his Pokémon, 'It's good that Froakie was able to withstand this hit. I hope he can keep up with the battle.' He then exchanged glances with Sugino, and they both nodded, 'Even so, we won't give up easily.'
"Aipom use Sand Attack on Charcadet!" Sugino ordered.
"Aipom!" Aipom cried as she quickly dug with her hands and threw sand at Charcadet with her tail.
"Charca!" Charcadet cried, closing his eyes because of the sand that had entered him.
"Charcadet!" Isogai shouted.
Sugino would seize the moment to attack, "Use Scratch!"
Aipom's hands began to glow white, and then she scratched hard at Charcadet, causing him to back away.
"Hold on, buddy!" Isogai shouted.
"C-Charca!" Charcadet would not give up easily.
"Well done, buddy!" Sugino congratulated him.
"Ai!" Aipom smiled widely at his trainer's praise.
'It's impressive how quickly they learned to use their strategies effectively.' Karasuma watched the battle, 'After all, they will continue to improve, just like their Pokémon. As long as we continue teaching them, they will become very good assassins.'
The class was completely fascinated by the Pokémon battle their classmates were having, so several students began cheering with excitement.
"This battle is so cool!"
"Your Pokémon are very good!"
"Don't give up, guys!"
The boys smiled in response to the loud cheers of their classmates.
'I'm glad they're enjoying it.' Sugino smiled.
"You can do it, Nagisa-kun, Sugino-kun!" Kanzaki cheered them on happily.
Sugino started to blush as he listened to Kanzaki cheer him on, 'Kanzaki-san is cheering us on!'
"Sugino!" Nagisa called out.
"Huh?" After Sugino recovered, he saw that his Aipom had been attacked by Riolu, "Aipom!"
"Don't fall asleep, Sugino! If you get lost in your thoughts, this battle will become boring!" Maehara joked.
"Damn, you're right. I shouldn't get distracted." Sugino scolded himself.
"Don't worry, Sugino, I've got your back!" Nagisa said, "Use Bubble again!"
"Charcadet use Astonish!" Isogai ordered quickly.
A red aura enveloped Charcadet's body, and the face of a ghost appeared, grinning sinisterly.
"That doesn't look like a fire-type move!" Terasaka exclaimed in surprise.
"Because it isn't. It is evident that this is a ghost-type move." Hazama commented.
"Wait, can a Pokémon like Charcadet learn a move that isn't its type?" Muramatsu asked.
"They can do it, as long as they are compatible and know how to use it. After all, our Pokémon can learn moves that aren't specific to their type. This gives us an interesting advantage during battles." Hazama explained.
"I see." Terasaka now understood.
"That's something even a kindergartener knows, Terasaka. But anyway, your Magikarp brain doesn't allow you to understand much about the Pokémon world." Itona said indifferently.
"Shut it!" Terasaka snapped.
Charcadet would launch the ghostly figure toward Froakie, hitting him hard and preventing him from launching his bubbles.
"Froaaa!" Froakie would fall to the ground, feeling more and more tired.
"Wow, Charcadet is really great!" Yada was amazed.
"I know, right? Isogai-chan and Charca-chan seem to get along very well, as they really work as a team." Kurahashi said excitedly.
"They are. Isogai-kun will always find a way to get along with others and quickly gain their trust. It's no wonder that Charcadet quickly became attached to him." Kataoka remarked with a smile.
"He's definitely our leader! He really is an Ikemen!" Okano smiled, her cheeks blushing slightly in admiration for the male representative.
'I didn't expect him to use that move.' Nagisa thought as he evaluated his opponent's Pokémon.
"Nagisa, I don't know what you're thinking, but we need to find a way to get their Pokémon to let their guard down. Then, we can coordinate an attack at the perfect moment." Sugino said to his friend.
"Yeah!" Nagisa nodded.
"We'd better not get distracted, Maehara." Isogai said, when he noticed that Nagisa and Sugino seemed to be planning something.
"I know." Maehara stated, as he also realized what they were doing. He looked at Riolu, "Riolu use Quick Attack on Froakie!"
"Charcadet use again Ember!" Isogai ordered.
"Charca/Olu!" Both Pokémon obeyed and prepared to attack.
"Now, Aipom, use Tail Whip!" Sugino ordered quickly.
"Ai!" Aipom cried as she jumped up quickly and lightly hit Charcadet and Riolu with her tail. This interrupted their attacks and made them lower their guard a little.
"Again?!" Maehara exclaimed in surprise.
'Now!' Nagisa seized the opportunity to attack, "Use Bubble one more time!"
"Froakie!" Froakie launched several more bubbles from his mouth at his opponents, causing damage.
"Alright, Nagisa, Froakie!" Kayano cheered excitedly.
"Chiko!" She also cheered, imitating her trainer.
"Wow, Nagisa is so lucky to have Froakie as a partner. It's pretty good and agile." Nakamura smiled, admiring Nagisa's Froakie.
"Yes, it even seemed like it had become stronger." Kayano said.
"And it's true; his moves became much more powerful than before." Karma said with his usual smirk.
"Eh?" His classmates looked at him, confused.
"As soon as Froakie began to tire, its ability activated, increasing its power when using certain moves."
"Ability?"
"Yeah, Froakie's ability is known as-"
"Torrent!" Fuwa joined the conversation, abruptly interrupting Karma, "This ability causes the Pokémon that possesses it to increase the power of its water-type moves by 50% when its energy is at half, in exchange for the energy expended in battle. And, in my opinion, it's a great ability for those Pokémon like Froakie because it makes their moves much more powerful, giving them an advantage when trying to defeat their opponents." The otaku girl finished explaining cheerfully, while Karma had only a sweat drop for interrupting her.
Her classmates were speechless, quite surprised that Fuwa explained Froakie's ability in such detail.
"Wow, Fuwa. I never thought you would know that ability so well." Sugaya looked at her in amazement.
"Well, I've always been interested in some Pokémon that I would like to have on my team once I become a trainer. And considering that we didn't have our Pokédex yet, I started researching data on many Pokémon thanks to the manga that talked about their biology." Fuwa said.
"I see. So, were you already planning to form your own Pokémon team, Fuwa-san?" Hara asked with a smile.
Fuwa chuckled, "Of course, and for that, I'm going to have a team full of Pokémon with great abilities similar to those of the characters in a shonen manga. After all, my goal is to become the best trainer in this region, and I will achieve that by winning this Pokémon league."
"Bulbasaur!" Bulbasaur said happily, agreeing with his trainer.
"I knew you were going to relate this to manga." Nakamura laughed, "I'm sure you're doing this because you want to experience the battles firsthand, right?"
Fuwa just smiled smugly, "Of course! I would love to experience those magnificent battles in person! And besides, I want to see my team develop and become the best by defeating the strongest opponents I'll face in the future. Of course, you're also on the list of rivals I must defeat to become the best." She winked at them.
Her classmates couldn't help but laugh a little, as they knew she was right and that they would have to compete with each other to achieve their goals.
"I guess you're right, Fuwa-san." Ritsu giggled.
Kayano smiled as she looked at her otaku classmate, 'It looks like she's feeling much better.' She remembered how sad Fuwa had looked that morning, 'Why did she feel that way, and why did she have to lie to us?' Kayano was still feeling a little distracted by what had happened earlier.
Back on the battlefield, Charcadet and Riolu were starting to feel quite tired.
"Hold on, guys!" Isogai and Maehara shouted in unison.
'Good, we already have the advantage.' Sugino started to smile, 'A few more moves and they'll both be defeated.'
"Aipom use Scratch on Riolu again!"
"Aipom!" Aipom's hands glowed again as she rushed toward Riolu.
"Use Endure!" Maehara ordered quickly.
"O-Olu!" Despite how tired she felt, Riolu would use her hands in time to grab Aipom's hands tightly and prevent her from scratching her.
"Aipom?!" Aipom was surprised that she stopped him with her hands.
"Oh, no!" Sugino was shocked.
"Oh, yeah, buddy!" Maehara started grinning, "Use Counter again!"
"Rioooo…" Once again, her body was covered in orange energy.
"Quick, try to free yourself!" Sugino shouted, feeling worried.
Aipom used all its strength to break free from Riolu's grip. Unfortunately, Aipom was unable to break free in time due to Riolu's strength.
Nagisa was shocked, 'It won't be possible for him to break free in time!'
"…Luuuu!" Riolu would kick Aipom in the stomach with its foot.
"AIIII!" Aipom cried out loudly as she was thrown forcefully.
"Oh, no!" Okuda gasped, with her hands on over her mouth.
"This attack was really strong!" Kanzaki was completely shocked.
"No way! Aipom!" Sugino shouted, feeling worried, as he watched Aipom fall near him.
Karasuma approached Aipom and saw that it was completely unconscious, "Aipom is unable to battle!" He announced.
"Whoaaa!" The class cheered with amazement.
Maehara was excited to have defeated his first opponent, "Alright! Good job, Riolu, you're the best!"
Riolu was so happy to have defeated its first opponent that it couldn't help but look cheerfully at her trainer, "Riolu!"
"Awesome! Did you see how Riolu held Aipom's hands for so long, only to kick him in the stomach?!" Kimura remarked in amazement.
"Well, since Aipom is weak against fighting-type attacks, Riolu had an easier time defeating it. Although I admit that he didn't do too badly." Itona said.
"Maehara has taken us by surprise throughout this battle. They really are amazing!" Okano smiled, her cheeks blushing slightly.
"Mien!" Mienfoo nodded in agreement with her trainer.
Sugino would grab his Aipom, "Aipom, are you alright?!" He was worried.
Aipom slowly opened its eyes and began to smile, "Aipom…" She said she was fine.
"Thanks for giving it your all, buddy." He gave her a smile. Then he turned to look at his friend, "I'm sorry, Nagisa, your Froakie will have to continue this battle alone."
"Don't worry, Sugino. I think we can handle it without any problem." Nagisa smiled at him warmly.
"Froakie!" Froakie said, smiling.
Kayano and her other classmates watched them with intrigue.
"Only Froakie remains. Now it's a two-against-one battle." Fuwa said seriously.
"There's no way. Now, Froakie is at a huge disadvantage." Nakamura said.
"D-Don't you think there's a possibility that they could actually beat them?" Okuda asked, nervously.
"Maybe, if Nagisa-kun can come up with a good strategy in time to help Froakie defeat them. But seeing the situation, I think it's going to be difficult for him." Karma responded.
Kayano felt a little nervous about the situation Nagisa was in, 'You can do it guys, don't give up.'
'Froakie is alone, and it's clear he's getting tired.' Nagisa began to assess the battle situation, 'Although it is also noticeable that Riolu and Charcadet are starting to get too tired. If I defeat one of them, the battle will be even again.'
"It looks like victory is assured, Isogai." Maehara smirked when he saw the advantage they had.
"It seems so. But we shouldn't celebrate until we're sure we've defeated Froakie." Isogai said.
"Right." Maehara turned back to the field, "Alright, Riolu, use Quick Attack!"
"Charcadet use Leer!" Isogai ordered.
"Olu/Charca!" Both Pokémon said.
Charcadet's eyes began to glow red as he looked at Froakie.
"F-Froaa!" Froakie collapsed because Charcadet's gaze intimidated him.
Riolu took advantage of the fact that he had lowered his guard and started running to attack him.
"Oh, no!" Ritsu gasped.
"It's going to hit him!" Hara exclaimed.
Nagisa knew immediately what he had to do, "Quick, dodge it!"
"Fr-Fr. Froakie!" Froakie jumped just in time to dodge Riolu's attack.
"Olu?!" Riolu was surprised that Froakie managed to dodge its attack.
"No way!" Maehara was shocked.
"Our technique didn't work!" Isogai said, surprised.
Nagisa started to smile, "Now use Water Gun!"
"Froakie!" Froakie said as it jumped again, preparing to shoot toward what appeared to be the direction Riolu was in.
Maehara realized this, "Watch out, Riolu!"
"Rio!" Riolu quickly raised her fists to try to protect himself from Froakie's attack. Suddenly, Froakie's eyes shifted in another direction, "Riolu?!" Riolu felt confused.
Karasuma seemed to realize what was going to happen, 'He's…'
Instead of Riolu, Froakie released a powerful stream of water toward Charcadet, surprising everyone.
"I wasn't going for Riolu, but for Charcadet!" Kataoka exclaimed, surprised.
"Oh, no! The worst part is that it's weak against water!" Okano said.
Charcadet was unable to dodge Froakie's powerful stream of water in time, "CHARCAAAA!" Charcadet let out a loud cry when he was attacked.
"Charcadet!" Isogai shouted, worried.
"It managed to attack Charcadet instead of Riolu! Awesome!" Fuwa's eyes sparkled as she felt amazed.
"Seriously, Froakie is amazing!" Kayano started to smile too much.
"Chiko/Char!" Chikorita and Charmander cheered for Froakie's advantage.
Karma looked at Nagisa, 'I see. Since Charcadet is a fire-type Pokémon, Froakie changed the direction of its attack toward Charcadet, knowing that it is weak against the water-type. And he did it without Nagisa-kun having to tell him who to attack first.' Karma smiled slightly, 'That Froakie seems to be really good.'
"C-Char…" Charcadet began to wobble too much.
"Hold on, buddy!" Isogai shouted, but it was useless because, seconds later, Charcadet would fall to the ground, "Oh, no! Charcadet!"
"It fell!" Chiba exclaimed, surprised.
"With that attack, it was to be expected that he couldn't hold out any longer." Hayami said.
Karasuma recovered quickly after Froakie surprised him a little, "Charcadet is unable to battle!" He announced.
"Whoaaa!" Once again, the class would explode with excitement.
'I beat him!' Nagisa was surprised that he had defeated the male representative's Pokémon. He couldn't help but smile, "Well done, Froakie! Keep it up!" He congratulated his Pokémon.
"Froakie!" Froakie smiled broadly.
"That was amazing, Nagisa-kun!" Okuda cheered.
"Your Froakie is really good!" Kanzaki cheered happily.
"Only Riolu remains! You can do it, guys!" Kayano cheerfully cheered them on.
"Chiko!" Chiko cheered.
Isogai took Charcadet in his arms, "You did a good job, buddy. You deserve a good rest." He smiled at him kindly.
"C-Charca…" Charcadet nodded wearily.
"Don't worry, Isogai; we'll do everything we can to win this battle. After all, we're assassins. No matter the circumstances, we'll find their weak spot and eliminate it without any problem." Maehara stated with determination.
"Riolu!" Riolu said it would not give up until it defeated Froakie.
"Alright, Nagisa. All you have to do is defeat Riolu, and we'll win this battle." Sugino said this, smiling excitedly at him.
Nagisa smiled back, "Yeah!"
"Quick Attack again!" Maehara ordered.
"Olu!" Riolu would run again to try to hit Froakie.
"Use Growl!" Nagisa quickly ordered.
"Cover your ears!" Kataoka warned everyone quickly, and they all covered their ears just in time.
"FROAAAAAAA!" Once again, Froakie let out a loud cry.
Riolu would stumble again at Froakie's loud cry.
"Nice, Froakie!" He congratulated, "Use Water Gun once more!"
"Froakie!" Froakie jumped in preparation for the shot, "Froaaaa…!"
"He's going to make it!" Kayano smiled excitedly.
"That attack will be the battle's final climax!" Fuwa said excitedly.
"Oh, you won't! Quick, use Counter!"
"Rioooo…!" Once again, her body was covered in orange energy as she jumped to counterattack.
'Their attacks are about to collide.' Karasuma thought.
"Kieee!" Froakie released a powerful stream of water at Riolu.
"Luuuu!" Riolu unleashed its full power in an attempt to counter Froakie's attack.
BOOM!
The collision of the attacks caused a small explosion and created a huge dust cloud.
"Froakie/Riolu!" Nagisa and Maehara shouted in unison, shocked that they couldn't clearly see the conditions of their Pokémon due to the dust covering the field.
"I can't see!" Sugino covered his eyes because of the dust.
"Did they attack at the same time?!" Isogai asked, as he helped cover Charcadet with his arms.
Kayano and her classmates were shocked by the clash of attacks.
"It can't be." Kayano gasped and covered her mouth with her hands.
"Both attacks seemed very powerful!" Nakamura tried to see the field, but she couldn't because of the dust, "Crap, I can't see anything with all this dust around us!"
"But what I'm sure of is that both attacks collided at the same time. And I don't think either of them managed to dodge them in time." Karma said, his eyes focusing only on the field, "All we can do is wait and see what the final outcome of this battle is."
"Chiko." Chikorita, Charmander, and the other Pokémon were worried about Froakie.
Nagisa was feeling nervous, 'Please, Froakie, I hope you're all right.'
"F-Froakie!"
Nagisa was surprised to hear Froakie's voice. Once the dust cloud had almost completely cleared, those present could see Froakie standing, seemingly 'unharmed'.
"Froakie!" Nagisa was relieved to see him standing up.
"That's great, Froakie is fine!" Kayano felt relieved.
"Chiko!" Chikorita was happy, too.
"That Froakie never ceases to amaze us." Karma smiled.
"Char! Char!" Charmander couldn't help but celebrate.
"This is incredible!" Fuwa was quite amazed by Nagisa's Froakie. She soon remembered the mysterious boy's Pokémon again when it used what appeared to be a water-type move, 'It looks like he already has competition.'
'I see. Although they launched their attacks at the same time, there was a clear difference in the power of their movements. Since Froakie had his ability activated, it was no obstacle for his stream of water to hit Riolu, who was unable to return the attack.' Karasuma looked at the field, 'Which means…'
Maehara's eyes widened when he saw his unconscious Riolu.
"Oh, no! RIOLU!" Maehara shouted.
"It can't be!" Okano was shocked.
"Riolu was hit by Froakie's attack." Yada remarked.
"Riolu is unable to battle! The winners of this match are Nagisa-kun and Sugino-kun!" Karasuma indicated the winning team.
A few seconds later, the entire class started cheering for this incredible Pokémon battle.
"That was amazing!"
"You did it, Nagisa, Sugino!"
"Your Pokémon were really amazing!"
"They won this battle fair and square!"
"Don't feel bad, Isogai-kun, Maehara-kun! You guys did pretty well, too!"
'We did it! We won our first battle!' Nagisa began to smile broadly, unable to believe that he had won.
"Froakie!" Despite having fought a tough battle, Froakie still had enough energy left to hug his trainer.
"Thank you so much for giving it your all, buddy!" Nagisa congratulated him, smiling warmly.
"Froakie!" Froakie was feeling happy.
Sugino approached Nagisa, "They did it, Nagisa, Froakie. Thanks to their good strategy, we were able to win this battle." He congratulated him happily.
"Aipom!" Aipom also congratulated them.
"No, you guys did your part, too, Sugino. Without the help of your Aipom, we would never have been able to defeat Charcadet and Riolu." Nagisa said sincerely, smiling at him.
"Thank you, although I think you did most of the hard work." Sugino smiled.
Maehara hurried to the field to check on his Pokémon.
"Riolu, are you alright?!" He bent down to carry him in his arms.
Riolu opened her eyes slightly, "Olu…" She said that she was feeling fine.
"That's good." Maehara sighed with relief.
Isogai and Charcadet approached, "We were close to winning. But it really was an incredible battle we fought. Right, Maehara?" Isogai smiled at his friend but noticed that Maehara was only focused on his Riolu, "Maehara?"
"I'm sorry, buddy, but we couldn't win our first Pokémon battle. I've disappointed you."
Riolu's eyes widened in surprise at what he said.
"I promised we'd be the strongest here, but I couldn't think of a better strategy to help you defeat Froakie." He lowered his head, feeling disappointed in himself. Isogai and Charcadet looked at him with concern, "I guess you have every right to hate me. I don't think I'm ready to be a good Pokémon trainer."
"What are you talking about, idiot?!"
Maehara looked at Okano and his classmates.
"Just because you lost your first battle doesn't give you the right to tell yourself that you're a bad trainer." Okano looked at him seriously, "You should be proud of yourself for giving it your all."
"Okano." Maehara looked at her in surprise.
"Hinata is right. You and Isogai-kun proved to be good Pokémon trainers. Since your Pokémon have been coordinating well with you, this battle has been nearly perfect." Kataoka smiled at him.
"Yeah, even your Riolu was able to defeat Aipom thanks to the strategy you ordered it to use." Kimura said.
"And they even seemed to have the advantage in this battle." Okajima added, in amazement, as Mimura nodded.
"And you really can't deny that Riolu is strong, considering how long it can hold out in battle." Yada smiled.
"They amazed us so much!" Kurahashi said cheerfully.
"You guys." Maehara was actually surprised, while Isogai and Charcadet just smiled.
That was when Riolu decided to stand up and look at her trainer.
"Riolu!" Riolu gave him a warm smile.
"Riolu, aren't you disappointed about losing this battle?"
"Rio!" Riolu shook her head, "Olu! Olu! Riolu!" Riolu said she was quite happy to have given her all in her first battle, and that she definitely wants to continue training with him so they can become stronger in the future.
"See. It's clear that Riolu isn't angry, but rather happy that we had our first Pokémon battle." Isogai said to his friend with a smile.
"Charca!" Charcadet nodded.
Maehara looked quite surprised, "Really?"
"Riolu! Riolu!" Riolu nodded happily, glad that he was her trainer.
"Now, stop crying and get up, so you can show everyone that you are a worthy Pokémon trainer. After all, that's how I see you, Maehara." Okano said, smiling at him, "Of course, only behind me." The girl joked.
"Mienfoo!" Mienfoo agreed with her trainer.
Thanks to the words of encouragement from his classmates and Riolu, Maehara started to smile.
"You're right, guys. I can't stay depressed just because I lost one battle. I have to try my hardest to prove to everyone that I'll be the best trainer, not only in Kunugigaoka, but in all of Kanto." He said it with great enthusiasm, "No matter how many times I lose, I'll keep getting back up, as long as I win and become the best!"
"Riolu!" Riolu was very excited, and it was clear that she would continue to work hard so that they could both achieve their goals.
His classmates smiled when they saw him in a better mood.
"Oh, yeah! The stronger we become; the more girls will want to be with us!"
The smiles on the faces of his classmates and Riolu quickly faded.
"There's no doubt that the better we become, the more popular we'll be among the beautiful female trainers in this region. I'm sure they'll want to hang out with us and ask for our autographs. I can't wait for this to happen to us!" He smiled excitedly as he imagined being surrounded by several female trainers.
His classmates seemed disappointed with Maehara (except Okajima). And Okano felt a vein throbbing in his forehead, feeling quite annoyed by the boy's womanizing tendencies.
Maehara looked at Riolu, who simply remained silent, "What do you say, Riolu? Let's start our incredible friendship by going on a date with any Pokémon that catches your eye, and the-"
"RIOLU!" Riolu let out a loud yell and glared angrily at her trainer, causing Maehara to jump in fright.
A few seconds later, Riolu walked away from him. Although Riolu liked her trainer, she still hated his womanizing side.
"Oh, come on, Riolu, at least try! I assure you; you'll see that there's nothing wrong with dating girls!" He tried to convince her, but was obviously ignored.
"Hmm, Maehara, I don't think you quite understand Riolu's feelings yet." Isogai looked disappointed.
"You can't force it to do something it doesn't like." Kataoka said sternly.
"I know. I just wanted him to understand and appreciate my preferences, even if it was just a little." Feeling defeated, Maehara lowered his head.
"Well, she doesn't seem interested in dating other Pokémon." Kurahashi smiled.
"She?" It took him a few seconds to realize what Kurahashi had said, "RIOLU IS FEMALE?!" He shouted comically in surprise.
"Wait, you didn't know?!" Mimura said.
"Of course not! I thought it was a male!" Maehara snapped.
"Now we know why she looks at you with disgust whenever you talk about girls." Okajima commented dryly.
Following Riolu's example, Okano would also distance himself from Maehara, "You idiot." She muttered angrily.
Meanwhile, the rest of the class went to congratulate Nagisa and Sugino.
"Congratulations guys! It was definitely an incredible battle they fought!" Kayano congratulated them.
"Chiko!" Chikorita nodded.
"Y-Your Pokémon were very strong throughout the battle." Okuda said, feeling excited.
"Budew!" Budew agreed.
"Don't try to lie to us. You knew you were going to win, didn't you?" Nakamura grinned and nudged Nagisa gently.
"Not at all, Nakamura-san. It was just a matter of luck that we were able to coordinate well and manage to beat them." He smiled sincerely.
"You're right, and it was all thanks to the great work our Pokémon did." Sugino smiled.
"Aipom/Froakie!" Both Pokémon cried out happily, though they soon groaned in pain.
"Are you alright?!" Nagisa asked, concerned to see that they were a little hurt.
Although they felt physically tired, Froakie and Aipom just nodded their heads to indicate that they were fine.
"It's amazing that they want to appear cool after having endured such a tough battle." Hara smiled as Cleffa giggled.
"Take it easy, buddy." Sugino chuckled.
"Sugino-kun?"
Sugino turned to look at Kanzaki, surprised, "K-Kanzaki-san!" He blushed slightly.
"Here." With a cute smile, she would hand him a Potion bottle, "You can use this to heal Aipom's wounds."
"Ralts." Ralts said, smiling.
Sugino couldn't help but smile, "Thank you so much, Kanzaki-san!"
Kanzaki smiled, "You're welcome. Please pass it on to Nagisa-kun, too."
"I'll do it!" Sugino said as he saw her walk away. He couldn't help but sigh happily, 'Kanzaki-san is so kind; she's like an angel.'
"Aipom!"
As he looked down, he saw his Aipom grinning mischievously at him. Now, Aipom understood why her trainer always got so nervous whenever he was near Kanzaki.
"Why are you grinning like that, Aipom?" Sugino sweat dropped.
Karma approached Nagisa, "Nagisa-kun, I have to admit that I didn't expect your Froakie to be so strong throughout the entire battle."
"Yes, I was surprised, too. I was impressed when I looked at his data in the Pokédex and saw that his stats for attacking and dodging were very good." Nagisa was smiling, "I can't wait for Froakie to get much stronger in the future, so we can win the Pokémon League and show how good I can be!"
"Froakie!" Froakie said, feeling as determined as his trainer.
"So, celebrate this victory, Nagisa-kun, because I'm going to make sure I don't lose to you." He said defiantly, grinning devilishly, "After all, Charmander won't be defeated so easily by your Froakie's basic moves. Instead, he will defeat you instantly and they'll see that I'm the best at everything."
"Charma!" Trying to imitate his trainer, Charmander smirked devilishly at Froakie and told him that he could never beat him.
"Um, yeah, sure." Nagisa sweat dropped, feeling a little uncomfortable.
"F-Froa." Froakie nodded nervously.
"That was awesome, Nagisa-kun!" Fuwa said excitedly as she approached Nagisa, "Your Froakie truly stole the show in this battle, defeating Isogai-kun's and Maehara-kun's Pokémon in an epic way!"
"Bulbasaur!" Bulbasaur was also mesmerized by the battle.
"Thanks, Fuwa-san. But I think you're exaggerating a bit." He smiled nervously.
"I'm not exaggerating when I say this battle was truly amazing! I even thought for a second that we were watching a live tournament!" Fuwa clarified, causing her classmates to sweat dropped, "Seriously, it's incredible to witness these battles in person! It's nothing compared to seeing it on TV or in manga!"
"Calm down, Fuwa-san." Hara smiled slightly, trying to calm her down, "I know you're very excited about this, and I don't blame you. But I think it's better to save all that excitement for when it's your turn to battle."
"And try to deny that we have witnessed a great battle like this. Nonsense!" Fuwa replied, "Nagisa-kun and Yama-kun truly deserve to be called great Pokémon trainers!"
Her classmates looked confused when she mentioned someone they didn't know.
"Uh, Fuwa-san… Who is 'Yama-kun'?" Kayano asked.
"Bulba?" Bulbasaur also asked.
Fuwa tensed up when she realized what she had said, 'Oh, crap!'
Before she could even respond, their teacher would call them all to gather, "Gather around, kids!"
As the students approached their teacher, Kayano noticed that Fuwa seemed nervous.
'Why is she acting like this? Was it because she mentioned that Yama-kun?' Kayano thought, trying to figure out what was happening to her classmate.
"I must say, you boys put up a great starter battle. They did a good job of having their Pokémon use their moves at the exact moment their opponents were most vulnerable. They executed their strategies very well throughout the battle." Karasuma said. The boys who fought began to smile.
"However, their Pokémon are still far from being like those talented trainers. Since you and your Pokémon made some mistakes during the battle. For example, they got distracted at some points during the battle, and failed to give orders to their Pokémon when they could have attacked or dodged in time." The boys now felt a little embarrassed, "If I had battled all of you with only one Pokémon, I would have defeated you instantly with a single move. I'm sure that the Pokémon the campus students received are almost on the same level as mine, and can defeat yours if you don't properly use the strategies you plan to employ during your battles."
This caused some students to lower their heads and start to feel insecure.
'He's right, they would defeat us instantly. I don't know how long it will take us to prove to them that we're not useless and that we can surpass them.' Nagisa felt a little sad.
"Don't feel bad. I'm not saying that you did it wrong." Karasuma clarified, "On the contrary, they managed to show the full potential of their Pokémon. The more you train with your Pokémon and bond with them, the stronger they will become in the future. They will surpass several rivals, including the other students, and even me or him."
After those words, the students' spirits would rise again, as they wanted to be the best trainers here.
"You're right, Karasuma-sensei. The more effort we put in, the more we can show others our full potential." Kurahashi smiled cheerfully.
"Cuteee!" Cutiefly said cheerfully.
"To do that, we need to gain a lot of experience so that we can be considered really good trainers." Isogai said with a smile. Maehara nodded beside him.
"Charca!" Charcadet nodded.
"We're going to show those fools what we're capable of!" Terasaka declared with determination, hitting his fist into his hand.
"Timburr!" Timburr was feeling determined too.
"That's the spirit! Just like with all of you, your Pokémon will be receiving the same kind of training that we have been teaching you, such as attacking, dodging, and shooting precisely at your targets." Karasuma said, "That's how all of you will become great Pokémon trainers, and also excellent assassins. This increases their chances of defeating that villainous team (Japanese: Villainous organizations/Sinister organizations)."
The students stared intently at their teacher because they knew exactly what he was talking about.
'We're assassins, and our objective is to take down that dangerous team before March of next year. If we fail, Earth will fall into the wrong hands, which could be the end of everything we know.' Nagisa thought, intrigued, 'We will not let that happen and throw away this chance to be the heroes of this mission. We and our Pokémon will give our all to be the best assassins and take out those villains once and for all. As we make the most of this training, we'll also have fun, not just as students, but now as Pokémon trainers as well. The world will see what we are capable of.' Nagisa started to smile with determination.
Even though E Class is seen by others as useless, they have been chosen to take down a mysterious evil organization. They only have a year to achieve their goal, otherwise it will be too late. What future awaits these children as assassins?
Kunugigaoka Station
At the train station, the doors of a train began to open.
"Osha!" Rushing out the door, a Pokémon known as Oshawott would come out very excited.
"Hold up, Oshawott!" A black-haired boy known as Nakayama Akihito would quickly come out.
He managed to grab Oshawott in his arms, "Oshawott, you know you shouldn't run out like that with so many people around! You could get lost!"
"Osha." Embarrassed by his trainer's scolding, Oshawott lowered his head.
"Hey, don't feel bad. You know I'm not angry about that. I just want you to be careful when you get off the train." He gave him a slight smile.
Oshawott started to smile, knowing that his trainer cared a lot about him, "Oshawott!" He nodded.
Akihito began looking around, "Well, we've finally arrived. Now it's time to head to Kunugigaoka School!"
"Oshawott!" Oshawott jumped excitedly.
"I see you're very excited, aren't you?"
"Osha!" Oshawott nodded in affirmation.
"I must admit that I am also very excited to officially start our adventures!" Akihito said, smiling with determination, "All right, then. It's time to head over there!"
"Oshawott!" Oshawott said enthusiastically as they began walking toward Kunugigaoka School.
'I wonder how you've been doing in that class lately... Fuwa.'
