Chapter Text
There was a time when Harry Potter used to associate platinum blond hair with one person and one person only.
For a while now though, that had changed drastically.
It all started on a blistering summer day when Andromeda had received an Owl from none other than one Draco Malfoy, who decided that he wanted to reach out to the only living member of his family to make amends.
Apparently the letter had been so meaningful and thoughtful and apologetic and moving that Andromeda had immediately reached out to Malfoy to invite him over for tea. Harry knew that Andromeda had never harbored any hatred toward Narcissa or Draco. If anything, she missed her sister dearly and was always regretful that she never got a chance to talk to her before she had passed away. When the news was reported in the papers, Harry let Teddy stay with him for a whole week to allow Andromeda the space to grieve the connection she had lost entirely too soon.
Over tea, Malfoy and Andromeda had patched up any remaining animosity they carried for one another—which was very little, really. As it turned out, an elegant nose and severe facial structure were not the only things they had in common. They both shared a genuine interest in novels, music, and all kinds of things that Harry, quite frankly, couldn't care less about.
But the most important side effect of this letter was the meeting of Draco Malfoy and six-year-old Teddy Lupin. If Andromeda was to be believed, it had been something like love at first sight.
Teddy was positively enamored with the ex-Slytherin seeker who spewed dry, funny things and bought him the newest broom on the market.
Teddy was besotted with the former spoiled brat who took him to get ice cream at Fortescue’s and bought him everything he could ever want at Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes.
Teddy was obsessed with the talented potioneer who would create bespoke formulas to help tame Teddy’s hair.
Teddy talked about Malfoy all the time, wondering what he was doing, or what he was wearing, or what he was eating, or whether he was sleeping or generally just existing.
All of this would have been very bothersome if it weren’t for one tiny, annoying detail.
Harry Potter was also obsessed with Draco Malfoy.
It was terribly inconvenient, really, because for years, he had been wondering what the git was getting up to. Unfortunately, Malfoy had decided to fly pretty under-the-radar because it took a lot of work (two Floo calls and one hasty autograph on a copy of the Daily Prophet) to figure out where he was. As it turned out, he was Healer Malfoy now, working at St. Mungo’s in the children’s department. If someone had asked Harry years ago if he saw a future where Draco Malfoy would be tending to kids all day, he would have laughed in their face. But again, if Andromeda was to be believed, he was apparently rather talented at it and had a natural knack for connecting with children.
All this to say…
There was a time when Harry Potter used to associate platinum blond hair with one person and one person only. For a while now though, that had changed drastically. Because since the day Teddy Lupin met Draco Malfoy, his hair color hadn’t changed back from platinum blond—not even once.
