Chapter Text
Blu thought his life would be perfectly happy after he and Jewel got together and had a family, despite the rough events he went through with her back in Rio, they were able to pull through them, and finally get together, he didn't think anything could tear them apart, and when they had kids, he thought he would have a great family for the rest of his life. But.. once they went to the Amazon.. it.. all fell apart.
Blu's had to go through a lot ever since he arrived here, with him trying desperately to get the approval of Jewel's family and her tribe, he's tried so hard to do it. It's almost been to the point where he's had to abandon the life he once had in Rio for his family's happiness, but while he tried his hardest to adapt, be more like the Tribe, he.. just couldn't do it. And after he lost the entire tribe the Nut supply in the Pit of Doom.. he feels.. broken.
Blu sat alone in the Pit of Doom after he lost the whole game just from one stupid shot, he lost so much for the tribe, and now he's hated by pretty much all of them. His family is disappointed in him, and he's sure his friends are not sure how to handle this knowing what he did, was likely the biggest mistake he's made yet. The only thing he was doing right now is looking into the water below, he could see his reflection even from this height, he didn't say anything, and just remained silent, he'll likely never earn the respect or trust of Jewel's father Eduardo, Roberto, Mimi, or any of the tribe after this, he was seen nothing more as a pet by them, and now.. he's.. just alone..
"W.. why? Why did it have to come to this? It was one mistake.. and.. it.. tore everything away from me.." Blu asked while he looked at his reflection, and questioned everything that's happened to him here.
" I tried.. so hard to prove myself to everyone.. show them.. I'm more then just a pet.. and yet.. I only made it worse.." Blu said with guilt while he looked at his wings, and felt horrible for what he's done here.
"Why did I have to take my family here to the Amazon? If we had just stayed in Rio.. we'd still be a happy family, the new year had.. just started, and.. now.. I've ruined.. everything.." Blu said in his thoughts while he held his head and felt it pounding from having so many thoughts going through him all at once. But as he kept on thinking about this, he heard the sound of wings flapping just behind him, and heard someone land down, and he had an idea on who it was.
"Blu.. are you.. okay?" A familiar voice asked with a worried tone which he sighed at, and as he turned around, he saw Jewel behind him, but.. he could barely look at her after what he's done here.
"N.. no.. I'm.. not Jewel.." Blu replied with regret while he looked back over the edge, and Jewel walked up to him to try and help.
Jewel knew that things weren't going that well at all, after they lost the game, Eduardo has been really frustrated and has left to make plans on what they'll be doing now that they'll have to find new food supplies, it was a tough time for all of them, and even right now, she could see that Blu still felt awful for losing this game.
"Blu.. I know that it's been a lot, but.. I promise it'll get better, we just.. have to push through it, we've been able to do it before, I'm sure in time.. it will get better." Jewel said while Blu looked back at her, and began standing up again to look directly at her.
"How is this gonna get better Jewel? I lost the entire tribes Nut supply to the Scarlet's, all because of one.. stupid backwards shot! If I had just payed attention, this all could've been avoided!" Blu said with frustration while he kicked a tiny rock nearby which dropped down into the water below.
"Blu.. it's okay, it's.. just a bunch of Brazil Nuts, I'm sure the tribe will find a better way to move on from it?" Jewel replied while he looked at her again, still looking very upset about what he's done.
"And what's gonna happen after that Jewel? How do you think they'll keep looking at me going forward? Everyone here.. hates me Jewel, as hard as I've tried, as hard as I've been doing my best to try and blend in.. no one's been willing to try and help me, and.. everything I've been through here, it's.. just lead to it all getting worse.." Blu said with guilt while Jewel looked really worried over how he's acting out right now.
"Blu, please try to calm down, your overthinking things, the kids are still having a fun time here, and they get along with Roberto, my dad and Aunt Mimi. I'm sure that if we try to.." Jewel was soon shushed by Blu again who looked at her again with a growing look of fear, as he knew they wouldn't just forgive him for this.
"Jewel, I'm sorry.. if this makes me sound rude but.. your dad.. he doesn't like me, I've tried training with him, I've tried seeing what life is like here in the Wild.. and.. it.. just isn't for me. I'm.. not able to handle it Jewel.. I.. can't.." Blu said with worry while Jewel looked at him with concern once again.
And as much as he wanted to give things another chance, to try and prove the tribe wrong,.. he didn't feel like he could do it anymore, this isn't where he belongs, he never should've come here in the first place. And once he thought over all of this, all the mistakes he's made here, and saw that no matter what, the tribe just won't accept him.. there was only one decision he had left...
"Blu.. please, the kids will come around, they still care for you, we all do. We're all just.. having a bad day." Jewel said just as Blu spoke up again, sounding completely upset about it.
"I want to go home Jewel.." Blu said regretfully while Jewel looked worried hearing that, and tried one more time to convince him again.
"Blu.. maybe.. this is home." Jewel said with a light smile which Blu raised an eyebrow at.
"Home? For who Jewel?" Blu asked as he was backing up from her while she tried explaining things.
"Well.. for.. us Blu. Maybe this is where we belong, I know your still having a rough time here.. but.. " Jewel couldn't finish her sentence again before he interrupted her, and he looked more frustrated hearing this.
"Well I don't Jewel! I.. never belonged here! I have tried.. so hard to get the approval of your family, to try and show them how much more there is to me. But all I've done is screw things up, and make things worse for everyone! I can't do this anymore!" Blu replied again while she looked very surprised seeing him act out like this.
"Blu, please, the kids are still having an amazing time!" Jewel argued back while Blu sighed again and looked at her with a stern look.
He knew everyone else was having a better time here, but not him. He wasn't raised in the wild like everyone else was, he was raised by Linda, in Minnesota. He remembered the awful things he's gone through in this jungle, not just because of bad luck, but from what Eduardo's put him through, how the tribe's treated him, and Roberto flirting with her while he just watches, he's had enough of it.
"Do you describe, mosquitos, mud.. being eaten alive by giant snakes, being awaken by scary spiders crawling around you, being bit by piranha's in the waters, and being looked down upon EVERY single bird in this place, amazing?!" Blu asked while he made multiple expressions showcasing what he's encountered what he's been through here.
"I'm not like the Tribe Jewel, I'm not Wild. I'm not like any of our other friends, or even children who can handle being here FAR better then I ever could! I was raised as a domestic pet for most of my life after being captured by Smugglers! Even if I wasn't captured, I doubt I could ever live a normal life in the forest like you, or everyone else I know can!" Blu said as he paced around the center of the pit while Jewel watched him do this.
"I'm just.. me, I'm.. Blu from Minnesota. and.. I'm ready to go back to Rio. It's the only place.. I feel.. at home.." Blu said regretfully while Jewel was shocked hearing that from him.
"Blu, this is where your family is!" Jewel argued again before Blu countered with a much harsher correction.
"You mean.. your family. The one's who've done nothing but reject me, and make my life worse with every mistake I made, just because I wasn't like them. " Blu corrected which was making her more frustrated.
"My family IS your family!" Jewel argued back while Blu looked at his wing with even more frustration hearing it.
"Well it sure doesn't feel that way! All they've done is look down at because they see me as nothing more then a pet, and that friend of yours, Roberto, keeps flirting with you right in front of me! And you never once tried seeing things from my perspective! Do you think the kids would be okay with that?!" Blu argued again while she was getting very upset hearing all of this, and after having enough of this, it all finally came out.
"Fine! if you like Rio so much.. then.. why don't you just go back without us?!" Jewel screamed with anger which was heard across the entire area and echoed through the forest, which was soon filled with nothing but a eerie silence the moment it faded away.
Blu felt heartbroken hearing those words, even after all this time, after how much pain he went through because of her family and his struggles adjusting to wild life, she never was able to see just how much he's suffered here, how hard it's been for him, and after hearing that from her.. it finally broke him. Jewel herself looked shocked in what she had just said to her own.. husband, and tried saying anything she could to say she didn't really mean it.
"B.. Blu.. I.. I didn't.." Jewel said before he interrupted her again, and finally had enough of this, if she can't see it, he'll go it alone, after hearing that from her, it finally broke him, he couldn't take being in the Amazon any longer, and if he has to go back home by himself, so be it.
"Fine, if that's what it will take, if that's what will make you happy, make sure everyone here, moves onto a better life, then I'll leave!" Blu said with tears while he was turning around and was almost ready to fly off.
"Blu! Wait!" Jewel argued back while she finally realized what he's been going through, but.. it was too late. And as Blu looked back at her one last time, she could see he looked completely heartbroken by all of this, no matter what he did to make her see things in his point of view, she just wouldn't admit she and her family were in the wrong for how he was being treated here.
"I.. thought I was your one and only Jewel..." Blu said with tears while Jewel was silent as he said one last thing..
"But.. I guess I was just the only one after all.. I hope you have a happy life here Jewel.. if you ever want to see me again, I'll be back in Rio.. but.. if this is it.. goodbye." Blu finished before he quickly took off into the air and started flying into the sky to leave this place for good.
"Blu!!" Jewel screamed desperately before he flew too far away for anything else she had to say to be heard. She looked both horrified, and heartbroken herself of what she's just done. She may not have seen it before with how he's felt about all of this, but now.. she fully does, but.. it came with having the one who saved her life's heart break.. and now.. she was only left by herself
After leaving Jewel behind to be with her family, and try to fix the mess that he ended up making, Blu flew as far as he could from the forest by himself, with none of his friends or family there to support him. What once started out as a simple flight with everything he could ask for, ended up with him leaving with nothing left, he was heartbroken, and felt like he and Jewel really might not make up for what happened. It should've been clear to her that he was having a horrible time through all of the physical and emotional abuse he was suffering because of her father's intimidations, but she was too lost in her own happiness to see just how he felt about all of it.
No matter what Blu did to try and adjust to living in the jungle, he just couldn't. He was raised as a pet for most of his life by Linda, after being captured by Smugglers when he was only a hatchling. It was an event that traumatized him from being able to fly for almost his whole life until just a couple years ago, but the memory still haunts him, and after losing his family because of things that were just beyond his control, he didn't know what to do anymore. He wasn't even sure going back to Rio will help him recover from all that happened here.
He spent hours flying alone by himself, not even looking back once, because he really felt like Jewel wouldn't understand where he was coming from. The sun had already set by now, and the only thing that could guide him, were the beautiful stars in the night sky, it was the only thing to give him some sense of direction as he heard nothing but the cold, eerie sounds of the wind pass by him.
As Blu flew alone by himself, he was still crying heavily over what happened with Jewel, she was the one who gave him the courage to fly again, the one who helped him find love, and be able to be a father in the first place, but after all that happened, he feels like he hasn't learned anything now, and like he was back to how he started before he even went to Rio. He could see dozens of shooting stars flying through the skies like it was a meteor shower, and with how many he's seeing in just one night, it may be a once in a lifetime event for him with how many there are.
" I tried Jewel, I tried to adjust being apart of your family, but they all hate me, how was I gonna make it any better, even if I stayed?" Blu asked himself while he flew through the night sky, he took time to look at the beautiful shooting stars flying by him, like he was flying directly under them when looking below, it was a sight he never thought he'd see in his life, and it made him wonder just what else there is beyond this planet, he could very much be a spec in a much larger universe that mankind has barely scraped the surface of exploring.
"At least this night is really beautiful, I just wish Jewel could've understood why I couldn't handle being in the Amazon." Blu thought while the stars reflected through his own eyes, and the sparkles they gave off was something that entranced him, it was one of the most beautiful things he'd ever seen, and he wished he could see more like this. He could even see a very large comet flying by the planet, which even from this distance, looked even bigger then what he was seeing.
"Maybe this Meteor Shower can still be seen in Rio, we're still just getting into a new year after all.." Blu thought while he kept on flying, trying not to slow down with any risk of him being followed.
But as Blu kept on flying, still thinking over what the point of everything he's done up to this point was for, something unusual caught his attention. In the corner of his eye, he noticed a bright light was coming from a part of the forest he was flying over, like it had crashed there some time ago, it gave off a glow unlike anything he'd seen, and despite how stubborn he could be, his curiosity got the better of him in this case.
"What is that..?" Blu asked with fascination before he turned into the direction the light was coming from, and flew over to it to investigate. The closer he got, the more he could see a strange golden light form from it like a pillar shooting into the sky, it didn't look like a meteor of sorts, but it was something that was not of this world.
"What could give off such a.. beautiful light like this?" Blu thought as he flew in even more, and he soon saw a small crater had been formed after something crashed in the forest, the closer Blu got to it, he saw this object resembled a star, it was very small, but didn't look like anything that could harm him.
"What is this?" Blu asked with fascination as he landed down near it, and slowly walked up to it with caution. It was so small, yet so beautiful in ways he's never seen, he couldn't help but take a closer look.
"Is this.. a star?" Blu asked with amazement as he was inches away from it, despite being nervous about what it is, he just kept moving closer. He slowly began to move his wing towards it, but just before he touched it, the thing suddenly jumped to life, and suddenly jumped in the air which made Blu jump back with surprise.
"Whoa! What the?!" Blu asked with shock as the star creature finally recovered, and what he did not expect at all, was that this creature, was somehow alive!
"What in the name of..?" Blu asked with disbelief as he backed up from it a bit, and as the creature floated around, and tried getting it's bearings, it soon noticed him just a few feet away from it.
The creature mainly looked like a small star with two little eyes to see things, and that was mainly it, it didn't show anything else then what it mainly resembled, but Blu couldn't help but be both slightly afraid, and fascinated with what this thing is.
"W.. what the heck are you?! Are you a star?!" Blu asked with surprise while briefly looking up at the starry sky for a moment, before looking back at him, and as the creature did the same thing, it actually made a response to him a few seconds later.
"Not exactly, but I could be asking the same for you, what the heck are you? What is this place?" The creature asked which caught Blu off guard even more as he saw the thing could also speak too.
"You can speak too?!" Blu asked with shock as he backed up even more from it, and started to feel like he was hallucinating at the sight of this.
"Uh.. okay, maybe I passed out during my flight back to Rio, this.. can't be real, can it?" Blu asked while the creature listened to what he was saying, and it suddenly used it's little arms and smacked him across the face to get his attention.
"Ow! What the heck was that for?!" Blu asked as he rubbed his face while the creature looked at him with a raised eyebrow.
"Did that feel real?" The creature asked which Blu took a few moments to process before seeing that this really was real after all.
"Y.. yes.." Blu replied while looking more depressed as he saw it was, which only showed that his fight with Jewel earlier was true as well..
The creature took a moment to look at Blu again, and it soon noticed Blu was clearly upset over something, he couldn't just be out here for no reason other then finding him here, and it only got it curious on what it's doing out here this late at night.
"So.. back to what I was asking you, who and what are you? Where.. am I?" The creature asked while looking around the rather empty forest they were in at the moment.
"Uh.. I'm.. Blu, I'm a Blue Macaw.. and.. your in the Amazon Rainforest, on the planet known as Earth, do you remember how you got here?" Blu asked with a curious look as it tried remembering how it got here.
"Earth.. give me a moment.. oh yeah! I simply fell off my mother's ship when we were passing by this world! She must be looking for me if I did! She never leaves us Luma's behind!" The creature answered which only confused Blu even more.
"What? Luma's? Is that what your kind is called.. and what even is this mother ship your talking about?" Blu asked while trying to understand what it's trying to say. And the creature simply pointed up to the starry sky again, directly towards the very thing it came from this night.
"That! That's where me and my family live!" The creature answered while pointing upwards. Blu looked upwards towards the sky again, and he soon saw the creature was pointing directly at the comet he saw earlier.
"Wait.. you came from that comet? Why are you all even passing by Earth in the first place?" Blu asked again while the creature crossed it's arm as it was being asked all of this.
"We pass by every planet in the universe during our travels, this world is just one of many that we pass by, what you might see as a simple comet, is my home, and where my mama has lived for most of her life." The creature answered again which Blu took time to think over.
This was all.. extremely confusing for Blu to understand. He's already been through a lot today after what happened with him and Jewel, and the rest of the Blue Macaw tribe, now he's encountered what everyone would refer to as an alien, but despite how strange it is, it looked harmless. It's voice sounded like a small child, kinda like his own children in ways. And the more he thought over this, he started to calm down so he and this.. Luma, could try to understand eachother a bit better. After taking some time to think, Blu soon sighed with a sad look as he looked back on this awful day of his, and he soon looked at the creature for any answers he could get.
"Well.. at least you still have a family to go back to, if your gonna head back to that comet, it's best to do it now, there's not much else you'll find on this planet if you stay." Blu said with sadness which the Luma took notice of, it started to look more concerned for him, and was curious to know why he's so sad.
"What do you mean by that? What about your own family? Don't you have anyone to go back to?" It asked again which Blu struggled to answer after all that happened today.
"I honestly don't know anymore, I thought I knew where I belonged with my family, but after what happened in the past few days.. I lost everything, I.. don't really have anyone to go back to now, I'm just trying to head back to my old home.. but.. it won't be the same, I'm just.. lost now, I don't know how I can fix it." Blu said with guilt as he sat down on the edge of the crater, and felt more tears come from his eyes as he looked back on what happened with him.
"No matter what I did, I only ended up making things worse for my wife, and my family. She couldn't see just what I was going through after being lost in her own world, because she had reunited with her family. I tried to prove myself to them, but everything I did made it worse, they all hate me now, and.. I don't know where to go now." Blu explained while he looked up to the sky, and questioned everything he's done up to this point once again.
"I don't feel like I belong here anymore, after ruining everything for my family, I don't know how I'm gonna move on, my wife has her family and my friends to help, but now.. I have nothing.. I just feel.. alone." Blu said with tears as he looked back on his life, and how it lead up to this.
The Luma looked really regretful for him after hearing all of this, while it doesn't know the full story yet, it knows enough to understand how alone he feels, losing a family is hard, and without any support, he'll never recover from it. And even if they just met, and barely know eachother, it felt like it should help him to try and recover from his heartbreak, and either make things up with his wife, or maybe even move on from it.
As Blu sat by himself in complete silence, the Luma soon floated up to him to speak again, after hearing most of his story, he had an idea on how he could help.
"If you feel like you can't fix anything, maybe you just need some help to understand how you can do it. My mama knows what it's like to lose a family, but she's showed care for others, and helped them process what they've gone through. She might be able to help you if you meet her." The Luma suggested which confused Blu as to how that could even work.
"How could I possibly fix this? There was so much more that I went through, I don't think even she can help me if I met her.." Blu replied while feeling like this just can't work with how horribly everything was handled.
"Well.. you'll never know until you try right? I know your going through a lot, but sitting here, and crying to yourself about it won't help. If there's anything that can help you, it's mama. I'm sure she'll understand what your going through if you tell her what happened." The Luma encouraged while Blu was starting to wipe away his tears after hearing that, and despite still being confused, he was getting more interested as he was told this.
"You really believe that she could help me with this somehow?" Blu asked with concern while looking at the Luma, and after a single nod from it as an answer, Blu took a moment to think over how this could work.
This all still didn't make that much sense to him, he barley knew what this creature was at all, and even if it's mother could help him, it did mean he may have to leave Earth, and go to space to understand what to do. But at this point, he's desperate to try anything, if he can fix his relationship with Jewel, he's willing to try anything if it means it'll fix his broken relationship.
After taking a moment to think over it, Blu soon sighed again before looking at the Luma, and felt ready to at least give this a chance if it'll help him.
"Okay.. I'll try following your advise, but.. how are we even gonna get there? Wouldn't I like.. you know.. die the moment I go past the planet's atmosphere from lack of oxygen?" Blu asked as he didn't understand how to get there in terms of logic. But the Luma had an idea of it's own that will help him reach it.
"That's not how it works for me and my kind! I can take you to mama! Just stand back, and watch me.." The Luma said as it began to spin around rapidly for a few moments.
"Transform!!!" The Luma screamed before it suddenly turned itself into what looked like a large star that was pointing directly towards the comet in the sky, going far beyond Earth and the Solar System he lived in.
"W.. what the?! H... how did you even do that?!" Blu asked with shock as he slowly walked up to the object it turned into.
"Just hop into the Launch Star, and I'll take you to mama! Do you want to go or not Blu?" The Luma asked as it remembered his name, and despite how confused Blu was about all of this still, maybe once he meets it's mother, he'll understand everything better.
"Uh.. alright?" Blu asked as he slowly flew up to the Launch Star, and he felt himself being pulled into it as it was winding itself up.
"Brace yourself! Your about to go faster then sound in just a few seconds!" The Luma said as Blu felt himself being winded up, and was about to be launched into space within seconds.
"Wait.. what?!" Blu screamed just before he was finally launched from the star at extremely fast speeds. Blu screamed with terror as he easily went past the atmosphere of the planet, and headed into the far reaches of the Solar System where the comet was. And as he flew far from the surface of the planet he was just on, being able to take in the sight of the planet from space itself, he couldn't help but ask one thing as he flew away from the home he once knew.
"What the heck.. did I just get myself into?" Blu asked as he flew through space at speeds he'd never thought he'd reach. And the only thing he could do now, was just hope that this person Blu's about to meet, can help him fix his relationship with Jewel, or everything he's worked to keep together, may never be fixed after all he went through in the Amazon..
