Work Text:
“How curious my good friend is.” You say, to an audience of none but yourself and those who are reading this text.
Kim Soleum’s form flickers on the screen, and you reach out your hand to gently trace his form as he rolls up his right sleeve, a kitchen knife in his hand.
How very curious he is! If you had been with him, perhaps you would have protested his rough treatment of himself when you could simply turn off his spotlight– but you know better now. It is simply not in his nature.
How strange it is, you think, a sense of possessiveness you did not have before rising up within you, that as long as it meant someone he cared about was in danger, he would not hesitate to sacrifice his mortal vessel.
And after he made all that fuss about yours as well.
And, however unfortunate it was, he had made his stance rather clear. And you, in turn, would wait for him to call upon you again!
If only he would not take so long.
Alas, since he had not yet acquired another “good friend” doll for the ritual, you supposed you could be patient!
Even if you could not be there, there was nothing stopping you from watching over him, was there?
You sit and enjoy the show, and you wonder whether Mr Roe Deer knows of your observation or if he still believes there is no being like you that is interested in him.
That was a bit broad; there are many whom share your nature. Those who do not truly exist in the world, your forms a whisper of a nightmare long past. But there are few like you, those whose nature is more malleable, more… formless.
After all, there are few with a title like yours. Few who wield power like yours.
And honestly, what’s the fun in being all self important? No, no, you enjoy your humble position as the host of a talk show! They wouldn’t relate to the feeling of successfully building a brand from the ground up; why should you relate to them and their power?
As you sit and watch your dear friend grill his own arm, you cannot help the smile that appears across your screen.
Really, what a specimen your good friend is. There is no one else like him; and there would not have been, if not for that.
Ah, the nuances.
You watch your dear friend sell his right arm, his two mortal companions looking horrified at the audacity you have grown fond of. Such a shame, that you are the only one who understands how special your good friend is.
You could have shown him off to the world! You were close to doing so! You were certain you could have convinced him to step on stage with you had you been allowed more time; you hadn’t wanted to strip away all the mortal qualities that made him fun by rushing.
That lizard even ruined your studio!
It had been a simple matter to rebuild it, seeing as you were who you were, but the rudeness! There was no grace in the lizard’s actions, and he had gotten between your friendship!
Even so, you cannot deny that perhaps it had been good to have a conversation with Kim Soleum, to see him stand to face you even through his fear, as he had with everything else–
You rap your fingers gently on the screen, watching as Agent Grapes soothed the child before him, showing off a functional right arm, coupons still within his hand.
He had said that he would call upon you, but he sure is taking his time, isn’t he?
No matter; you are Braun, and as long as your good friend continues to carry that coin within his pocket, as long as he continues to show you something interesting, as long as he continues to be wonderfully, lovingly human–
You will be his faithful audience.
