“Blitzo! Over here!”
Blitzo turned his head and ran excitedly over toward the little owl prince. He was glad Stolas hadn’t seen him hauling the bag of treasures over the balcony.
“Look, a sword,” Stolas chirped. “Pirates have swords.”
“Yes, they do!” Blitzo whooped. He grabbed the sword from Stolas and swung it around. “I am the mighty pirate, Captain Blitzo, and I will kill my enemies in the Great Pirate War!”
“The Great Pirate War? I don’t think I’ve heard of that war,” Stolas mused.
“Yes, the Great Pirate War,” Blitzo insisted. “I fought bravely and look, Stolas, there is so much blood everywhere!”
Stolas giggled.
“Yeah!” Blitzo continued, spurred by Stolas’ enthusiasm, “and we fought monsters too!”
“Monsters?” Did pirates fight monsters?” Stolas asked.
“Yeah, duh!” Blitzo sighed. “Like the Cracker.”
“Do you mean the mythical beast, the Kraken?” Stolas mused.
“Sure, we fight the mighty Kraken!” Blitzo shouted.
Stolas looked around the room, looking a little sad. “Well, I only have one sword. What shall I do, Blitzo? Maybe steel more treasure?” he asked, looking hopeful.
“Nah,” Blitzo scoffed. “We have all of the treasure we need.” Blitzo rubbed his face as he thought hard about what Stolas could be. “Oh, maybe you could be the monster.”
“Me?” Stolas gasped.
“Yeah, I mean, you’re not really that scary, but we could pretend you are,” Blitzo answered, eyeing Stolas carefully.
“Hmmm,” Stolas looked off into the distance. He suddenly broke out into a brilliant smile. “Oh, I know! I could transform into my eldritch form.”
“Your oldrich form?” Blitzo asked, confused.
“No, no, my eld-ritch form. My father says it’s for showing off your power and intimidating people. I never want to be intimidating, but maybe it would be a good monster?” he asked softly.
“Oooo lemmi see, lemmi see,” Blitzo cried gleefully.
“Ok!” Stolas cheered. Suddenly, Stolas’ body morphed and distorted. He grew larger, his feathers turned midnight black, his red eyes became more prominent, and he glowed red all over.
Blitzo was taken aback by the transformation, not expecting sweet, boring Stolas to turn into a real monster. He was a little frightened, remembering that the Goetia demons were powerful.
Slowly, the black mass returned to Stolas’ original size. “Well, Blitzo, what do you think?” Stolas asked nervously.
Blitzo sighed in relief. He’s still that timid prince.
“I think you look cool,” Blitzo said truthfully.
“Yeah?” Stolas asked, sounding a bit hopeful.
“Yeah!” Blitzo yelled out, swinging his sword so it pointed at his friend. “Watch out, Stolas. I’m a pirate captain, and you are a danger to my ship!”
Stolas hooted in delight. “Well, Captain Blitzo, I’m going to steal all of your treasure!”
“Not if I can help it!” Blitzo cried. He smirked as he twirled the sword around. Overzealous, he lost his grip on the sword and it clattered to the ground.
Stolas giggled. Blitzo huffed, blushing slightly with embarrassment. He picked up the sword and once again pointed it at Stolas.
“Be gone, monster!”
Blitzo swung the sword, but Stolas quickly dodged the attack. Blitzo growled in frustration and darted after the prince. He attempted to strike Stolas again, but the owl dissipated out of the way at the last moment.
“Ugh, show off! The pirate is supposed to win,” Blitzo whined.
“Oh, sorry, right,” Stolas conceded quickly.
This time, Blizo slashed his sword, and it hit Stolas’ side. The little owl cried out and dramatically fell to the ground.
“Ah! I am mortally wounded, Captain Blitzo!” Stolas cried.
“Yes!” Blitzo cheered. “And the blood spilled everywhere as the beast cried out in pain.”
Stolas wiggled around on the ground and moaned for effect. “I draw my last breath. Never have I seen a more formidable pirate than Captain Blitzo.” He then let out a gasping last breath and closed his eyes, his tongue sticking out of his beak.
Blitzo broke out into a fit of giggles, and Stolas slowly opened his eyes and joined in laughing and rolling around with glee.
“Oh, Blitzo, that was so much fun!” Stolas rasped as he tried to catch his breath from laughing so hard.
“Yeah, it was,” Blitzo smiled, puffing out his chest with pride. “I come up with the best games.”
“You certainly do,” Stolas readily agreed. “Perhaps, we could try something else?”
“What do you want to do?” Blitzo asked.
“Well, there is this really cool tree I want to show you.” Stolas slowly stood, still in his eldritch form, which made the effort look a little silly to Blitzo.
A tree?
Blitzo deflated a bit; he had been having fun. Well, he supposed it was the prince’s turn to pick the next game, even if it was boring.
“Oh, well, ok,” Blitzo shrugged, unsure of just how cool a tree could be.
“Great! We can fly there now,” Stolas said excitedly.
Blitzo raised an eyebrow. “Fly? I can’t–”
Before Blitzo could explain that he couldn’t fly, Stolas took off into the air and scooped the little imp into his arms, flying out of the palace from the balcony.
“Wow, Stolas, you can fly!” Blitzo squealed as they soared over the palace grounds. Stolas giggled.
Soon, they came upon a massive tree. Even Blitzo had to admit, it was a cool tree.
Stolas gently lowered Blitzo to the ground and returned to his usual owl self.
“That is a big tree, Stolas,” Blitzo whistled.
“Yes, it is,” Stolas nodded. “It's been here since the beginning of Hell. Father told me that Lucifer himself planted it here. For Father’s loyalty.”
“That’s so cool,” Blitzo replied, looking up at the tree with stars in his eyes. “I’m going to climb it. Want to join me?
Stolas slowly shook his head. “No, I’m a bit tired. I’ve never stayed in my eldritch form for so long before. I think I want to sit and read.”
“Suit yourself,” Blitzo shrugged. “How about I show you how I can swing upside down with just my tail!”
Stolas sat down against the tree trunk and pulled out his grimoire as Blitzo began to climb the tree.
“You are so amazing, Blitzo,” Stolas smiled.
