The Valar through the ages

Chapter 15: Estë

Chapter Text

4th age of Arda

Estë had been worried when Manwë called for her. The last time he specifically called for her, and her alone, it was to warn her that they were going to war and her services were required.

Needless to say, she dearly hoped, for the world, that this would never be the case again.

And she was relieved to know that no. This was not the case.

This was to tell her that they allowed mortals to enter Valinor, for they had been wounded by a tool crafted by Mairon, and yet were instrumental at keeping that tool out of the fallen maia's reach and seeing it destroyed.

They alas were wounded in fëa as well as in body, and if the air of Valinor itself would help, they would require her services still.

Estë was thrilled.

She barely had the chance to meet mortals during the War of Wrath, and later, the Numenoreans weren’t people she had wanted to meet when they dared try to invade their land, but now…

Now she’d meet two.

Manwë let her know what he knew.

Alas Manwë didn’t know a thing about healing or about darkness, so he could describe neither the craft of Mairon that injured the mortals so, nor the wounds left behind.

On the other hand, she knew who would be able to help her.

Estë left Manwë’s side when she was dismissed, and went straight to Vairë.

The other Valië was waiting for her:

“I was wondering when you would arrive.” Vairë said with a smile.

“I came for the tapestries about the two mortals coming to our land.”

Vairë did even better than leading her to the tapestries. She opened her being to her and showed her what she had been given to know.

“Oh! Oh that is… That is truly nasty. Oh that maia!”

“He was a great Maia once. He fell deep into darkness for his love of our brother.”

Estë snorted.

“I’m not sure that either of those two know what love is. Obsession certainly however.”

Vairë tilted her head.

“I wouldn’t know.”

“No. I suppose none of us will ever know in truth.”

Estë nodded: “It’s not for us to know. But I thank you for the information. Now I know exactly what happened, and I can start thinking of ways to heal those poor mortals.”

“It’s always a pleasure to help.”
