Chapter 1: Teenage Ghost Kings, Paperwork and Parents

Chapter Text

When Danny first became ‘The Ghost King’ he hadn't thought there would be so much paperwork.

He had only gained the title at fifteen and while his first action after finding out he was now the King of The Infinite Realms as a sophomore was to promptly flip his-and his friend’s collective shits, (Sam still comments on how long it took for Danny to remember that he still had to breath in his human form (he had been purple by the time he did).

Being a King was not something Danny had ever wanted and he had made that known trying to find every-any loophole to release him from the burden of The Realms, finding nothing had truly felt like a second death to him, it felt like losing more of his humanity, more of his time to be alive and coming to terms with the title had only made him feel bitter the King was meant to protect the Realm and his very core had pulled him toward accepting the coronation and going through the crowning with very little reluctance. The influence of his own core had made him feel as though he was losing his mind.

His second and much more Kingly action was to announce that ghosts coming in through the portal in his parent's basements would no longer be acceptable. He didn't make a royal decree and he never wanted to, he hated having the power to bend peoples will to his bidding it made him feel too much like an all-powerful being and much less like a teenager, but he couldn't have any more ghosts attacking Amity it was becoming his full-time job, stopping attacks on any given day.

The third and arguably most controversial was bringing The Infinite Realms into the modern age after The Observants decided it was time for him to start his duties as King they sat him in his royal office (He still couldn't believe he had an office much less a royal one) and dumped piles of paperwork to start on that Pariah Dark never completed in his time as King, which left Danny with work from many millennia beforehand, (if he didn't have a reason to resent Pariah Dark before he certainly did now.) with this paperwork in mind, he enlisted the help of Tucker and Technus to digitalize and organize the contracts, bindings, requests and the million other categories there seemed to be.

This change was not an easy one to make, The Observants were extremely against the idea of the digitization of these ancient forms, however the actual Ancients were surprised and quite impressed with the incitive the young King was taking and with this impression came the Ancients training.

Balancing school and Phantom had been difficult for Danny; from the dark circles on his too pale skin, his sunken cheeks and slouched shoulders he looks more corps than boy, but now as the King he had many more responsibilities on his plate taking care of the Realms and himself has been a struggle even now with the attacks being halted, so when the Ancients decided that it was time to start his training he had reasonably (from his point of view) argued against the change, however after a month of debating the matter he inevitably caved.

Which leads him here getting his ghostly ass kicked by Pandora two years later in The Realms. Though this time he brought it upon himself, he wanted to take out his frustration from his parents out in an efficient way he just forgot how much that efficient way hurt.

landing on his back pain spreading throughout his body from the hit he just took from Pandora and her sword.

“Geez Dora, are you trying to kill me fully!” he huffed eyes clenched shut.

“Apologies my Lord you were doing so well I had forgotten this was a practice spar.” Pandora in all her strength stood above him staring down on his quickly recovering body.

Hearing this praise Danny lifts his head from the floor eyes wide in excitement.

“Really! You think I was doing well.” he exclaims climbing to his feet.

“Of course, my Lord you have improved much since you died.” Pandora praises.

Danny blushes green, he had been thinking the same but didn’t want to say so afraid he was just imagining improvement

“Thank you, Dora, I appreciate it especially from you. I think it's time I called it quits for the day I have to go home and start packing.”

While Danny’s parents have been large source of his frustration even before he became Phantom, but he had never really hated them. Their disregard for his people had hurt him and the fact that he would never be safe in their home and the fact that they would hate him if they ever found out he was Phantom, but he had never hated them, but with today's news from them he definitely resents them a little more than before.

They were moving to New York.

Small town Danny was moving to this huge city in a week, small town Danny whose entire death had been protecting this town was moving, and he was to say the least, not excited.
