Mac Requests from Tumblr

Summary:

I had requests open on my Tumblr (I go by the same username) and I decided to compile them here on my AO3

Notes:

Request: OMGOMG I have a request!
What do you think Mac would be like with a TikTok, instagram reels, brain rot obsessed s/o. I'm talking constantly quoting audios, memes, asking "did you watch the video I sent you?" "Have you seen the one where..."
I feel like prior to realization it was easier for Mac to keep up with all of the niche references since they had access to the web, but after they have a hard time keeping up

Chapter Text

  • The fact that we canonically doomscroll in game (even when we had the dateviators) was always so funny to me
  • Mac may find it odd at times but loves you and will try their best to understand everything you quote
  • 100% Mac could keep up with you when they were still a computer
  • Mac loves anytime you two interface so your doomscrolling/ brain rot sessions are not a bother to them
  • Though I feel like since the videos were not explicitly stored into their CPU then even as a computer they will rely on context clues to realize you are quoting something, do a quick internal search to jot their memory, then be able to understand your reference or new use of internet slang
  • When you are on TikTok/Instagram/ YouTube they are also watching, but your reactions are what they focus on not the video, Mac just loves looking at you
  • Sometimes Mac may even have an internal side tab they are doing something on
  • Even as a computer I don’t think Mac keeps up with trending memes, brain rot, and/or internet controversy (they literally used the word ‘download’ as “hip internet centric slang” like Mac no. 💀)
  • They mostly search up tech related things, often spending time in specific online forums and occasionally engages in a flame war
  • (Honestly knowing its canon Mac is into crypto and gets involved in flame wars has me worried they go into certain unsavory forums like 4chan or Reddit 😭)
  • When they are realized and now have you sending them TikToks, Instagram reels, or YouTube shorts it reeeaaaallllyyy depends on how many you send
  • A handful? They can keep up with your daily batch of new things for them to watch
  • If you send A LOT, then I’m sorry but they may start falling behind, Mac is almost always in front of a screen BUT they don’t have doomscrolling sessions often
  • Mac may start having to schedule a time in the day to watch your videos in order to keep up
  • A surefire way to make sure they see something is to be next to them and show them the videos as you scroll
  • If not then when you quote something they will ask if its from ‘one of those viral videos’ and ask to see the video
  • If you tell them you already sent it to them then Mac gets a bit awkward, they will definitely apologize but at least now you two can watch it together
  • BUT I do not see each video landing for them, though they see how someone can find it funny and will watch them for you
  • Mac always smiles when you show them a meme or brain rot but asking for their thoughts usually end in
  • “Did you get it/ find it funny”, “Not personally/particularly but I see where others can find the humor in it”
  • It’s rare for them to laugh at brain rot/ memes
  • They are so old school they love the basics, funny animal videos and maybe the occasional ‘epic’ fail (as proof by their love of keyboard cat)
  • When they occasionally do get your reference they smile and try to play along
  • “Very humorous!”
  • “Yes exactly like that video”
  • “That’s from the …… yes that one!”
  • Sometimes Mac tries to quote another video they feel relates (and to prove they do watch what you send them) but they quote it or get the tone wrong
  • Both as a computer and human Mac will always interrupt your sessions with reminders to rest your eyes

TLDR; Mac is chronically online but in a different sense, if their partner is obsessed with TikTok, instagram reels, and/or brain rot then you or them have to put in some legwork to make sure they keep up
