Work Text:

Part I

Once upon a time there was a girl. Her parents were rich as roses, with thorns to match.
This girl was named Crystal and she wasn\'t a rose, but she was precious.
She grew sharp edges to survive. She could cut through any vine. She wasn\'t happy, but she was fierce.

Part II

Once upon a time there was a dragon.
sometimes a demon, sometimes a man,
but what he truly was in his heart was a dragon, because he hungered for precious things above all else.
He saw Crystal and thought she was the best of treasures, because she glittered and she cut, and he took her.

Part III

But two noble knights came and rescued Crystal from the dragon
and they fled across the world to do good deeds and grow. Crystal learned to use her edges to cut evil out.
But the thing about dragons is that they always come back.
When the dragon came back for the treasure that he thought was his, Crystal called on the roots of her family tree to bury him alive. And that worked, for a time. But dragons can dig and they can claw their way out, and that is true.
But one other thing is true. Crystal and her family tree are too strong to be hurt by the claws of a dragon.
I believe it, and it is true. I am telling the story, and it is true.
I have decided this, and it is true.
