Chapter Text
He’d been staring at the wall for the past half hour.
Insomnia was not something unknown to Marvin. He considered it a factor of his daily routine.
He was sitting on the edge of his bed, feet against the carpet, hands braced against the mattress. His fingers massaged the plush foam in an idle movement.
The clock kept ticking louder. He still felt a little nauseous.
He could still feel her hands running down his back, her hot breath all too warm against his neck. He'd squeezed his eyes sharply shut and waited for her to peel herself off of him. He'd showered, incessantly scrubbing at his skin, the soap lathering up and gathering at his feet.
The clock’s ticking echoed in the quiet of the room, an insistent and never-ending repetition of the same thing.
Unchanging. Stuck. It’s simply the way it was built.
Trina shuffled around behind him, stifling whatever stinging sat behind his eyes.
She had a way of looking at people.
If her gaze were something you could hold within your hands, the intensity would seep out from between your fingers. You could feel her eyes boring into your skull.
“Marvin?”
Her voice was soft, sweet, and riddled with sleep, and the last thing he wanted to hear.
The word hung heavy between them. Marvin's inner tension protruded outward into the way he mumbled his response.
“Go back to sleep.” He replied softly.
He slouched forward, now holding his face in his hands. Calloused fingertips pressed against the temples of his skull.
If he squeezed hard enough, he could probably break through the skin and tangle his fingers into the strands of his nervous system.
He let out a long sigh. The blankets shifted once more, and his silent hope that his wife had just turned over and done as he'd asked her was shattered as he felt it.
Her slender hand was gently stroking his back, following the curve of his spine.
His throat tightened, along with his fingers.
“Baby,” Marvin glanced back over his shoulder at her. She had propped herself up on one of her arms, brown curls falling gently against her pale shoulders.
He imagined he had a much clearer view of her than she did of him. His eyes had adjusted to the dull black of the bedroom.
“Just go back to sleep, okay?”
His request felt empty, along with the term of endearment. It rolled off his tongue as naturally as he had trained it to do.
Trina's eyes were set on him for a moment longer before she seemed to find herself and dropped her hand from his back. “Goodnight.” She offered him, before turning onto her side, her back facing the man.
His blank stare found its favourite spot on the wall once again.
Her lack of conscious presence in his wallowing was somewhat of a comfort.
God forbid she sees him like this. It would only lead to more questions. More insistence on conversation, which was frankly unnecessary.
How his fingers itched to hold onto the sort of figure he’d dream about. Even just lying beside him.
Just for a night.
Chapter Text
He’d been gently tracing his fingers along the curve of Whizzer's spine for the past half-hour.
Blue eyes rested on the head of short brown hair, mussed up, adorning the head that lay against him.
Marvin’s mind was solely focused on the man snuggled up to his side. The man who had finally decided on a position to sleep in, it seemed.
Whizzer tossed and turned and shifted about throughout the night, sometimes moving into Marvin’s arms, and sometimes ending up with a limb flung off the side of the bed. It was all incredibly hot and innocent.
He could still feel the lingering soft ache in his hip bones from where Whizzer had been gripping. His breath was now softly fanning against the skin of Marvin's chest in even intervals. There was a comfort in the knowledge that when Whizzer was asleep like this against him, he could take all the time in the world to just sit and admire.
He really loved Whizzer. Marvin understood that a little better now.
Cars on the streets below shot past, the sound of passing traffic muffled from their serenity in the apartment. Marvin had dimmed the light to the lowest setting he could, not ready to swallow the room in darkness just yet. It would be harder to look at Whizzer in such lighting.
His calloused fingers traced up to the back of his neck before carding into the short brown locks that sprouted there. He leaned down, planting a gentle kiss on that brown mop of hair.
Whizzer stirred, though he didn't open his eyes. Marvin was unsure how conscious he really was, feeling the man nuzzle a small kiss against his jaw before rolling off him to lie on his back.
The now-present lack of someone to hold was made up for by the view. The sight of that tanned chest rising and falling.
That body that he’d grown so familiar with the sight and feel of. His fingers had mapped those muscles, his lips familiar with which spots could draw a sigh from his lover’s mouth if kissed correctly.
The sight of that head of brown hair, the strands that often seemed to flop against his forehead when he moved.
A soft appreciative huff left Marvin's nose. He let himself smile.
Whizzer wasn’t awake to catch him and tease at the sight of his boyfriend grinning like an idiot, and he’d take every second of that he could get.
His fingers flicked a strand of hair off his boyfriend's forehead. He was eternally grateful that he was all his.
Whizzer's eyes did open at that small action, even if they were bleary as anything. He shifted his head a little to look at Marvin.
What followed was a slow blink, which Marvin would like to think was done in the same way a cat showed affection. In reality, it was probably an external showcase of confusion. A thought that followed something along the lines of ‘why the fuck is he still awake?’
“Go back to sleep.” Marvin murmured, his hand returning to his side to lie against the rumpled bedsheets.
Whizzer continued to silently judge the fact that he was still awake, though his eyes did soften a fraction at the sound of Marvin's voice.
He lifted an arm, silently inviting him to lie under it.
Marvin gave a glance towards the clock. It was late. He had work in the morning. He could use the motivation to actually get some shut-eye.
He let out a soft sigh, the noise quietly muffled by the shuffling of bedsheets as he moved.
With a soft dip of the mattress, Marvin snuggled in beside him, draping an arm over the taller man's stomach. He gave the tanned skin of his chest a gentle brush of a kiss before resting his head against it.
Whizzer rolled over to accommodate him, pulling Marvin in closer against him.
It only took a few seconds before Marvin felt those familiar fingertips brushing into his brown curls, tucking his head a little more against him. “Need a haircut,” He mumbled. “S’too long.”
“Yeah?” He whispered back, his eyes drooping under the exhaustion of the day that had finally begun to settle in.
“Mhm…” Whizzer hummed quietly, deciding against starting a proper conversation. He didn’t want to slip out of that state of being half-conscious in case he couldn’t fall back asleep afterwards.
Marvin, apparently now falling into that state, made his own decision to end things there as well.
“Goodnight.” The word left his throat in a murmur, only loud enough that Whizzer would’ve had to be snuggled up to him, like so, to hear. Marvin found he didn't mind what position Whizzer settled into in the end.
It was just swell to lie beside him for the night.
