Chapter Text
GEORGIA, ATLANTA (JUNE 2017)
The sound of Joe Russo's voice echoed across the set. "Cut! Fuck, Chris, that's the fifth time. Let's try again."
Tom Holland winced from his position behind the monitors. He'd finished his Spider-Man scenes hours ago but had stuck around, partly because he enjoyed watching Chris Hemsworth work. Something was fascinating about the way the Australian usually commanded attention on set. Today, however, was different.
The assistant director called for quiet, and they reset. Tom could see the tension in Chris's shoulders, the way his jaw clenched between takes. Something was off. When the cameras rolled again, Chris delivered the complicated line of technobabble perfectly, but his eyes lacked their usual sparkle.
"That's a wrap on Hemsworth for today," Joe called out, not bothering to hide the relief in his voice.
Chris didn't wait for the customary thanks to the crew. He nodded, turned on his heel, and stormed off toward the costume department to get his costume removed. Several crew members exchanged glances, but no one said anything.
Tom made his way to the main production vehicle lot, where the drivers waited. He had an idea.
"Mind if I catch a ride with Chris back to the hotel?" Tom asked the driver, a striking young Lebanese man named Tony, who had been shuttling them around Atlanta for weeks.
"No problem, Mr Holland. He should be out any minute."
Tom leaned against the black SUV, scrolling through his Instagram without really seeing it. When Chris finally emerged, his face was like thunder. He'd changed into civilian clothes - a tight black t-shirt and jeans.
"Rough one today?" Tom ventured as Chris approached.
Chris's eyes flicked up, registering surprise. "What are you still doing here?"
"Waiting for you, actually." Tom pushed himself off the car. "Thought you might want some company."
"I'm shit company right now, mate." Chris reached for the door handle.
"All the more reason not to be alone." Tom stepped closer, lowering his voice. "Look, going back to an empty hotel room to stew isn't going to help. We could grab a drink or something?"
For a moment, Tom thought Chris would refuse. The older actor stared at him, jaw working, before his shoulders slumped slightly.
"Fine," he muttered. "Could use the distraction. But don't expect me to be chatty."
They climbed into the backseat of the SUV, a careful distance between them.
Tony dropped them at the hotel entrance, and they made their way through the lobby in silence. The elevator ride was equally quiet, just the soft hum of machinery and Chris occasionally clearing his throat. Tom stole glances at him, noticing the way his brow remained furrowed, eyes focused on nothing in particular.
When they reached Chris's door, Tom hesitated. Chris swiped his keycard and pushed the door open, then glanced back. "You coming in or what?" he asked.
Tom followed him into the suite, which was far larger than his own. Chris immediately headed for the mini-fridge, pulled out two beers, and tossed one across the room. Tom caught it with a quick reflex, the cold glass sending a chill through his palm.
"Nice catch, Spider-Man," Chris said, the ghost of a smile playing at his lips before vanishing again.
They settled onto the plush sofa, Chris kicking his feet up on the coffee table while Tom sat cross-legged, angled toward the older actor. The TV remained off, the room quiet except for the soft hiss as they both cracked open their beers.
After a long pull from his bottle, Tom decided to break the silence. "So are you going to tell me what's going on? You've been distracted all week."
Chris took another swig, his throat working as he swallowed. "It's nothing."
"Doesn't seem like 'nothing' to me," Tom pressed, watching Chris's profile, the way the muscle in his jaw twitched.
Chris turned to meet his gaze, something unreadable in his blue eyes. "I've had something on my mind for a while," he admitted, then looked away. "But now's not the time."
"Is it the dialogue? Because I know those tech terms are a mouthful."
"It's not the fucking lines," Chris interrupted, setting his beer down with more force than necessary. "Sorry, mate. It's just..." He ran a hand through his hair, leaving it more dishevelled than before.
The apology hung in the air between them. Tom leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees, still holding his beer loosely between his fingers.
"Whatever it is, I'm a pretty good listener," he offered, trying to keep his tone light. "And I'm told I give decent advice. For a kid, anyway."
Chris's eyes flicked to his face again, lingering this time. There was an intensity to his gaze that made Tom's skin prickle with awareness.
"You're not a kid," Chris said quietly. He shifted on the sofa, turning his body to face Tom more directly. "The director kept feeding me this new page today, and it's garbage... you're right, the lines are an issue"
"Want to practice?" Tom said, almost too fast. "Sometimes saying them out loud with someone helps."
Chris looked at him for a long second, as if trying to see through the earnest face to whatever Tom was hiding beneath. Then he patted Tom's thigh with one of his giant hands. "Sure. Gimme the script."
They spent a few minutes doing a scene, with Chris stretching his arm behind Tom during this. Tom played it straight at first, but every time Chris stumbled on the rewritten dialogue, Tom snuck in a joke, culminating in an improvised Joe Russo impression that had Chris snorting with laughter.
"You're naughty," Chris said.
Tom could feel himself blushing. "You think so?"
"Yeah. Good. Film sets need a little chaos... and so do I."
The air in the room seemed to shift. Tom became acutely aware of how close they were sitting, of the weight of Chris's arm stretched behind him. His heart picked up speed.
Chris set the script down, his eyes never leaving Tom's face. "Can I tell you something?"
Tom nodded, not trusting his voice.
"I've noticed how you are around me," Chris said, his voice dropping lower. "The little compliments. The way you look at me when you think I'm not paying attention."
Heat flooded Tom's face. He'd thought he'd been subtle, but apparently not. "I..."
"No, it's okay," Chris continued, shifting closer. Their knees touched. "Truth is, I've been doing the same thing. Watching you. Finding excuses to be near you."
Tom's mouth went dry. This moment couldn't be happening. Chris Hemsworth couldn't possibly be saying what it sounded like he was saying.
"Look, I should probably tell you something," Chris said, running a hand through his hair. "Elsa and I... we have an arrangement. Had it for years. As long as I'm honest about it, I can be with other people sometimes. When I'm away filming."
Tom's pulse hammered in his ears. "Are you saying what I think you're saying?"
Chris's eyes darkened. He leaned in, close enough that Tom could feel his breath. "I've been wanting to do this for weeks."
Then Chris's mouth was on his, hot and insistent. Tom froze for a split second before melting into the kiss, his hands finding their way to Chris's shoulders.
Without breaking the kiss, Chris stood, hauling Tom up with him. He lifted Tom like he weighed nothing and carried him to the king-sized bed, dropping him onto the mattress.
"Chris," Tom gasped as the larger man crawled over him.
"I've been thinking about this since we first met," Chris murmured, his fingers reaching for the hem of Tom's shirt. He pushed the fabric aside, his palms hot against Tom's skin.
Tom arched into the touch, his head spinning. Chris's mouth trailed down his neck, teeth grazing his collarbone. Each touch sent sparks through his body.
"Is this okay?" Chris asked, pausing to look into Tom's eyes.
"God, yes," Tom breathed. "Please don't stop."
Chris grinned, a predatory flash of teeth, before returning to his task of undressing Tom. He'd gotten the shirt off, and now his eyes darkened at the sight of the evident bulge in his jeans.
"Fuck, look at you," Chris growled. He stripped off his own shirt, revealing the sculpted torso that had launched millions of masturbation sessions across the globe.
Tom couldn't help but stare. He'd seen Chris shirtless before, of course - everyone had - but never quite like this.
Tom squirmed, hips canting forward against Chris's monster thigh. He was already so hard it hurt, straining the seam of his jeans. Chris noticed - how could he not - and cupped Tom through the denim, slow and heavy. Tom nearly screamed.
"Shit," he gasped, already shivering.
Chris grinned, wolfish. "Sensitive, huh?"
"You have no idea," Tom breathed.
"I want to find out," said Chris, undoing Tom's jeans, sliding them down his legs. Tom kicked them off, blushing, suddenly aware of how ridiculous his Spider-Man boxers looked in this context.
Chris laughed, a real, rolling sound. "Oh mate, that's adorable."
"Shut up," Tom managed, but he couldn't stop smiling.
Chris didn't. Instead, he dropped to his knees beside the bed, leaned in, and pressed his mouth right against Tom's clothed cock. He exhaled, hot breath soaking through, then mouthed him, slow and deliberate, through the cartoon print. Tom whimpered, bucking involuntarily.
"God, you're so..." Tom didn't finish because Chris was peeling the pants down, exposing him fully. Tom was blushing all the way down, his dick was pale, uncut, and all 7.5 inches of it was throbbing - pink head wet with pre-cum.
Chris looked up, catching Tom's eye. "Beautiful," he said, and he sounded like he meant it. Then he bent and swallowed Tom whole.
Tom nearly leapt into space. He grabbed two fistfuls of bedding, mouth open in a wordless scream as Chris's throat worked around him, sucking slow and deep. Chris set a rhythm - down, up, swirl of tongue, brief tease at the tip, repeat - that was so precise it was like military discipline being applied to absolute filth.
Tom bit his knuckle, trying not to scream, but Chris was relentless, tongue rolling around the pink glans. "Fuck, fuck, fuck," Tom gasped, lost in sensation.
Chris pulled off with a wet pop. "You close?"
"Yeah. Harder, please." Tom managed, dazed.
Chris smirked, then clamped his mouth back down, this time humming low in his throat and turning up the suction with his mouth muscles. The vibration went straight through Tom's balls, and with a desperate cry, he shot. Chris swallowed every pulse hungrily. When it was over, Chris sat back, licking his lips with exaggerated gusto.
"Holy fuck," Tom whispered, staring at the ceiling, body humming like a tuning fork.
Chris crawled up beside him, one massive hand petting Tom's hair. "Fucking tasty cream you pump out there, pretty boy. You alright?"
Tom laughed, dizzy. "I'm so much better than alright, mate. I'm fucking on cloud nine right now."
Chris snorted, then leaned down to kiss him again, and Tom tasted himself on Chris's tongue. It was weird, but also weirdly hot.
They lay there a minute, catching breath. Tom realised Chris was still hard, straining against his shorts, the outline almost comic. He reached down and palmed the bulge. Chris hissed, but let him.
"You want?" Tom said, shyly, but Chris was already sliding his shorts off, Tom looking in awe at the thick nine-inch cock that appeared - mouth watering and ready to do whatever Chris wanted.
BERLIN, GERMANY (MARCH 2018)
"Jesus Christ!" Tom cried out, his back arching off the hotel mattress as his entire body convulsed.
His third orgasm hit him like a freight train, cum shooting across his chest and stomach despite having already emptied himself twice before. His legs trembled uncontrollably as Chris's massive hand continued to work his cock while two thick fingers pressed relentlessly against his prostate.
"That's it," Chris purred, his blue eyes dark with hunger as he watched Tom writhe beneath him. "Fucking beautiful", he called out as he bent down and licked great gobs of the hot cum from Tom's abs and navel.
Tom collapsed back against the sweat-soaked sheets, chest heaving, his entire body oversensitive and tingling. The Berlin hotel room spun around him, late morning sunlight filtering through half-drawn curtains and even the air conditioning couldn't clear the air dense with the scent of sweat and sex. The "Avengers: Infinity War" press junket was getting underway several floors below, oblivious to what was happening in their suite.
"I can't..." Tom gasped, his voice hoarse from shouting. "Too much, mate. I literally can't...."
But Chris didn't stop. His big, wide thumb circled the slick, swollen and aggressively pink head of Tom's overstimulated cock, gathering the obscene amount of pre-cum that continued to leak despite his body's desperate attempts to recover.
"You can, one more", Chris insisted, his Australian drawl thicker with arousal. "Look at you, still hard for me after busting three times in what... 45 minutes?"
Tom whimpered, his hips betraying him as they bucked up into Chris's grip. He'd been avoiding touching himself for days before the Berlin press tour, knowing from their previous encounters that Chris preferred him desperate and on edge.
He hadn't expected the man to test the limits of his recovery time quite this thoroughly.
"The others will be looking for us," Tom managed weakly, even as his thighs spread wider, giving Chris better access. "The... oh fuck...the Marvel handlers said we need to be downstairs in about fifteen minutes."
Chris glanced at the watch on his wrist and grinned, his expression predatory. "Plenty of time."
A sharp knock at the door cut through the room.
"Mr. Hemsworth?" A woman's voice called from the hallway. "They need you downstairs soon. Is Mr Holland with you? We can't reach him on his phone."
Chris's eyes locked with Tom's, and a slow, wicked smile spread across his face. "He's here!" Chris called back to the door, his voice impossibly steady. "We're just going over some media training notes. We'll be down in ten."
Tom bit down hard on his lower lip, his body trembling with the effort not to make a sound.
"Thank you, sir," the woman replied. "We'll see you both downstairs."
The moment her footsteps faded, Chris's mouth crashed down on Tom's, swallowing the desperate sounds that escaped him.
"We'll need about five minutes to clean up," Chris murmured as he leaned down to flick his tongue against Tom's nipple. "Let's see if we can make you cum again before we have to go down and pretend we're just colleagues."
Tom's head fell back against the pillow, a desperate laugh escaping him. "Sadist."
"You love it," Chris replied, twisting his wrist in that particular way that made Tom's toes curl.
And fuck, he did. Ever since that first desperate encounter on set in Atlanta last year, Tom had found himself addicted to the way the massive Aussie could reduce him to a trembling, begging mess with frightening ease.
LISBON, PORTUGAL (JULY 2019)
Tom couldn't sleep. The Portuguese summer heat had dissipated at night, but it lingered in the hotel. The air conditioning was not enough to clear the lingering humidity from the room. He stared at the ceiling, body restless with a familiar energy that always seemed to build during these press tours.
He grabbed his phone - 11:28 PM. Everyone would be asleep or out partying... except maybe Chris. Tom's fingers hovered over the screen, considering before he typed.
TH: "You up?"
CH: "Yeah."
TH: "Want to go for a walk?"
Three dots appeared, then disappeared. Tom wondered if Chris was already trying to find an excuse not to come.
CH: "Your room in five minutes."
When Chris knocked - softly, barely audible - Tom was already dressed in white shorts and a baby blue t-shirt. He opened the door to find Chris leaning against the frame, hair pulled back in a small bun, wearing an orange shirt and navy shorts, along with a light brown suede bomber jacket tied around his waist.
"What's this adventure then?" Chris asked, voice low.
Tom's stomach flipped. "Ice cream. I'm dying for some proper gelato. This hotel is suffocating me."
"It's the middle of the night."
"It's Lisbon in summer. Places stay open."
Chris studied him, then nodded. "Alright. Lead the way, Spider-Boy."
They head out of the back door of the hotel and into the cool Portuguese night. The air hit Tom like a caress - thick with salt from the nearby sea, heavy with the scent of flowers.
"Which way?" Chris asked.
Tom shrugged. "No idea. Let's just walk."
The streets were quiet but not empty. Couples strolled arm in arm, groups of friends spilled from late-night bars, their laughter echoing off ancient buildings. Tom felt the tension in his shoulders ease with every step away from the hotel, every step closer to Chris.
"This is nice," Chris said after they'd walked a few blocks. "Being normal people for five minutes."
Tom glanced sideways. "Are we normal people?"
"God no," Chris laughed. "But we can pretend."
They turned down a narrow street paved with worn cobblestones, buildings pressing close on either side. Old-fashioned streetlamps cast pools of golden light, and somewhere a guitar was playing.
"There," Tom pointed. A shop nestled between a closed bookstore and a bar, its windows glowing warm yellow. A hand-painted sign read "GELADO ANTONIO" in faded letters.
"Jackpot," Chris said.
The shop was empty except for an older man behind the counter, who looked up when the bell above the door jingled. His eyes widened, then crinkled with delight.
"Ah! Thor and Spider-Man! In my shop!" he exclaimed in heavily accented English, throwing his hands up. "My grandson will never believe!"
Tom smiled, immediately charmed by the man's enthusiasm. "Your shop looks amazing. What's good?"
The man - Antonio himself, it seemed - gestured to the display case of colourful gelato. "For you, a special flavour. My creation. Chocolate-orange. Very special."
Chris leaned over the glass, studying the offerings. "We call it jaffa back where I'm from. I'll try that."
"Me too," Tom added.
Antonio beamed, scooping generous portions into waffle cones. When Tom reached for his wallet, the man waved him off. "No, no. On the house. For saving the universe."
They thanked him profusely, posed for a selfie that Antonio promised was "just for family," and stepped back into the night, cones in hand.
"Oh my god," Tom moaned around his first bite. "This is incredible."
Chris nodded, already halfway through his. "Worth sneaking out for."
They wandered back toward the hotel, taking a different route, in no hurry to return. The gelato was eaten quickly before it melted; even so, traces of the dessert ran down their wrists. Tom laughed as Chris tried to lick some of the drips off with his tongue, missing completely and smearing cream across his stubble instead.
"You're a disaster," Tom said, reaching up to wipe it away with his thumb.
Their eyes met. Tom's finger lingered on Chris's face. Before he could second-guess himself, Tom grabbed Chris's not-so-messy hand and pulled him into a dark, narrow alley between two buildings.
The moment they were out of sight, Tom pressed his mouth to Chris's. The kiss tasted of chocolate and orange, cold and sweet. Chris made a surprised sound that quickly turned into a groan as Tom licked into his mouth, desperate and hungry.
"Fuck, I've missed this. Feels like an age since I last saw you over in Bali" Tom breathed against Chris's lips.
Chris's response was to back him against the rough stone wall. "You want it here? You sure?"
Tom was already palming Chris's cock through his shorts, feeling it getting rock hard under his hand. "God, yes," he whispered. "I want you to fuck me against that wall. Been thinking about you breeding me all day."
The stone wall was rough and warm, still holding the day's heat. Chris yanked Tom's shorts off and lifted him by the hips, pinning him with ridiculous ease.
He nuzzled at the younger man's neck, beard scraping, kisses bruising. Tom moaned, feeling the scrape of teeth, the wet drag of tongue, and grabbed onto Chris's arms to keep from sliding down.
"Easy," Chris said, but his hands were everywhere - slipping under Tom's shirt, twisting his nipples, palming his arse. He reached into his pocket, pulled out a small bottle of lube. "Came prepared."
He slicked Tom's hole with expert precision, then worked a finger in, slow and thick.
Tom nearly sobbed. "Fuck, Chris... please"
"Shhh," Chris said, mouth at Tom's ear, and slid a second finger in, scissoring, stretching, working Tom open in the cool night air. "Gotta make you ready, babe. Don't want to hurt you."
"You never do," Tom said.
Chris lined up, pressed the head of his cock against Tom's hole, and paused. "Still good?"
Tom gripped his shirt and pulled Chris closer. "Inside me. Now."
The first push was always a shock; the sting was followed by a deep, throbbing ache that sent Tom to heaven. Chris was thick, so much more than anyone else Tom had ever fucked, and Tom loved it, loved the challenge, loved the way Chris filled him up to the edge of pain and then stopped, waiting for Tom to adjust.
Tom shivered, legs trembling. "Okay," he gasped. "Fuck, yeah, keep going."
Chris did, slow and steady, until he was buried to the hilt. He braced Tom's back against the bricks, then started thrusting, shallow at first, then harder, the slap of skin echoing off the walls.
Tom met every stroke, hungry, moaning into Chris's neck, biting down to muffle the noise. Chris's hands held him up, steady and unyielding, and Tom wrapped his legs around Chris's waist, taking him deeper.
"God, you're perfect," Chris whispered, voice ragged. "Missed being inside you. Tightest fuck ever..." He picked up speed, and Tom felt his own cock grinding between them, leaking and dripping and so close to coming he thought he might black out.
Tom slid a hand between them, giving his own cock a few strokes, and that was all it took - he came, splattering his own shirt. One of Chris's hands quickly covered his mouth to stop Tom from crying out as his body convulsed with pleasure.
Chris fucked him through it, shuddering, then froze, buried deep, and came with a low moan. Tom felt the Aussie's scalding hot essence flood inside him, felt Chris's whole body flex and shiver, and sagged back against the wall, drained and blissed-out.
For a long moment, they stayed frozen, panting, still joined. Then reality began to seep back in - the hardness of the wall, the distant sounds, the cooling sweat on their skin.
Chris lowered him gently, both of them wincing as they separated. Tom's back stung where the stone had abraded his skin through his shirt.
"You okay?" Chris asked, already tucking himself away, helping Tom back into his shorts.
Tom nodded, dazed and grinning. "Better than okay."
They cleaned up as best they could, but there was no hiding the state of Tom's t-shirt - cum stained at the front, dirty and with a few spots of blood in the back where his skin had been scraped raw.
"Shit," Chris muttered, eyeing the damage. "Here." He picked up his jacket that had fallen to the ground during their coupling and draped it over Tom's shoulders. "Wear this."
The jacket was huge on Tom's smaller frame, but it covered the evidence. He slipped his arms into the sleeves, immediately enveloped in Chris's scent.
"Thanks," he said, suddenly shy.
They made their way back to the hotel, bumping shoulders, exchanging glances that dissolved into laughter. Tom felt light-headed with the thrill of their public encounter.
Back in the hotel in the elevator, Chris pressed Tom against the wall for one more kiss, gentle this time and almost tender.
"Worth the adventure?" Chris asked as they reached Tom's floor.
Tom grinned, feeling the pleasant ache in his body. He slid Chris's jacket off his shoulders and handed it back. "Always is with you."
Chris smiled as he took it back. He reached a hand up and stroked Tom's face. "I feel the same kid," he said.
As the elevator doors closed between them, Tom caught a glimpse of something in Chris's eyes. It was something more than their friendship with mind-blowing benefits, something that made his heart skip a beat and his stomach twist.
Was Chris falling in love with him?... No, he was a grown man. A straight man. A married man. He didn't emotionally fall for someone that easily... he couldn't. Could he? Fuck, he better not be.
That was something he would have to look into on another night. Tonight, he had the memory of chocolate-orange gelato, rough stone walls, and Chris's hands holding him, like he was both precious and unbreakable.
Understandably, he slept like the dead.
LONDON, UK (DECEMBER 2020)
Tom hadn't seen Chris in person in nearly a year. There'd been Zooms and DMs, of course, but the COVID pandemic had shut everything down throughout much of the last ten months. Now, as Christmas approached, travel remained very restricted for many people. However, certain people had privileges.
That included Chris, who called unexpectedly just after Tom had finished his morning run. Tom's phone buzzed on the kitchen counter as he gulped water, sweat still cooling on his skin.
"Hey mate," Chris's voice rumbled through the speaker, somehow sounding both casual and intense at once. "Been a while."
Tom nearly choked on his water. "Chris? Shit, hey. Where are you calling from?"
"Actually," and there was that little laugh, the one that always made Tom's stomach flip, "I'm in London. Just landed an hour ago."
Tom's eyebrows shot up. "You're in London? How the hell..."
"Private jet and a special waiver due to business reasons. Liam's with me, too. We're signing a massive deal tonight – has to be done in person, all very hush-hush big corporate stuff." Chris's voice then grew a bit huskier. "We've got the whole day to kill before the meeting. Stuck in this hotel room until then."
Tom's mouth went dry. He set his water glass down carefully.
"So," Chris continued, "we were thinking you might want to come over? Been ages since we've seen you."
The invitation hung in the air. Tom's heart hammered against his ribs, memories flooding back. His body reacted immediately to just the sound of Chris's voice, to the implication behind the words.
"You and... Liam?" Tom asked, remembering the last time he met with Chris and his brother in Los Angeles in late 2019, just before the world shut down. He caught Liam's eyes on more than one occasion, a look of hunger for Tom in the glimpses he could get before bedroom doors were closed, but also concern over his brother's behaviour around Tom.
"Yeah," Chris said, voice dropping even lower. "He's been asking about you. Possibly about fulfilling that fantasy you told me about in LA"
Tom swallowed hard. He remembered an offhand remark he had made about possibly having both brothers at once, and Chris revealing to him that they fuck around together occasionally.
"I've missed you," Chris said into the silence, and there it was – that neediness in Chris's tone that made Tom's chest tighten with both affection and unease.
"I've missed you too," Tom replied, because it was true. He had missed Chris – the sex, yes, but also just being around him. The man's laugh, his ability to make everything an adventure, was intoxicating.
"So you'll come?" There was far too much hope in that voice.
Tom hesitated, then made his decision. "Yeah. Text me the hotel details. I'll be there in an hour."
After hanging up, Tom stood in his kitchen, staring at nothing.
Part of Tom wanted to set boundaries with Chris. The man had been texting him increasingly personal questions lately, asking about his dating life, wanting to know if Tom missed him, calling drunk at 3 AM Australian time just to hear Tom's voice, and sending dick pics at odd hours. It crossed lines that Tom wasn't comfortable with, especially considering Chris's marriage.
But another part of Tom - the part currently making decisions with his other head - hadn't had sex in nearly a year thanks to the pandemic. His body thrummed with anticipation as he showered and dressed, choosing clothes that would be easy to remove. A good Hemsworth fuck was precisely what he needed to blow off steam.
Before he knew it, Tom was standing outside Chris's hotel suite door, heart hammering against his ribs. He wiped sweaty palms on his jeans and knocked.
The door swung open. Chris stood there, transformed from the last time Tom had seen him. The brown hair and beard were gone, replaced by blond hair and a clean-shaven face that made him look younger - at the same time, he'd been working out for "Thor: Love and Thunder" and had gotten huge - even by his own standards.
"Tom," Chris breathed, and yanked him inside.
Their mouths crashed together before the door even closed. Chris backed Tom against the wall, hands already under his shirt, hot palms against bare skin. Tom moaned into the kiss, tasting mint and coffee on Chris's tongue. God, he'd missed this - the overwhelming heat of Chris's body, the strength in those hands.
"Fuck, I've missed you," Chris growled against his mouth, lifting Tom slightly so their hips aligned.
Tom moaned as he felt Chris's hardness against his own, already fully erect just from kissing. He was so lost in sensation that he almost missed the throat-clearing sound from across the room.
"Don't mind me," came Liam's amused voice. "Just enjoying the show."
Tom broke away from Chris's mouth, face burning as he spotted Liam lounging on the sofa, beer in hand, watching them with undisguised interest.
"Sorry," Tom stammered, trying to push Chris back a few inches to compose himself. "I didn't... we shouldn't just..."
"Why not?" Liam stood, setting his beer aside. He was as tall but slimmer than Chris, and wearing nothing but low-slung grey sweatpants that did little to hide his own growing interest. "Been waiting for this all morning."
Chris's hands stayed firmly on Tom's waist, his breath hot against Tom's ear. "He's been dying to see you. We both have."
Tom swallowed hard, looking between the brothers. Everything narrowed to the sensation of Chris's hands on his waist and Liam's hungry gaze travelling up his body. His cock throbbed painfully against his zipper as he looked between the two brothers.
"Fuck it," Tom breathed, decision made. "Let's do this."
Chris grinned wolfishly and scooped Tom up as if he weighed nothing, strong arms cradling him against that massive chest. Tom yelped in surprise, arms wrapping around Chris's neck as the larger man carried him deeper into the room.
Liam followed close behind, his hand sliding up Tom's back, fingers curling at the nape of his neck. "Been thinking about this a while," Liam murmured, his voice a rough whisper against Tom's ear.
They moved as one unit, a tangle of limbs and desire. Chris deposited Tom onto the hotel bed and immediately hands were everywhere – tugging at his clothes, sliding beneath fabric, stroking his skin. Tom's shirt disappeared over his head, followed quickly by his jeans and boxers, leaving him naked and trembling between the two brothers.
The Hemsworths stripped with high efficiency, revealing bodies that made Tom's mouth go dry. Chris was broader, with pinker skin stretched over bulging muscles, while Liam was paler, leaner but no less defined, a swimmer's build next to his brother's heavyweight frame.
"Fuck," Tom whispered, drinking in the sight of them both fully naked. Both sporting erections that made Tom's mouth reflexively drool.
Before Tom could process what was happening, he found himself positioned on his back on the bed edge, legs in the air, and Liam's face diving below his balls. The first swipe of Liam's tongue against his hole made Tom gasp, his head slamming back against the sheets.
"Oh my god," he moaned as Liam's hands spread him wider, tongue drilling into his entrance like an Alaskan miner looking for gold.
Chris knelt on the bed, thick thighs bracketing Tom's face, his heavy cock bobbing inches from Tom's face. "I missed your mouth so much, Tommy. Will you open up for me?" Chris asked.
Tom's mouth fell open automatically, and Chris guided himself inside with a groan. The weight of him felt perfect on Tom's tongue - hot, silky skin stretched over steel, the taste of salt and musk flooding his senses. God, he missed having a big, heavy dick in his mouth. He devoured the meaty sausage with gusto.
Meanwhile, Liam worked him open with relentless focus, shoving a finger alongside his tongue, "He tastes so good," the younger Aussie murmured, his voice muffled. "I get the appeal."
Tom gagged as Chris's cock plunged deeper, hitting the back of his throat. His eyes watered, but he relaxed his jaw, taking more of the thick shaft. The taste of pre-cum flooded his mouth as Chris established a rhythm, hips pumping forward in short, controlled thrusts.
"That's it," Chris groaned, one hand tangled in Tom's hair. "Take it all for me."
Behind him, Tom felt Liam's tongue withdraw, replaced by the blunt pressure of his cock. Liam pushed in slowly at first, then with one firm thrust, buried himself to the hilt for the first time inside Tom. Tom moaned around Chris's dick, the vibrations making the older Hemsworth curse.
"Fuck, he's tight," Liam hissed, gripping Tom's hips. "How do you ever not want to be in this ass, bro?"
Chris didn't answer, too lost in the wet heat of Tom's mouth. His pace quickened, and Tom struggled to breathe through his nose as both brothers found their rhythm. The hotel room filled with the obscene sounds of skin slapping against skin, wet suction, and deep masculine groans.
Tom's mind went blank, reduced to pure sensation. Liam's cock dragged across his prostate with each thrust, sending jolts of pleasure up his spine while Chris's heavy length stretched his jaw to its limit. He was entirely at their mercy, used from both ends.
The pressure built rapidly in his groin, coiling tighter with each thrust. Tom tried to warn them he was close, but could only make muffled sounds around the cock filling his mouth.
Tom's back arched off the bed as his came, his untouched cock pulsing as he shot rope after rope of cum across his stomach and chest. He convulsed between the brothers, throat constricting around Chris's length.
"Holy shit," Liam gasped, slowing his thrusts to watch Tom's release. "Did he just—?"
"Yeah," Chris growled, his voice thick with arousal. "He does that. Several times an hour, sometimes."
Tom barely registered their words, still trembling through the aftershocks. Before he could recover, Liam pulled out completely, leaving him feeling empty and exposed. Then he felt fingers scooping up the warm cum from his stomach.
"Waste not, want not," Liam murmured, using Tom's release to slick his own cock and Tom's hole before pushing back in with a single smooth thrust.
The sensitivity was almost too much. Tom whimpered around Chris's dick, tears leaking from the corners of his eyes. But the pain quickly melted back into pleasure as Liam resumed his pace, somehow hitting his prostate even more directly than before.
"I'm close," Chris warned, his rhythm becoming erratic. "Fuck, Tom..." Chris's voice caught as he pulled out suddenly, his cock pulsing as thick ropes of cum splashed across Tom's face and chest.
Tom gasped at the sudden emptiness in his mouth, eyes flying open just in time to catch a hot splash across his lips and cheek. Chris groaned, one hand working his shaft frantically while the other held Tom's head steady. Each pulse painted Tom's skin with another streak of white, some landing in his still-open mouth, the rest decorating his chin, neck and chest like a Jackson Pollock artwork.
Before Tom could process what was happening, Chris pushed back into his mouth, the head of his cock sliding between Tom's lips, still leaking the last pulses of his orgasm.
"Swallow it," Chris commanded, voice hoarse. "All of it, my pretty boy."
Tom obeyed, throat working as he drank down what remained, the familiar taste flooding his senses. Chris watched him with half-lidded eyes, chest heaving, his expression almost reverent as Tom licked his lips clean.
A movement caught Tom's eye. He looked up past Chris's towering form to see Liam leaning over, fingers scooping through the mess on Tom's chest. With deliberate slowness, Liam brought his cum-slicked fingers to his mouth and sucked them clean, his eyes locked on Tom's the entire time.
"Mmmm," Liam groaned, tasting the mingled essence of his brother and Tom. "That's fucking yummy."
The sight of Liam tasting their combined release sent a fresh jolt of arousal through Tom's oversensitive body. His hole clenched involuntarily around Liam's still-thrusting cock, drawing a surprised gasp from the younger Hemsworth.
"Shit, I'm gonna..." Liam's rhythm faltered, driving in one final time. Tom felt the hot pulse of Liam's release flooding him, filling him up from the inside while his brother's seed cooled on his skin.
Liam collapsed forward, his forehead pressed against Tom's cum-streaked stomach, breath coming in ragged pants. For a long moment, the only sound in the room was their collective breathing and the air conditioning, three bodies coming down from an impossible high.
With a groan, Liam finally pulled out, leaving Tom empty and leaking. The three of them shifted, limbs heavy and uncoordinated, until they were sprawled across the massive hotel bed. Tom found himself sandwiched between the brothers, his head resting on Chris's chest while Liam's arm draped heavily across his waist.
Chris rolled toward him first, one large hand cupping Tom's jaw, turning his face. Their eyes met, and Tom saw Chris's gaze filled with a look of 'mine' before the larger man leaned in and kissed him, his tongue sweeping into Tom's mouth, tasting himself there.
When they broke apart, Tom felt a flutter of concern. That look wasn't the usual post-orgasmic gaze; it was one of intense possessiveness.
"Fucking epic," Liam said from his other side, stretching like a satisfied cat. "Worth flying halfway around the world for during a pandemic."
Tom laughed, grateful for the break in the tension. "Glad I could be of service."
Chris's hand was still on Tom's face, thumb tracing his lower lip.
A phone rang, startling them all. Chris groaned, reaching for his mobile on the nightstand.
"Fuck," he muttered, glancing at the screen. "I have to take this. It's about the meeting tonight." He pressed the phone to his ear as he climbed off the bed, his free hand lingering on Tom's shoulder a beat too long. "Yeah, hello?" he said, walking into the adjoining room and closing the door behind him.
Tom exhaled slowly, feeling the mattress shift as Liam propped himself up on one elbow.
"You alright?" Liam asked, his voice lower and less rough than his brother's.
"Yeah," Tom nodded, suddenly aware of how sticky he was. "Just... processing."
Liam reached for a box of tissues on the nightstand and handed them to Tom. "Here. You look like you've been glazed."
"Cheers," Tom laughed, wiping at the cooling mess on his chest and face.
They cleaned up in comfortable silence for a moment. Tom could hear the muffled sound of Chris's voice through the door, talking some sort of business as if he hadn't just been balls-deep in Tom's throat minutes earlier.
The younger Hemsworth was studying Tom's face with an intensity that made him want to look away. "So," he said quietly, "we should probably talk about my brother."
Tom's stomach tightened. "What about him?"
"Come on, mate. You've seen how he looks at you." Liam's voice was gentle but direct. "It's long past just fucking for him anymore."
Tom stared at the ceiling. "I know," he admitted. "I've been trying to ignore it, but..."
"It's getting worse," Liam finished for him. "The texts, the calls. He talks about you constantly, you know. Even to Elsa."
Tom winced. "Shit. Really?"
"Yeah. I mean, she knows they have an arrangement, but there's a difference between hookups and..." Liam trailed off.
"And whatever this is becoming," Tom said, the weight of the situation settling heavily in his chest. "I'm genuinely worried, Liam. I never meant for it to get this deep. It was just supposed to be fun, you know? It is to me, but to him..."
Liam nodded, his expression sombre. "I know. And that's on him, not you. But the kids are starting to notice something's off, too. He's distracted all the time, head in the clouds somewhere."
Tom's throat tightened. "What should I do? How do I step back without hurting him?"
Liam sighed, rubbing his chin in a gesture very similar to his brother's.
"Honestly? At some point, you're probably going to have to break it off completely." Liam's voice was kind but firm. "Cold turkey. It'll hurt him, but dragging it out will only make things worse."
Tom nodded, feeling sick. "Yeah. I was afraid you'd say that."
"Look, that's up to you, though. I'm not telling you what to do." Liam placed a reassuring hand on Tom's arm. "I'll help however I can, whatever you decide. Chris is my brother, and I love him, but this isn't healthy in the long term for anyone involved."
Tom nodded, the weight of the conversation hanging between them. Tom could still hear Chris on the phone, his voice rising and falling in the other room.
"For now, though," Liam added, his tone lightening slightly, "we've still got a few hours before our meeting. Might as well enjoy them, yeah?"
Tom felt a smile tug at his lips despite the heaviness in his chest. "Yeah. You're right."
He studied Liam's face – so similar to Chris's yet subtly different. The same strong jawline, but softer somehow. The same blue eyes, but without that intensity that sometimes unnerved Tom. Before he could second-guess himself, he asked, "Can I suck your dick?"
Liam's eyebrows shot up, then he grinned. "Mate, you never have to ask twice for that."
Tom moved down the bed, settling between Liam's legs. He'd just taken Liam into his mouth when Chris walked back in.
For one moment, nobody moved. Then Chris's eyes darkened, his expression shifting from surprise to something hungrier. "Don't stop on my account," he said, his voice a low rumble as he approached the bed.
Soon enough, Chris was inside Tom and thoroughly enjoying how Tom was getting off on Chris "playing sloppy seconds to my younger brother" as he put it.
"Pump it, froth up my cum inside him, big bro" Liam added as the sheer debauchery continued for hours in that room. Still, Tom knew that soon enough, maybe sooner than he was comfortable with, things would end... and end in pain.
HONOLULU, HAWAII (JUNE 2021)
The sand was still warm beneath Tom's thighs as he dug his toes deeper, watching grains spill over his feet. Queens Beach stretched out before him, mercifully quiet compared to the tourist chaos along the main stretch of Waikiki. He had chosen this spot deliberately - far enough from the resorts that he likely wouldn't be recognised, close enough to civilisation that he could grab an Uber to get away if needs be.
He'd already downed a blue cocktail half an hour ago for liquid courage, chastising himself at the same time because he was aware that his relationship with alcohol was becoming a problem.
The sunset was a fever dream of purple bleeding into fuchsia, orange, and molten gold. The silhouettes of palm trees swayed overhead, fronds rustling like whispers. Tom inhaled, tasting salt and trying to commit these pleasant few seconds of quiet to memory. He'll need them again soon.
He heard footsteps crunching in the sand nearby, and his stomach clenched. He didn't need to turn to know who it was - those heavy, confident strides belonged to only one person. As they approached, Tom could sense a shift as the feet slowed. Chris knew him well enough to read that something was off.
"Hey there," came Chris's familiar voice, warm and rich as aged scotch but also with a hesitancy not normally there.
Tom looked up. Chris softly grinned at him, looking impossibly golden in a pair of khaki shorts and a forest-green polo shirt, the wind dancing across the blond highlights in his mostly dark-brown short hair.
Chris's body had been huge during the last "Thor," but today he was slowly deflating back to his more regular, slimmer form. His face had a healthy tan and a light beard, his crow's feet deepening slightly around his eyes as he smiled down at Tom.
"Hey," Tom said, trying to smile but falling short.
Chris faltered. "Now I know something's wrong"
Tom patted the sand beside him. "Sit down, yeah?"
Chris lowered himself onto the beach, long legs stretching out beside Tom's. Their shoulders brushed, and Tom fought the urge to lean into the familiar warmth, to grasp the man's hand and to lose himself in those soft lips and that hard body.
"Where are Elsa and the kids?" Tom asked, stalling.
"Back home," Chris said, picking up a handful of sand and letting it sift through his fingers. "They're in Byron Bay. I was in LA for that Netflix thing, and then I heard about you being here for a promo shoot..." He hesitated, then continued with a hint of shyness that seemed out of place on someone so massive. "I managed to get a layover here tonight, for us. My flight leaves tomorrow afternoon."
The "for us" hung in the air between them. Tom stared at the horizon, where the sun was descending into the Pacific. Chris had stopped off here deliberately for him, probably calling in a favour or two, blissfully unaware that Tom had been planning this conversation for even longer than the six months since they and Liam hooked up in London.
"That's... that's really nice," Tom said, the words catching in his throat, guilt leaving a bitter aftertaste in his throat.
Chris studied him, then scooted closer, their thighs touching now. "Tom, what's going on? You're scaring me."
Tom took a deep breath, tasting the salt air. "Chris..." He stopped, swallowed, and pushed forward. "This isn't working anymore."
The words tumbled out before he could stop them, and he felt Chris go rigid beside him. Tom forced himself to keep looking at the water, the waves catching the slowly fading light like shimmering gold.
"What do you mean?" Chris's voice had gone flat, careful.
Tom's chest tightened. He'd rehearsed this moment dozens of times in his head, but now that it was happening, every prepared word felt inadequate. "I mean... us. Whatever this is we've been doing."
Chris was quiet for a long moment. Tom could feel the tension radiating from his body, along with the change in his breathing. When Chris finally spoke, his voice was barely above a whisper. "Did I do something wrong?"
The honest hurt in those words nearly broke Tom. He turned to look at Chris properly for the first time since he'd arrived. What looked back at him was confusion written across his features in the dying light.
"No," Tom said quickly. "God, no. You didn't do anything wrong, mate. You never do anything wrong, that's the problem."
Chris's brow furrowed. "I don't understand."
Tom ran a hand through his hair, feeling the salt breeze tangle it further. How could he explain that Chris's perfection was suffocating him? That every text, every surprise visit, every tender look felt like another link in a chain Tom hadn't asked for? He took a shaky breath. "Chris, this was meant to be casual - just fun. But its been clear you've wanted more for some time... calls at all hours, showing up unannounced wherever I am. It's all too much."
Chris's face fell, the golden tan seeming to drain away in the fading light. "So it was just casual for you?"
"At first, yeah. But it has changed. You're pushing boundaries, and I keep letting you. I don't even know why I say yes half the time."
Chris's jaw tightened. "You said you liked it."
"Sometimes I do. But it's become more about you needing me than what I want", Tom's voice wavered, "When was the last time I said no to you, and you actually listened?"
Chris opened his mouth, then closed it, his expression darkening.
"And it's not just that," Tom continued, the dam now broken. "I spoke with Liam that day in London and he said you talk about me constantly. He said you're obsessed."
"My brother needs to mind his own fucking business," Chris growled.
Tom shook his head. "It's not just him. My brothers have noticed it too. Harry asked if you were stalking me after that dinner at Easter. I felt cornered."
Chris shifted awkwardly in the sand. "What are you saying?"
The evening breeze picked up, sending a chill across Tom's skin. Or maybe it was the look in Chris's eyes - hurt, confusion, anger.
Tom continued forward. "I'm asking you, what are we doing? You're flying across the Pacific for a one-night hookup while your wife and kids are back home."
Chris's jaw tightened. "Don't bring my family into this."
"But that's exactly it, they are in this" Tom insisted, feeling a surge of courage. "Every time you text me while you're at home with them. Every time you make an excuse to be somewhere I am." He swallowed hard. "I can't be the reason your marriage falls apart, Chris. I won't."
"My marriage is fine," Chris said, but the words sounded hollow even to Tom's ears.
"Is it? Because from where I'm sitting, you're spending an awful lot of time thinking about someone who isn't your wife." Tom felt his throat tighten. "And I'm spending too much time thinking about someone who can't be my husband. I can't build a life with anyone else when you're always... there and wanting more of me than I can give."
"Is there someone else?" Chris's voice cracked.
Tom shook his head. "No."
Chris went quiet, gaze fixed on the horizon. "I never meant to make you feel trapped."
Tom's voice softened. "I know, and a part of this is on me for not stopping this much sooner. But I owed it to you to tell you in person because you deserve it."
Tom let the silence stretch again. The sky was almost black now, the first stars winking in.
"I loved it," Tom said, so quietly he almost missed it himself.
Chris said nothing.
"Most of it anyway."
Still nothing.
"But I'm not built for this. Not the way you are."
Chris turned and stared at him, jaw tight, eyes glistening with something unspoken. "So you're just going to walk away?"
Tom nodded, barely. "Yeah."
"Fuck that," Chris snarled, pushing himself to his feet with such force that sand sprayed outward. The large Australian started walking in circles, one hand roughly running through his hair and gripping it as he tried to process what he was hearing. His breaths were coming faster, some form of mild panic setting in.
Tom gently stood up. He expected a reaction, even resistance, but this was more than he...
"Four years, Tom. Four fucking years, and you're just - what - done with me?"
Tom flinched at the sudden fury in Chris's voice, raw anger that twisted Chris's features into something almost unrecognisable in the dying light.
"It's not like that," Tom said, acutely aware of how much smaller he was. "I'm trying to do the right thing here."
"The right thing?" Chris laughed, a harsh sound that carried across the beach. "Geez, Thomas. It would've been nice to have told me this before I flew across the fucking Pacific to see you... the right thing? Fuck the hell off. The right thing would've been not letting me fall for you if you were just going to bail."
Tom's stomach clenched, shoulders tightening. "That's not fair."
"Fair?" Chris stepped closer, towering over him. "You want to talk about fair? I rearranged my entire life around seeing you; I risk everything for someone who thinks I'm just some pathetic stalker."
"I never said that," Tom protested, but Chris was on a roll now, words spilling out like poison.
"You don't have to kid. It's written all over your face." Chris's voice dropped to a dangerous whisper. "You know what I think? I think you're scared. I think you've found someone who actually sees you. That terrifies you because you don't know how to handle being truly wanted."
Tom felt something cold slide down his spine. Chris's words hit too close to a truth he wasn't ready to examine. But the unfairness of it all - the way Chris was twisting things - only strengthened his resolve. "That's bullshit, and you know it."
"Is it?" Chris's eyes narrowed. "You've been thrilled to take everything I've given you. Every hotel fuck, every dirty little text. You've never complained before."
"Because I didn't want to hurt you!" Tom's voice rose despite his best efforts to keep calm. "And I cared about you... I still care about you. But this has gone too far."
"Too far," Chris repeated, his laugh bitter. "What's too far, Tom? The fact that I love you? Is that it?"
The word hung between them, heavy and impossible. Love. Chris had never said it before, not like this, and certainly not with this tone.
Tom swallowed hard. "You don't love me," he said quietly. "You love the idea of me - someone willing to bend over whenever you want. If we were together properly, you'd get bored within a month."
Chris's face contorted with hurt, then hardened again - Tom could almost feel the increasingly unrestrained mania coming off him. "You don't get to tell me what I feel."
"And you don't get to make me feel guilty for wanting something genuine," Tom countered. "I'm sorry, I'm done. I need to move on and figure out what I want without you... consuming everything in my life."
"Consuming," Chris repeated, the word falling like a stone. "You think I'm some kind of monster."
"That's not what I meant, and you know it." He had to de-escalate the situation somehow.
"No Tom, I obviously don't know," he said, face twisting in hurt and anger. "Fuck, tell me what you want me to change. Don't throw what we have away".
"We don't have anything, Chris, don't you get it, you dumb fuck?" Shit. Even as he said it, he knew he'd made a mistake.
"You played me, you little fucking cunt!" Chris's voice dropped to a growl as he lunged forward, grabbing Tom by the front of his shirt with both hands. The fabric twisted in his massive fists, yanking Tom onto his tiptoes. "You've been stringing me along this whole time, haven't you? Getting off on having me wrapped around your finger?"
The words slashed through the air between them, sharp as knives. Chris's face twisted into something Tom barely recognised - a mask of rage, hurt, and humiliation.
"Four years of letting me fuck you whenever it suited, and now you're too good for me?" Chris shook him, hard enough that Tom's teeth rattled. "What was I to you? Another story to tell your mates?"
Tom's hands flew up instinctively, grabbing Chris's wrists, trying to steady himself. His heart hammered so hard he thought it might burst through his ribs. This wasn't the man he knew, Chris could be intense sure, but for the first time Tom was genuinely terrified. "Chris, stop..." Tom gasped, but Chris wasn't listening.
"All those times you begged for it," Chris hissed, face inches from Tom's. "Atlanta, Lisbon, London. Was that all fake, too? Were you laughing at me the whole time?"
Tom couldn't breathe. Couldn't think. The beach spun around him, the world narrowing to Chris's twisted face, the vicious grip on his shirt, the cold certainty that Chris could break him in half if he wanted to and was willing to do it.
"Stop," Tom whispered, voice cracking. "Chris - you're scaring me."
Something shifted in Chris's eyes then. He blinked, focus returning, and really looked at Tom's face for the first time since his rage had exploded. What he saw there made him freeze.
Tom was trembling, eyes wide and wet, skin pale despite the lingering warmth of the day. His hands shook where they gripped Chris's wrists, not pushing him away but holding on like he might fall if let go. Tom's breathing came in short, sharp gasps, and there was something in his expression that Chris had never seen before, something that cut through his anger like a blade - pure, naked fear.
Chris let go so suddenly that Tom stumbled backward, nearly falling back onto the beach. The rage drained from Chris's face, replaced by horror. Horror at himself, at what he'd done, at the look in Tom's eyes.
Chris stepped back, horror dawning on his face. "Oh god, Tom, I..." He dropped to the sand, massive shoulders curling inward and shaking. "I'm sorry," he choked out, voice muffled and broken. "I didn't mean.... I would never." A sob tore through him, raw and unfiltered as wet tears hit the sand.
Tom's fear began to ebb, replaced by a hollow ache in his chest. He'd never imagined the big man could fall apart so completely. Slowly, cautiously, Tom knelt in the sand beside him, keeping a careful distance.
"Chris," he said softly. "It's okay. I'm okay."
Chris shook his head, refusing to look at Tom. "Nothing about this is okay." His voice was wrecked, barely recognisable. "I scared you. I said those things..." He dragged a hand down his face, wiping at tears that wouldn't stop. "I am a fucking monster."
Tom swallowed hard. "You're not a monster. You got hurt, and you lashed out."
"That's no excuse... There is no excuse for what I did."
The pair were alone with the waves and the rising moon, two tiny figures in a landscape too vast to care about their pain.
"I think," Tom said carefully, "we've both been pretending this was something it wasn't. For a long time."
Chris nodded, rubbing roughly at his eyes. "I knew. Deep down, I knew you didn't feel the same way. But I thought maybe if I just... if I could just be there enough, show you enough, you'd change your mind."
Tom sighed, sinking fully onto the sand. "That's not how it works."
"I know that now." Chris looked out at the restless ocean, his profile sharp against the darkening sky. "I fucked everything up, didn't I? Not just us, but our friendship too."
Tom was quiet for a long moment, listening to the waves crash and recede, crash and recede. "I don't know," he said finally. "I hope not."
Chris turned to him, eyes still wet. "I would take it all back if I could. Everything I said. Everything I did just now."
"I know." Tom hesitated, then reached out, placing his hand on the sand between them - not touching, but closer. "For what it's worth, I never faked anything with you. Not one moment."
Chris stared at Tom's hand, then at his face and nodded. He wiped his nose with the back of his hand, suddenly looking younger, more vulnerable than Tom had ever seen him.
They sat in silence as the last light faded from the sky, the stars emerging one by one above them and the moon turning the sand from a dusky yellow to a diamond white. The anger was gone, leaving only exhaustion and a melancholy clarity.
Chris took a deep breath, then slowly got to his feet, brushing sand from his shorts. He held out a hand to Tom, who hesitated only briefly before taking it, letting Chris pull him up.
They stood facing each other in the moonlight, neither quite ready to walk away.
"What happens now?" Chris asked.
Tom shrugged. "We go back to being colleagues. Friends, eventually, I hope."
"I'd like that," Chris said. He paused, then added: "I hope one day you can find someone who will give you all of themselves, not just stolen moments."
Tom felt his throat tighten. "Thank you."
Chris nodded, then stepped back, creating space between them that felt both necessary and final. "Take care, Tom."
Tom smiled, a real one this time. "You too, Chris."
Chris turned and walked away, his footprints in the sand the only evidence he'd been there at all.
Tom watched until his silhouette disappeared into the blue moonlight, feeling lighter and emptier than he had in years.
The air was cool against his skin as he turned toward the lights of the city. Each step away from the beach felt like a step toward something unknown and a little frightening, but of his own making.
He didn't look back. Not for one second.
