Work Text:
According to plan, Huntrix broke up, or at least close enough to it so they could strike and take the fans for good. It was possible they would talk it out eventually, but by the time that happened it would be too late.
They watched the entire situation with satisfaction, and announced their own performance right after. There was no time to waste.
They were backstage, only moments away from Gwi-ma taking over the world. This was it.
“This is it.” Mystery voiced out loud what they've all been thinking. “This is really it.”
“Yeah. It's weird to think about it.” Romance agreed.
Baby stayed silent, eyeing their leader. Jinu looked normal, but he couldn’t fully forgive him the past two weeks. He brings them here and when they're so close, he hesitates?
Abby brought them all into a hug. “We actually did it, and I'm so proud of every single one of you.”
“Yeah.” Jinu smiled, but it looked wrong, somehow. “Let’s finish this.”
The performance was everything.
They no longer needed to hide, so they went all out. The stadium was dark, only the stage lit. They wore their demon forms, proudly.
But the song. The song was the most important part.
Your Idol was very different from Soda Pop, but much more them. The lyrics were darker, knowing the fans won't notice anything under Gwi-ma's influence. Not focusing on being catchy, but to celebrate what they've accomplished.
Who knew Jinu's plan would actually work?
Right?
It all became a blur after that.
He remembered annoyance when the half-breed showed up.
He remembered anger when the other two huntresses joined her and started fighting back.
He remembered something akin to relief when he saw Gwi-ma was taking care of the purple one.
He remembered shock when he realized what Jinu did.
He remembered fear, seeing the girls cut down his brothers, one by one.
And then he disappeared.
He hid in the apartment they stayed at.
It wasn't anything fancy, considering they were a popular K-pop group and Huntrix had a whole tower, but it was enough.
It wasn't the biggest, but now it felt impossibly large. And so, so empty.
There was no one. And it hurt so badly.
The last bits of energy were drained out of him, same as his will to stay upright as he collapsed onto the floor with a desperate sob.
He wanted Mystery, Romance, and Abby. Or his father.
Ideally both.
Yet he had nothing.
The realization of the situation was painful and left him choking for air.
Gwi-ma left him.
Jinu betrayed them.
The rest of the Saja Boys died.
There was no one left, and he was alone.
For once, he let his guard down and let himself believe he could trust someone, and look where that had gotten him.
He almost laughed at his own stupidity, even though there was nothing funny about the situation. Instead, another sob forced its way out, followed by a pained scream he didn’t even hear.
Nothing seemed real.
His eyes stung, his throat hurt, but it was nothing compared to the pain in his chest.
Somewhere deep in his mind, a voice that he recognized as his own was yelling at him, telling him he should get himself together. Take care of his wounds, eat, figure out if there was a way to get the others back, figure out what huntrix were doing.
He couldn't bring himself to care.
Everything was numbed by grief.
He remembered the crystal in his father's possession and the stories he told him.
And for the first time in what felt like forever, he smiled. It was far from happy – just full of the emptiness he felt in his heart.
They were going to pay. Everyone was going to pay. And he'll make sure of it.
