Work Text:
Work has been— well, he can’t say the word— but he’s been here for twelve hours already and they’ve had six minor calls so Eddie’s now lounging upstairs enjoying the downtime. Buck’s baking what smells like cinnamon rolls, Hen’s on the couch with her head back and her eyes closed but she’d say she isn’t sleeping, Ravi’s texting someone sitting at the table waiting for the cinnamon rolls to be ready, and Chimney’s downstairs in his office.
In the past month, Eddie has made a lot of realizations. They celebrated día de muertos and ever since then he’s been coming to terms— quietly and to himself— about who he truly is and what he wants in life. Being around his parents again since Chris moved back home was real tense, on top of him and Buck trying to finally move on from Bobby being gone. Eddie also realized he hadn’t fully let go of Shannon either and the guilt he felt over her death.
He was able to finally come to terms with the fact that he couldn’t give Shannon what she wanted and what she deserved. He realized that what always held him back from her and being able to be the person for her was because he’s gay.
Realizing he’s gay came with living in such close quarters with Buck and then finding out about the shit that happened while he was in Texas like Buck sleeping with Tommy again, Tommy calling him competition, and Maddie asking if it’d be so crazy if Buck was in love with him— nothing stays a secret long in this family.
What really hit him is realizing that he’s constantly trying to find his son a new mom because he felt like Shannon’s death was his fault and he had to fix that but what he should have been doing all these years is give into this very real and very big part of himself. Buck has been a constant in his life for seven years, the only person he’s ever truly trusted with his life and his son's life, and the one person he’s ever felt a real love for. He’s only realizing that the love he’s always felt for Buck was never just a platonic love.
A week after, they found Bobby was still alive and held by the government. They were able to cure Bobby from the disease with a new version of the cure they had the scientist they had in custody make. He’s been good since he’s been back but he decided not to come back to the 118, feeling like it was finally time to retire with that last call he was on so Chimney held his captain title.
It’s nearly Christmas and Eddie wants to tell Buck that he’s in love with him but every time he thinks he should, he panics.
But watching Buck and observing him under a new lens, he thinks that maybe, just maybe, Buck feels the same way he does.
This thought is what has Eddie thinking about confessing his love to Buck but his brain can’t help but overthink which makes him panic and not actually confess.
The bell finally rings for the first time in four hours so everyone springs into action. As Buck turns the oven off, Eddie makes his way to the poll and slides down it. When he reaches the bottom, he sees Buck bounding his way down the stairs, reaching the bottom a few seconds after him. They rush to their turnouts that they left near each other and start getting dressed over their uniforms.
He’s got the pants on but they feel loose and that’s when he realizes and looks over at Buck who is absolutely struggling to get into his pants. Those aren’t Buck’s pants he’s trying to get into, it’s Eddie’s.
“What the—“ Buck says, looking down at himself— the pants not able to go past his crotch.
Eddie’s not good at flirting. In fact he’s pretty terrible at it but he can’t help but attempt to at that moment. “If you wanted to get in my pants so badly, you could have just asked, Buck,” he says, looking him up and down.
Buck is blushing redder than he’s ever seen him— his birthmark too. “I—“ Buck stutters out. He thinks Buck’s actually at a loss for words.
Eddie takes off Buck’s pants which seems to snap Buck into reality and he removes Eddie’s. They swap back to their proper turnouts and quickly get into their trucks— Eddie with Hen in the ambulance and Buck with Ravi and Chim.
Not sitting across from each other in the truck anymore sucks. He didn’t realize how much he needed Buck as his partner until they weren’t partners anymore. They’re not romantic partners and now they’re not even work partners— Eddie feels incomplete.
He tries not to think too much about it as they pull up to the crash site and gets his mind focused on saving people.

Was Eddie flirting with him?
They don’t do that.
They don’t flirt.
That’s never been their dynamic and yet something must have shifted because Eddie was flirting with him.
That’s not something Buck made up in his dreams. It happened while he was awake but he’s starting to overthink it.
Was he flirting or just teasing him?
Is he saying he wants Buck in his pants?
He kept that all at bay during the call until he’s finally able to get back to the station. That call took longer than all the others they’ve had since they started their shift so they’re getting back at nearly eleven at night. Everyone scatters off in different locations but Buck taps Eddie’s bicep and when he looks over at him, Buck nods his head towards the stairs, “Come with me,” he tells him.
Buck doesn’t look back but he can hear Eddie follow him upstairs. Buck goes to the oven where he left the cinnamon rolls before the call and sees that they actually look pretty good. He takes the tray out and can hear Eddie make his way to the other side of the island from Buck.
Buck puts the tray down on the island, between him and Eddie, looking at him. Eddie looks down at the cinnamon rolls and hums, “Mmm, these look good.”
“Yeah? You wanna try one?” Buck asks him, watching him.
“Definitely,” Eddie says, already reaching for one.
“Wait there’s no frosting on it,” Buck tells him but Eddie’s already taking a bite.
“Mmm,” he hums softly. That noise does something to Buck. “It’s good even without it,” Eddie tells him after swallowing his bite.
Buck still moves to get the frosting he had made earlier and goes about frosting the cinnamon rolls, even the one Eddie took a bite out of. Eddie takes another bite— a proper bite this time— and some frosting collects on the corner of his mouth and on his bottom lip.
Fuck, that’s so hot.
Eddie’s tongue pokes out to lick the frosting off of himself. Buck can’t tear his eyes away from him, eating a cinnamon roll shouldn’t be so fucking sexy. “You want a taste?” Eddie asks, forcing Buck’s eyes to look into his and away from his mouth, making Buck blush when he sees the smirk on his face.
Instead of offering him a bite of his cinnamon roll, Eddie takes another bite, purposefully catching frosting on his lips and once he swallows that bite, he motions with his finger to come to him.
Buck’s moving quickly around the kitchen island. Something is happening— something is going to happen between them.
He steps right into Eddie’s space as Eddie takes Buck’s shirt from his chest and pulls him right into a kiss. Buck’s hands instantly move to touch him— his left hand on Eddie’s waist as his right goes to hold Eddie’s face in his hands as they move seamlessly together like their lips were meant to be kissing.
Buck tastes the sweetness of the frosting and the sweetness that’s all Eddie and he chases after it even when Eddie starts to pull away slightly. Eddie giggles, leaning into Buck’s arm where he wraps it around his waist. “Anyone could see us,” Eddie says softly, looking into his deep blue eyes, darker as they’re dilated.
Buck smiles, chuckling softly. “So this really did just happen, I’m not dreaming again?” Buck teases, making Eddie blush.
“This something you been dreaming about often, Buckley?” Eddie flirts, Buck knows it this time, seeing the way he looks at him with those eyes and how he smirks and the way his eyebrow cocks teasingly.
“Way more than I want to admit,” he teases, leaning in and being met with another soft kiss. He can really just do that now— just kiss Eddie. He kisses him again then pulls back to smile at him. “And what about you, huh? Since when is this something you’re into?” he asks, meaning himself— men.
Eddie flattens his hand on Buck’s chest, moving it up slowly up to where he seems to always find his hand— on Buck’s shoulder, fingers always dangerously close to his neck. His right hand had found its way to Buck’s bicep and feeling Eddie’s fingers flex against his arm is turning him on way too much for where they currently are.
Eddie looks up into his eyes and says, “I heard about some things that I missed while I was in Texas that you never told me about,” smirking at him. “And with seeing my parents and facing Shannon’s death for the final time, it made me realize a lot of things about myself.”
“I’m proud of you,” Buck says as he squeezes his hip, smiling softly.
Eddie smiles at him so fondly, it melts Buck’s heart. “Thank you,” he says softly.
Eddie brings his hands down to take Buck’s in his before he leads them over to one of the couches. He didn’t want to move them there in fear that if he let go, Eddie would disappear, but he didn’t. He’s sitting right next to him on the couch, their legs touching, and his hand still holding Eddie’s.
“So what things did you hear and who told you?” Buck asks, turning more so he can look at Eddie, one leg resting on the couch between them.
Eddie chuckles. “I’ll never reveal my sources but something about Tommy thinking I was his competition to be with you. And well—” he sighs, “—hearing about you two hooking up at my house didn’t sit well with me. I realized it’s not exactly platonic of me to be jealous that Tommy got to be with you again like that when he doesn’t deserve you and I’ve never gotten to,” he admits and it makes Buck feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
And just really fucking turned on.
“That’s so fucking hot, Eddie,” Buck tells him, biting his bottom lip.
“Yeah?” Eddie asks, teasingly, leaning in. He ghosts his lips over Buck’s and asks, “You like knowing that I hate the thought of anyone else having you like that?”
Buck moans softly, wanting so badly to press his lips to his but the way Eddie’s teasing him— edging him almost— is really doing it for him. “Ye—yes,” he stutters out.
“Never again,” Eddie tells him, licking across Buck’s lips from bottom to top before he says, “You’re mine.”
Eddie kisses him hard, Buck moans into the kiss, pulling Eddie closer to him. Eddie moves easily, climbing onto his lap without breaking the kiss.
The moment Eddie’s ass presses against his hardening cock in his uniform, Buck moans deeply into Eddie’s mouth. Eddie tries to shush him, giggling softly as he moves his lips to Buck’s neck. “God, you feel so good on top of me, Eddie,” he moans softly, thrusting up into Eddie where he grinds down harder on him.
Eddie kisses his neck, licking up to his earlobe. Buck tries very hard not to moan loudly— or cum in his uniform. “Eddie,” he moans softly, taking Eddie’s face in his hand and kissing him, shoving his tongue in his mouth, his hand gripping onto his waist.
The pace between them is more intense as they’re moving harder and faster, meeting each others every move. “Fuck,” Eddie moans, tearing his mouth away from him, sitting back on Buck’s lap, knowing he’ll hold him upright. “We should— fuck— we should stop,” he says, even though he hasn’t stopped grinding against him.
“Let me get my mouth on you,” is what Buck says instead.
“Buck,” Eddie moans softly.
“No one’s coming up here, we’ve been alone for so long— pretty sure most of them are already in bed,” Buck tells him, leaning in more to kiss Eddie softly, nipping at his bottom lip. “Need to taste you, baby.”
Eddie moans, deepening the kiss. Buck lifts Eddie in his arms easily and plops him on the couch next to him before he gets down on his knees between Eddie’s legs. Eddie grabs a pillow wedged behind him and gives it to Buck. He chuckles, taking it and putting in on the floor and kneeling on it instead.
Buck makes quick work of freeing Eddie’s hard, leaking cock from his pants and taking it into his mouth in one swift motion, moaning instantly around it. Eddie’s hand grabs onto his hair, his fingers threading through his curls as he moans softly, trying not to make any noise.
“This is so— fuck, you’re so good at this, baby,” Eddie tells him, his fingers moving down to caress the side of Buck’s face. Buck leans into the touch, moaning around his cock at the praise. “I’m already so close,” he adds softly.
Buck lets go of him with a pop to say, “Cum in my mouth,” as he undoes his pants and spits into his hand, taking his hard, neglected cock in hand, stroking himself.
“Holy fu—” Eddie moans, watching him, cut off by Buck wrapping his lips around Eddie’s cock again, sucking him down, using his left hand to hold him in place as his right hand strokes himself to the feeling of Eddie filling his mouth, thrusting into his throat. “You’re so pretty like this, Buck,” he moans softly before he comes down his throat.
Buck twists his wrist and comes hard into his hand as he takes everything Eddie gives him down his throat. He slowly lets him go, swallowing down everything and looking up at him with a couple of tear stains down his cheek, lips plump and pink.
“You’re incredible,” Eddie huffs out, smiling. “That was the best I’ve ever had.”
“Yeah?” Buck asks, blushing.
“Mhmm, by far,” Eddie smiles. “Here, let me—” he starts to say before he shifts to put himself back into his pants and then help Buck up. He grabs a tissue for him to clean his hand before he puts himself back into his pants, both of them plopping back down onto the couch next to each other.
Eddie puts his arm around his shoulders, holding him close. Buck smiles, snuggling in close to him, “I love you, Eddie,” he says in the quiet that settles around them.
Eddie kisses the top of his head and says softly, “I love you, Evan.”
Buck takes Eddie’s hand that’s hanging by his shoulder and kisses it before turning his head to look at Eddie, meeting him with another soft kiss to his lips. Hearing Eddie call him Evan in the sweetest, fondest voice— he gives it a different meaning. He means it in a way he’s never heard from his parents growing up— with love behind it.
They don’t stay in their little love bubble for much longer as another call comes in. This time, when they get back to the station, they climb into one of the beds together, Eddie curling right into his arms, ass pressed up into him.
No one says anything until Chimney comes in last, taking the bottom bunk where Ravi sleeps above him, and says, “It’s about time you two,” making the others in the room clap, teasing them.
“Alright, alright,” Buck says, trying to calm them all down as Eddie laughs in his arms. “Let’s try to get some sleep,” he tells them all, everyone quieting down. He kisses the crook of Eddie’s neck, settling in close to him, and falling asleep instantly. They slept through the night with no more calls and Buck had the best sleep of his life with Eddie curled in his arms.
Eddie turns to look at him, smiling as he squints his eyes open. “Morning,” he mumbles softly.
Buck leans in and kisses him softly on the lips. “You’re extremely cute in the morning,” Buck tells him softly.
Eddie blushes, hiding his face in Buck’s neck.
They don’t stay like that long, getting out of bed and heading for the showers. Once they’re back in clean and proper uniforms, they make their way upstairs for some coffee. Buck has two sips of his coffee before the bell rings and they head out to their last call of this twenty-four hour shift.
Pulling back into the station, Chimney tells them to meet him in his office. He shows them forms that Bobby had signed when he was still captain— forms approving a relationship between him and Eddie.
“He— when did he do this?” Buck asks, smiling. He had no idea Bobby knew there was something between them.
“I have no idea, there’s no date on it and it was just sitting in his drawer,” Chimney tells him. “He knew you two would figure it out eventually and he wanted to show you that he’s always approved of it.”
Buck smiles, looking at Eddie beside him, taking his hand in his and squeezing it. He leans closer to the desk, picking up the pen from the table and signs the form, handing the pen to Eddie to sign next. Chimney also signs it considering he’s the current captain then tells them to get out of here.
Before they go, Buck takes a picture with his phone of the forms and texts them to Bobby with a simple red heart.
He gets a text back instantly, then another.
Bobby:
😊
Bobby:
Dinner at ours Friday 6 o’clock
Buck:
We’ll be there
Buck:
Thank you for always being there for us
Bobby:
Love you, kid
This time Buck can say it back.
Buck:
Love you too, Bobby
They get their bags from their lockers and walk out of the station holding hands. Buck’s never felt so loved in his life. He feels like he can conquer anything with the love of his life beside him and one of the only people who’s ever felt like a real parent to him supporting him.
