Chapter Text
"Euughhh.." A groan was the first thing that came out of Centurion's lips. Eyes blinked rapidly to adjust to the morning's sun. Stretching and sliding down, Centurion squeezed her clothing, noting their dryness. She looked down at her Solidus, hoping it to enlighten her with knowledge to find the nearest road.
"I need to go back to the city. Heads for..." Centurion caught herself, realizing she had no directional awareness, too. "Let's say, heads for following the river. Tails for going through the forest."
DING
She tilted her head, opening her hand to catch the falling coin.
Tails.
"Tails...?" Reluctance was the first thought. But the coin was never wrong. Centurion held her breath briefly, staring off into the vast forest that could put her in jeopardy with one wrong act. She heaved a great big sigh and entered. Yet her eyes remained on the flowing river, clear and direct.
The woman took in the environment's details. Picking up all the little characteristics of each unique spot. How moss had coated a boulder. The birds' nests sit on the highest branches. The aroma of wet earth beneath her feet.
Every step shifted, more of Centurion's flashy attitude shone through. From cautious tip-toes to skipping. Curing her boredom by jumping from rock to rock like some kid. Hands twiddling with sticks and leaves, even stopping by a lake to rock-skip before, ultimately dragging herself back into the forest, reminding herself that she was in a life-or-death situation.
Arriving at the pinnacle of the hills. Fields of wheat had now been. With the relieving sight of a lone dirt road that extended far into the horizon. It was better than nothing. Centurion giggled ecstatically, yet a part of her wished to stay just for a little longer. A place that no other human can trouble her with a copious amount of inquiries. But her body protested. Her stomach growled, and her throat tightened from thirst.
She looked down at her hand that held the coin. In her last efforts, she placed the coin on her thumb.
*If it's heads, she has to leave and walk the road to go find someone for help. If tails, then she'll stay here and wait for help.
DING
Tails again.
Centurion's shoulders relaxed, her body slumping just to immediately recline back up and scavenge for a rock to comfortably collapse on. She whistled, she hummed, she watched, and nestled waiting for someone. Hours passed, long enough for her to slip back into a nap. It only took one subtle snap for her to jolt up.
Peaking her head out of the woods, she was blessed with a rugged farmer, too busy negotiating with an unfortunate family that had to sell their acre. The stock market did crash after all. Now, night was approaching, darkness clouding their visibility. Paired with the endless talking, it was a perfect cover-up for Centurion to enter the farmer's trunk.
"Ugh." She scoffed. Her face squished. The hay bail was a comfortless cushion, but that's what she had to deal with. In a hasty manner, she sprinkled the hay bail over her body. Frozen in that position prior to the engine humming. It was time now. Time for Centurion to leave this idyllic bushland.
While her head banged against the truck's frame due to the rocky trail, it eventually smoothed. That was when Centurion had snoozed for the night. The city awaits her by the morning light.
