Summary
After the War of the Ring, Éomer, newly crowned King of Rohan, carries the scars of battle both upon his flesh and within his heart. Hardened by loss and years of warfare, he believes love to be a luxury for other men, softer men, not for a king who must rebuild a broken realm.
Far to the south, in the sea-bound haven of Dol Amroth, Lothíriel is sheltered and feels deeply, a trait often dismissed as weakness. When her father, Prince Imrahil, proposes a political marriage between her and Éomer to strengthen the bond between their kingdoms, she accepts, fearful but dutiful.
But Lothíriel finds the King of Rohan proud and distant, and she laments the thought of a lifetime in a loveless, lonely marriage.
Meanwhile, Éomer guards his heart like a fortress, unwilling to let affection breach its walls.
Will love be an elusive obscurity, or will they overcome their personal fears to discover a devotion beyond imagining?
