His nakama had stayed to recover, but once they were well enough to travel, they were departing. Ace was taking Shanks’ advice. He was in no condition to travel the seas. It was for the best. Ace had stayed on the shore, watching them leave. The last thing that he had done was bid them farewell and give Marco a kiss goodbye, with promises to see each other again. Tucked behind Ace’s ear was a red lotus flower that Marco had put there.
Strength… Resilience… Rebirth.
Ace didn’t know what his purpose in life was anymore. All he knew was that he had to keep living. Every day, he went to the shore and stared out at the sea. It had been weeks since his nakama had departed. Weeks since Marineford and his life had changed. He thought of them. Thought of his last night with Marco before they left. The way that Marco just held him and kept telling him that everything would be okay.
Ace longed to be back on the sea. Wild and free. That wasn’t going to happen. At least, not any time soon. His injuries were still healing, but that wasn’t the reason why. He could feel it. The change. It was like a little flame that was trying to ignite life. As he stood at the shore, he placed his hand onto his stomach as a smile came to his face.
Ace had been given a second chance at life, and soon, it wouldn’t just be his life anymore.
_
Ace was so tired, but he did it. Piercing cries filled the room as Ace held onto his newborn… son. He had wisps of black hair on his head and freckles dusting his cheeks. The Omega found himself just staring at his son, rocking slightly as he ran his fingertip over freckled cheeks. Their son was so… beautiful.
It was as if for a moment, he had completely forgotten the rest of the world. It was just the two of them. If Ace hadn’t survived back then, their baby wouldn’t exist. He wouldn’t be here. Ace sniffled slightly, laughing underneath his breath as the baby cooed at him. His son cracked his eyes open and Ace was able to see violet. It was like the perfect mixture of Ace’s wine-colored eyes and Marco’s blue.
“Hi,” Ace whispered. He choked up as he curled his arms tighter around the infant. Ace used to ask himself if it was good that he was born. Now, he knew. The Omega smiled softly, murmuring, “The world… may hate your existence… I promise, I won’t let you feel the pain I did.”
The Omega leaned in, nuzzling his cheek against his son’s. His son just needed a name. And, Ace knew the perfect one.
“Welcome to the world,” Ace murmured, “Guren.”
_
Ace didn’t say anything as he stepped back from him and turned to go down the hall. As he stood there, the Alpha’s heart pounded in his chest. Ace disappeared out of sight only momentarily before he was returning with an infant in his arms. The Omega walked over to him, smiling fondly down at the baby as he murmured, “Marco… Meet your son.”
“My son…” Marco whispered as he looked down at the now-calmed infant. Curious violet eyes were on Marco as the Alpha took in his features. Wavy black hair was on his head and freckles across his cheeks. He looked just like… Ace. They had a… son. Ace carefully passed the infant to him, and Marco pulled the baby to his chest. He couldn’t breathe, completely enthralled, as he stared at those violet eyes. “What’s his name?”
“Guren.” Ace murmured.
Marco turned his surprised gaze towards Ace as a smile came to his face. He knew exactly why Ace named the baby that. He didn’t have to say anything. Marco looked back down to his son, and he could feel it. Marco smiled as he whispered, “Hi, Guren.” He reached up, brushing at the soft hair on Guren’s head. Marco looked back over towards Ace as he reached out and pulled the Omega to him while keeping Guren in a protective, firm grasp. Ace smiled at him as Marco leaned in and pressed a kiss against his lover’s lips. Marco pulled back, whispering, “I love you.”
“I love you too.” Ace murmured back. The Omega leaned over, settling his head onto Marco’s shoulder as he reached out to place a hand on their baby.
A warmth overcame him, and Marco knew he had to do everything in the world to make this a better place for his… family.
For now, Marco was going to hold his family close to him, and he was never going to let them go again.
