Chapter Text

Frantically navigating the halls, Yoohyeon has Minji’s phone to look at her schedule in one hand, while Minji clutches her other arm, trailing slightly behind her. Most people’s classes just ended so the corridors are flooded with people. Minji clings onto Yoohyeon for dear life because she has no recollection of where everything is and the masses of people don’t help very much. Yoohyeon is not doing much better, as she had quickly realized she and Minji were in completely different majors and she had never been in the buildings Minji’s classes are in.

Amidst Minji’s disorientation, she optimistically looks at Yoohyeon when the other girl stops in front of a door and lets out a relaxed sigh upon looking back and forth between the sequence of numbers on the door and Minji’s schedule.

“Found it! Come on, Minji, let’s go.” Yoohyeon cracks the door open and turns to Minji, gesturing for her to follow her in.

“Wait, don’t you have class elsewhere though?” Minji questions, voice wavering in uncertainty. She has an itching that makes her want Yoohyeon to stay with her, but she doesn’t want the other girl to neglect her own studies.

“I promised you I would stay with you until you’ve recovered your memories, right? I can always catch up later,” Yoohyeon reassures her and gently tugs her into the classroom. Minji obliges, Yoohyeon’s words making her feel more secure in her heart.

The lecture hall only has a few people sprinkled about, although Yoohyeon doesn’t know if it’s because nobody attends the class or if they’re just early. The two girls stand near the front of the room, looking up into the seats.

“Do you remember where you usually sit?”

“Umm, no...” Minji replies, staring blankly into the abyss of unoccupied seats. “Well, I’ve noticed that my eyesight is kind of terrible, so maybe near the front?”

“Wait, do you have glasses then?” Yoohyeon asks, now realizing that she’s never even thought about the prospect of Minji’s state of physical well-being, like did she have allergies or any other type of medical condition that she possibly forgot about?

Minji shrugs and the two spend a quick few seconds digging through her bag looking for a possible glasses case. And in the next minute, Minji has donned a pair of round metal glasses that accentuate her face’s cute features. Minji turns to Yoohyeon with a smile, very happy that she can see again. Her gaze lingers on Yoohyeon’s face, admiring the other girl’s features for the first time clearly.

“Hm?” Yoohyeon quirks her brows, curious about why Minji’s staring at her.

“Woah, I mean, you’re very pretty, Yoohyeon,” Minji says in awe, eyes still on the other girl. Yoohyeon flushes red. It takes her a moment to regain her composure.

“You’re very pretty too.” Yoohyeon quickly utters the words while avoiding eye contact before bringing Minji’s attention back to the problem at hand.

Step 2 of Yoohyeon’s memory recollection plan: Friends

“Now that you can see, can you recognize anyone in the room?”

Minji scans the room, pausing on each student to see if their face brings something to her mind. Nobody rings a bell until she makes contact with this smaller looking girl. The girl makes eye contact with her and gives her a puzzled look. Minji doesn’t know whether to be happy that someone recognizes her or to be scared because this short woman is aggressively stomping her way down the stairs towards Minji and Yoohyeon.

“Hi Minji, what’s up? Why aren’t you sitting? Who’s this? ” Minji’s classmate bluntly asks, looking skeptically at Yoohyeon. Minji obviously doesn’t recognize her so she stays silent, lips parted without knowing what to say.

“Umm… Hi, I’m Yoohyeon. I accidentally hit Minji here in the head earlier today so she basically lost her memories...” Yoohyeon interjects, explaining the circumstances to the shorter girl, whose jaw has fallen to the ground.

“WHAT??? WAIT SO MINJI YOU DON’T REMEMBER ME??? ARE YOU HURT???”

Minji and Yoohyeon both take a slight step back, recoiling from the girl’s unexpected loudness. Yoohyeon has her hands out in front of her in self defense, unable to grasp how such volume can come from someone so small. Minji, however, doesn’t back away fast enough, and the short girl grabs hold of her shoulders and examines her face for injuries like a mother. Minji assures her that she’s physically okay and Bora starts shaking her instead, as if it’s going to scramble her braincells into remembering everything.

“I’M BORA! Minji, we’ve been friends for over ten years! Remember??? We met in elementary after a boy tried to take your snack so I punched him and he ran away!”

Minji stares at her in shock, trying to take in all the information and recall the events of Bora’s description while trying to imagine a younger version of the girl in front of her.

“I’m sorry… I can’t seem to remember that…” Minji admits. It’s quite disheartening to her how she can’t remember her own childhood bestfriend.

Bora looks defeated and directs her fury towards Yoohyeon. The lankier girl can sense her impending doom and starts backing up even further. Her back hits the wall beside the door and Bora takes the opportunity to grab onto Yoohyeon’s shoulders and she starts aggressively shaking her.

“What. Did. You. Do. To. My. Best. Friend!?”

Yoohyeon’s literally being shaken too aggressively to give a coherent answer.

“Bora, calm down!” Minji separates them; Yoohyeon gives her a grateful yet ashamed look, while Bora looks just as upset. “The doctor said I’ll make a full recovery. I’ll just need time. Yoohyeon’s only helping me.”

Bora sighs, realizing that her outburst, though justified, was probably not going to help anybody.

“Okay, Yoohyeon, let’s be friends, since Minji seems to trust you. But if she’s never the same again, I will kill you!” Bora sticks out her hand for Yoohyeon to shake to seal the deal on their new friendship. Yoohyeon tentatively takes her hand, feeling more threatened to become her friend than anything.

“YAYYYY! See, everything's going to be fine and we're all friends! Isn’t that amazing?” Minji exclaims, clasping her hands together. Although she still doesn’t remember Bora, Minji has the feeling that this is the beginning of something beautiful. Bora looks at her with a fond smile, thinking that this is the Minji she’s always known. Yoohyeon only hopes that Minji’s words will become true.
