Title Lyrics From: Promiscuous - Nelly Furtado

Notes:

Before you read:

This does take place in the same universe as my other work "Kiss me, I'm not scarred". However it is also set like 200 years after and contains no overt spoilers for the rest of what I have planned for that series.

I had this idea in my head, wrote it and decided there's no point in making you wait for me to finish my other series.

Happy Reading!!

Work Text:

It was stupid really. He felt ridiculous for even having the thought. He knew that Scott loved him, they had been together for the last 200 years after all. Sure they fought sometimes, and sometimes they would yell at each other; but 200 years was a long time. Most couples lasted three and a half years before either breaking up or getting married.

So why at 200 years was he still an unmarried man?

Pyro rolled over in the bed, pulling himself closer into his lover. He should just be grateful Scott still put up with him after this long. His old family could hardly stand him for a fraction of the time. He felt Scott shift wrapping his arms tighter around Pyro. He should stop being selfish, this was still more than he ever thought he would get. He would be a fool to take it for granted.

He sat in the restaurant with Shelby. After some rebuilding, they had rebuilt Oakhurst into a bustling town. Scott was at the castle, doing important things that Pyro didn’t care to learn about. Neither of the vampires could eat any of the food offered at the restaurant, but both wanted to get out of the castle. His eyes drifted from the girl in front of him who was talking about some book she had read the other day. Across the restaurant was a young couple, in their mid twenties if he had to guess. He watched as the boy got up from the table and dropped to one knee, a ring in hand.

He felt Shelby grab his hand, pulling his attention from the newly engaged couple. She gave him a sympathetic smile, lightly squeezing his hand. “Have you told him you want to get married?” Pyro only shook his head. Years ago, when the thought had first occurred to him, he had confided in the girl. She let go of his hand with a sigh. “Why not?” she knew the answer, she had held Pyro when he cried about it enough times over the years to know why.

“It's selfish. If he wanted it he'd have asked by now.” He pushed his eyes together, now was not the time. “It doesn't matter.” He opened his eyes and gave a hollow smile. “Did you hear about that Bigfoot sighting in Canada?”

As if nothing had happened, Shelby started talking about bigfoot. Her obsession with the individual never having faded over the years. “Did I tell you he makes the best tea?”

Still he let years pass without a mention of a proposal. Scott never stopped being a loving attentive partner. Often showering the younger in gifts, 200 years later and not once had Scott forgotten to kiss him, to hold him, to remind him that he loved the younger. Pyro knew Scott was too good for him, he had given him everything he could have ever asked for growing up but he still wanted more.

Every so often Scott would ask him what was wrong. Sensing that something was upsetting his partner. But still no proposal. Pyro had convinced himself he was the problem. Maybe something had changed over the years. Maybe Scott had grown bored of him and was just waiting for something better to come around. He pulled the covers of the bed back before getting in and wrapping himself up like a burrito. Blood tears made their way down his face as he shuffled into his pillow. Scott was still in his office, looking through proposals for further development in town and Pyro was left alone.

Just as his family always said would happen.

He didn’t know how long he stayed there, crying convinced that Scott was going to leave him soon. That the one person he had ever loved, no longer loved him. Eventually he heard the door open and felt himself being moved into someone's arms. He could hear Scott talking to him, but it sounded like he was underwater. Slowly Scott maneuvered Pyro to be straddling him, his head tucked into his chest, a hand in his hair, and one on his back, under the youngers shirt rubbing comforting patterns onto the skin.

He continued to try and comfort his crying boyfriend. Pressing his body close, mumbling sweet nothings into his hair. Eventually Pyro stopped crying. He tried to hide in Scott's chest embarrassed. Scott only continued to comfort him. Slowly allowing silence to fall between them. “What's wrong darling?” Pyro burrowed further into Scott's embrace. “Tell me, so that I may fix whatever is wrong.”

Pyro slowly moved his face out of Scott's chest. Pulling back to look at his sire. Scott moved a hand to wipe the tears off Pyro's face. Pyro looked into Scott's eyes, trying to find anything to confirm that Scott had in fact moved on. “Do you still love me?” he looked down and slightly to the right, the words no more than a whisper.

“Oh my darling.” Scott used a finger under Pyro's chin to make him look at the other again. “I love you so much”. Scott slowly moved to kiss the younger, but stopped just before the others' lips. “I love you more than you know.” Pyro moved, pressing his lips against Scott's. Pyro moved his hands to run through Scott's hair, tugging slightly. Scott's hands moved to Pyro's waist, keeping the man close.

Pyro looked up at Scott, gently moving a piece of his white hair out of his eyes. The blanket laid down at their hips. Scott tilled his head to press a small kiss to the younger hand before it was pulled away from him. Scott was using one arm as a pillow and the other was draped over Pyro, holding him close. “Hi…” Pyro had an uncontrollable smile on his face. His earlier doubts gone.

“Hi.” Scott smiled back, forgetting about the mountain of work he had to do. This was much more important. “You still haven't told me what upset you.”

“It's stupid.”

“If something is upsetting you then it is not stupid.” Shelby's words rung in his ears. ‘Just tell him’

“Would you ever want to get married?” Scott didn't reply, instead turning away, rolling to reach something in his nightstand. But it was too late; Pyro had already slipped into panic. Worried that those seven words had just ruined the best thing to ever happen to him. His vision blurred with more blood tears. He could feel Scott move to face him again, but he was too lost in panic.

“Hey, hey, hey.” Scott moved a hand to wipe the tears from Pyro's face once again. “Look at me darling.” Pyro blinked, focusing on Scott's face, back where it was moments before. “I’m sorry darling. I didn’t mean to scare you.” Scott's thumb rubbed small light circles on his cheek.

“I thought you were leaving…”

“I just wanted to grab this.” Scott held up a small wooden box. “200 years and i only just found the perfect ring.” he removed his hand from Pyro's face to open the box. “Pyro, will you marry me?”
