Chapter 32: Iris

Summary:

Final chapter.

Chapter Text

A blanket of news rests upon the coffee table in the smaller Ketchum home. Across from it, a rocker by the sun filled window rested a woman with a child in her lap. The stable chair had a man in it with one of the papers in his hand. Beneath the windowsill, a small dial radio displayed itself upon a small white shelf filled with children's books.
Opposite of the window a large cardboard box supported a lamp and a small list of instructions. One of the box's edges had been torn open with a small knife which was stuck inside the structure. A small electric mouse placed himself in the doorway, but had fallen to sleep. The light from the window tried to pull Pikachu from his slumber, but the rat refused.
As the window’s light fell behind one of the Kanto clouds the radio began to speak.
“Um, hello. Some of you may not know me. Others might. I am the lead singer of the ‘Broken Hearts’, my name doesn’t matter. Over these last few months I have gone through some things. If you know, you know.
I have seen my name spread like some sad rumour. I have seen my friends’, i hope they’re still friends, names around all because of something they cannot control.
This mistress named music, she’s taken over mine and many others lives. The ‘Broken Hearts’ have always tried to tell our own version of the truth and it just doesn’t work like that anymore. We have overstayed our welcome, I feel. Maybe we’ll be back some day. I don’t think so. The others can continue if they want, but this is it for me. As of today I am no longer a part of the “Broken Hearts’. Now, I am going to play my last song with the ‘Hearts’. Sorry, its a cover:

‘Well, tell me, do you think it'd be all right
If I could just crash here tonight?
You can see I'm in no shape for driving
And anyway, I've got no place to go
And you know, it might not be that bad
You were the best I'd ever had
If I hadn't blown the whole thing years ago
I might not be alone

Tomorrow we can drive around this town
And let the cops chase us around
The past is gone, but something might be found
To take its place

Hey jealousy
Hey jealousy
Hey jealousy
Hey jealousy

You can trust me not to think
And not to sleep around
And if you don't expect too much from me
You might not be let down
'Cause all I really want is to be with you
Feeling like I matter too
If I hadn't blown the whole thing years ago
I might be here with you

Tomorrow we can drive around this town
And let the cops chase us around
The past is gone, but something might be found
To take its place
Hey jealousy

Tomorrow we can drive around this town
And let the cops chase us around
The past is gone, but something might be found
To take its place
Hey jealousy
Hey jealousy
Hey jealousy
Hey jealousy

Well, tell me if you think it'd be all right
If I could just crash here tonight
You can see I'm in no shape for driving
And anyway, I've got no place to go
And you know it might not be that bad
You were the best I'd ever had
If I hadn't blown the whole thing years ago
I might not be alone

Tomorrow we can drive around this town
And let the cops chase us around
The past is gone, but something might be found
To take its place
Hey jealousy

Hey jealousy
She took my heart
Well, there's only one thing that I couldn't start

I’m so sorry’.”

The echoes of the ‘Gin Blossoms’ faded away with the clouds and the Sun began to peer into the home.
“Oh, uh,” I must have dozed off there,” the man yawned. He leaned back into his chair as the radio shifted to Iris.
