Work Text:
Deep in the forest, Saria played her song. She sat upon the stump in front of the temple she'd guard and protect. It had already been cleared out, her being eased from the imprisonment of the monster within.
She thought of Link many times, and her music made her feel closer to him. But there were days when she no longer felt as close anymore. Maybe the years had gone by without her notice.
The forest was overgrown, but there was a quietness she was aware of and she allowed her music to fill it.
At least, until one day she decided to speak with another of the Sages. She had skipped her way through the Lost Woods and into a cavern that led her to Death Mountain.
Saria had never used it as much, and when she entered, she can hear the drums playing, the Goron's moving about within. More places to dig, more areas to find for food and home.
"Hello, Darunia," Saria said when she stepped into his sanctuary.
The large Goron, seemingly had aged, and smiled warmly at Saria. "How grand to see you, Saria. All the way out from your woods."
"I wanted to visit, for a short time…I don't want my temple to be troubled by monsters," Saria told him.
Darunia motioned for her to sit on a rock stool, and she did. "Please, Saria, play your music for me."
Saria nodded, and she began to play. She can feel the change in the air, the Goron's outside the room began to dance. And she smiled, playing the tune again and again.
"What are you doing?" Saria asked later in the evening, watching as many Goron's made weapons and armor, and were securing certain entrances.
"The war has yet to end, Saria, and sooner or later, they might come for us too," Darunia said.
Saria watched in silence, her heart raced with anticaption and pain, "I see…I guess it'll be awhile until I can visit."
Darunia's arms were crossed, "Yes, Saria. For the entrance of the woods will be soon covered as well."
"I see," she said, "I understand."
"If they do, go back into the Sacred Realm, do not linger for an ancient temple any longer," Darunia advised.
Saria agreed. And when she went back through the tunnel, she can hear it being covered, and in her own soft sorrow, she played the song as she returned to her temple.
