Chapter Text
ack Abbot preferred the night shift. Not because it was less chaotic or calmer. No, those words were practically antonyms to The Pitt. He felt as though he had found his peace in the night. And by the time the sun rose once more, his shift would end, and the city would roar up again.
He liked most of all his attending, with whom he shared the night. Talia. Talia. God, the thought of her was enough to knock the wind from him. He knows he shouldn’t feel this way about someone 20 years his junior, but it was hard not to. Her intellect, her wit, her charm, beauty and grace. Her. Just her. She drew her in like fire to a moth, and he didn’t care if he got burned. Jack prayed that she didn’t find out.
Though he had missed her. He had taken leave to visit some family overseas and return home to Australia. What he would give to be on vacation.
But he missed her in the ED. A surprising amount. Missed her working beside him during late nights, hearing her talk and ramble during moments of reprieve, and her laugh.
Fuck, he’s pathetic.

Talia fucking loved her job. She would also say she’s pretty good at it. But like, let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Maybe she was a bit of a workaholic, but who isn’t? And even when she was in Punjab for a wedding, and on the beaches of Sydney. She missed work. Missed Pittsburgh.
She was excited that she was going back home. She didn’t feel so odd calling the US home anymore. She had her friends, her work, and Jack. Jack’s not really separate from a friend. But he makes the night shift easier. Not that the night shift was inherently bad, she preferred it.
But oddly, a part of her missed Jack. He had weasled his way into her mind, and she missed him. No one in Australia could remedy it, even the hot guys at the pubs.
Anyway, she loved work, and, god, she didn’t even want to think about all the gossip she missed.
