Summary
Puzzles is still facing the window with his back turned to them, when he cuts WPNZ off.
“I was planning on double-crossing the two of you, you know.”
His voice sounds distracted, or perhaps more accurately, detached. With a healthy hint of hysteria bubbling underneath that level, empty tone. WPNZ doesn’t react right away, merely stares at the turned back for a second or two. Once the words finally register properly in his brain though, he hastily turns towards Toomp, who looks back at him with equal measures of bafflement written in his big eyes.
or. The resident showman was clearly more than just a little bit conflicted on that fated crossroad. So, how about we give him a little helpful push in a different direction?

Another «turn left for the boarder» fix called by the autor themselves. A happy fix it fix if you will;
Puzzles spiraling so badly for so long in that fork in the road, the unintentional push in the right direction by the one and only Wpnz, unknowingly mind you even form the man himself. That eventually reveals Puzzles confession of what he played to do like he did in cannon cus the whole plot was eating Puzzles up alive and «the toaster» as Puzzles played him off as in prison isn’t something he was oh so willing to just discard anymore all Willy nilly… he was driving himself nuts trying to rationalize it all but…
In the end… all Puzzles and Wpnz needed to do was talk. If they had just talked form the get go they’d could have possibly figured something out maybe? Who knows, this is just a diffrent situation form cannon and either way it’s fire and awsome. God I adore so much how this is written
Even if it hasn’t clicked for Puzzles that Wpnz sees him as a friend. The plan that almost lead to the almost direct end to the existence of the universe to make it right for one person and one person alone? It was all avoided cus Wpnz treated Puzzles kindly (reminder, Mr Wpnz is a assassin who dose contract killing probobly most crimes under the sun for a living. Even someone as «evil» or morally messed up like Wpnz, just genuinely someone being kind and caring for Puzzles as a person is all he ever really needed… and they unbeknownst to the other became exactly what the other needed for that. Toomp included of course but there’s a reason Wpnz be Puzzles bond is so genuinely heartfelt regardless of how many heartbreaking and painful twists and turns it makes along the way oof. These two «messed up peas in a pond» aren’t alone anymore. They got their own little trio to take on the world and probably rob some banks while at it lol
