Summary
“That child will not be welcomed by the gods.” It was still her father talking. He still was trying to “talk sense” into her with that soft tone of voice. “If you take that baby in, it’ll never know a happy life.”
It.
Her daughter was an it.
Sadie stared at him. And, a large part of her wanted to ask incredulously. Did they think her life had been bloody sunshine and rainbows? Her father of all people?
Sadie had only been twelve years when she had to pick the world over her family because no one else could put on their big girl knickers and do what needed to be done.
And Sadie, if she was to horribly frank as she often was, wouldn’t choose a different choice but that didn’t mean she didn’t get to be bloody resentful over it.
She wasn’t like Percy. Her choice to put the safety of the world over her family
didn’t end with her getting her parent back and getting to live happily ever after.Sally Jackson was a nice lady; the kind of a person who would take in almost anyone and treat them kindly no matter how much you tried to keep your walls up around her. But the sight of her was like being stabbed and then having to pretend you weren’t injured.
