How many Masks do you Wear?

Summary:

Wemmbu has been living as the Inviable Knight for a while now. He wants nothing to live as a normal player. But will people accept that? How would be react to seeing another side to the Wemmbu? He has people who know who's behind the mask, but does he wear one underneath?

Aka: A found family with Unstable Universe, cause I want one.

Chapter Text

Wandering around a stronghold, ignoring the people around him. This stronghold had become the one he frequently uses. The players who own this stronghold were peaceful and had gotten used to the Invisible knight entering their portal. One of them even gave a few extra inviable potions.

Finally, he found his way to the portal room. Wemmbu took a deep breath before entering the end portal.

Instantly, he was bathed in the freezing temperatures of the end. Wemmbu used to shiver constantly when in the end, but after spending so much time there, he grew used to it. Leaning against one of the walls, Wemmbu took pressure off his burning legs.

The whole purpose of the Invisible Knight's persona was to avoid usual Wemmbu’s problems. Though it seems he was heading straight back to what Wemmbu wanted to escape. Now Wemmbu was pretty sure his identity was still secure. He didn’t know how much he could trust Jayden or Boosfer. Hopefully, they do, and Wemmbu can finally enjoy his life as the Invisible Knight.

Wemmbu whole body ache and scream in protest with each movement. All the adrenaline that had Wemmbu still going all disappeared. He didn’t know why the feeling of the end brought him so much comfort, but he felt a sense of safety. Which was such a foreign feeling for him.

It had been such a long time that he felt safe at all. Had he ever been truly safe before?

“Wemmbu?” Minute’s voice broke his thought process. Wemmbu pushed off the wall and stood tall.

“The one and only.” Wemmbu plastered a wide smile on his face only to remember that Minute can’t see his face. “Got any milk?”

“I started carrying a shulker of milk and invisible potions for you with the number of times you asked for some.” Now Wemmbu didn’t have a forced smile at that.

“Has anyone told you the best?” Wemmbu rushed over to where Minute placed his shulker. He grabbed a bucket of milk and felt the invisible effect slowly dissipate. Wemmbu really understand how the invisible mafia manages to stay invisible all the time. He was always running out, and the potion's taste kept getting worse, leaving him with splash potions that don’t last as long.

“Wemmbu?” Wemmbu noticed how Minute was looking him up and down.

With a glance, Wemmbu noticed how messy and scrappy he looked. His clothes were ripped and stained with dirt and blood. His wings were beyond just a mess. And pushing his hair out of his face, he sees the pig style it had become.

Maybe he should have stayed invisible.

“You know how messy fights can be.” Wemmbu tried to laugh it off, but Minute just counted to stare at him. “It honestly isn’t as bad as it looks?” Wemmbu fiddle with his hands behind his back. He shifted his weight slightly.

Minute only raised an eyebrow.

And before Wemmbu realised he was being pushed over to Minute’s base. Wemmbu was so screwed.

As Wemmbu was led down the stairs, he saw Eggchan bent over the desk, scribbling. He hadn’t even noticed the new presence. Sometimes, Eggchan had the instincts of a goldfish.

“Eggchan, we have a patient.”

“A patient?” Eggchan turned around, and his eyes widened. “Bro, are you okay?”

“Perfect.” Eggchan hummed closer and tugged at his mess of hair.

Wemmbu bit back, pained groan. Eggchan pulled Wemmbu over to the chair and shoved Wemmbu in it. What was with the man handling today?

“Seriously, bro, why do you always have to visit when you’re injured?”

He tries not to! But it seems the universe has other plans. No matter what he seems to do, he also manages to get himself into fights. Sure, he loves to fight; he is, after all, the strongest! But he has no time between fights to recover. Especially the past few weeks.

“Egg, Bro, I’m alright! Just give me a splash potion, and I’ll be brand new.”

Eggchan only huffed and placed down a shulker. “You have enough scars as it is. So, we will do it the proper way. And maybe you learn your lesson.”

Wemmbu glanced inside the shulker box and froze up. This was going to be annoying. He would normally overpower Egg, though the presence of Minute makes that a difficult task to do.

Accepting his fate, he let both of them start to undress him of his armour and start cleaning up the wounds. Wemmbu barely flinched; the pain wasn’t anything new. He has felt close to death so many times that anguishing pain just became another part of life.

Taking a peek behind him, he saw Minute very focused, dressing one of the wounds. Wemmbu didn’t remember the last time he let someone so close that wasn’t Eggchan. Minute, till this day, he hadn’t lied, betrayed or used Wemmbu. Void, he even promised to look after Eggchan. Egg hadn’t been kidnapped in months, a new record to be sure.

Despite how they first met, Wemmbu fault, they have been close. Wemmbu didn’t know how to put their relationship into words. Emotions weren’t his forte. The closest he got was like he was family.

In the end, Wemmbu didn’t mind letting his guard down around him. Even being vulnerable around him. Though it took a lot of effort not to flinch anytime he touched him.

“Hey Wemmbu?” Wemmbu hummed, not really paying attention. “Can I brush your hair? All the offence it's a hot mess.” Wemmbu tried to get his fingers through it, but it instantly got caught. Frowning, he finally felt how uncomfortable his hair felt. How the matts brushed against his skin. How the dirt and grim made his head itch.

Wemmbu used to take great pride in his appearance. Not inch out of order. Oh, how he has fallen.

“Sure.”

Eggchan seemed to beam, and Minute gave Wemmbu a warm smile.

“Do not worry at all, bro. I’m going to make the prettiest princess that ever lived.” Wemmbu only laughed.

Both of them sat opposite each other and worked on Wemmbu’s hair. Both start at the ends.

“Can I cut some of the ends off? You are starting to fray.” Minute pointed out. Wemmbu nodded. Wemmbu didn’t even remember the last time he had cut his hair. Maybe before going to the farlands? Though it was long overdue to cut his ends.

“Honestly, dude, I don’t know how you live with such long hair. But it makes you cooler. Kicking ass and still looking gorgeous. Flamefrags could never.”

Talking about Flamefrags, Minute had been right. He wasn’t the type of person to let his ego be bruised. When Flame had said he was looking for Wemmbu, he had a gut feeling. Of course, he could still win if they fought, but he was actively trying ot avoid that at this point.

Minute at first was being very careful, though soon he relaxed and followed Egg’s lead. Wemmbu slightly hissed at the tugging, mostly around his horns, but it had to be done.

“So what hairstyle are we feeling today? Down, half up? Oh~ a braid?” Egg had always done Wemmbu’s hair. Egg would beg and would never take no for an answer. Wemmbu had just got used to Egg always doing his hair.

“Go crazy.” Eggchan laughed manically before promising they would be right back.

“You sure it’s fine letting Egg do whatever?” Minute had put done the brush and Wemmbu turned around to meet.

“There is only so much he can do.” Eggchan has had his share of weird hairstyles, but if it entertains him, Wemmbu doesn’t care.

“Before we let you get tortured by Egg, we need to change your clothes. Truly, man, you stink.” Minute helped Wemmbu stand up. “I should have some spare clothes that should fit you.”

Minute scavenged around and returned with a black dress shirt and deep purple pants. Wemmbu found them accepted and quickly changed.

“So what led you to be so injured this time around? You hadn’t visited in a while, I was about to hire someone to go find you.”

“Might of fallen into the void-” Minute span around with a look of horror, “turns out under that patch of void was a whole civilisation. Sometimes, even I question my luck. I got stuck down there with Boosfer. I learnt how not to strangle to death because they get on your nerves. Fought with some people. Maybe killed some happy ghasts. Maybe stumbled upon stuff I shouldn’t have. And escape, and Boosfer said he wouldn’t leak my identity, so all is good again.”

Minute hummed clearly, trying to process the word vomit. “I swear only you would stumble upon an ancient civilisation. Void below Wemmbu, I thought the whole Invisible Knight persona was supposed to be you trying to live as a normal player.”

“I know. After all this, I’ve learnt my lesson. I get to actually enjoy it now!” Wemmbu voiced, spinning on his feet.

“Maybe you should stay for a few days. Eggchan has been missing you, and you owe him.”

“Yeah, I guess. Maybe he and I can go explore some of the end islands. It's been a bit since it was just us goofing off.” Wemmbu liked the idea of just hanging out with Eggchan. No building kingdoms, getting revenge, or gaining power, just the two of them having fun.

Talking about Eggchan, he wanders back into the library with a smug expression.

“Go sit at the desk.”

Wemmbu followed his orders and sat on the chair. He took a glance down at the book that Eggchan was working on. He really started to enjoy writing the history of the world. Maybe Wemmbu should invest in learning more about current news so they can inform Eggchan.

Eggchan started to get to work. He started to add a range of beads to Wemmbu’s hair. Gold, amyatehest, diamonds, etc. He then separated the top and bottom of his hair. He braided the top half, leading it into a bun. Adding a golden tiera around the bun. He brushed the bottom of letting it be free.

As always, Eggchan did a fantastic job.

“Looking good, bro! But of course it was I who did it.” Eggchan praised his own work. “So what's your plan now?” Eggchan seemed to slightly deflate and moved to be in Wemmbu’s view.

“I was thinking of staying with you in the end for a couple of days. Would you allow me to be in your presence? Or shall I not be fit to stand anywhere near you?”

“What are you on? I would love for us to hang out! Oh, there is so much we could do. And if you aren’t busy, Minute, would you like to join us?” Eggchan danced around before leaning on Minute.

He only huffed and nodded his head.

“Then it's settled. Yo Minute, got any spare bedding?”

“I should have some. Do you want me to set it up in the spare room?”

“No. My bro and I are gonna have a sleepover. We barely sleep in different rooms. Don’t let him fool you, he is a cuddly bastard.”

“Says you!” Wemmbu stood up and charged at Eggchan. Who only went behind Minute.

“It's the hard, cold truth. Did you know he can purr?” Eggchan had to duck as Wemmbu attempted to claw at him.

“EGGCHAN!” He laughed as they kept up their cat and mouse game around Minute. Minute’s laughter went unnoticed by the other two. Who looked down fondly at them. With them, the end didn’t seem silent and lonely. There was never a dull moment with them. And Minute wouldn’t trade that for anything.

Minute watched as they ran out of the room. Wemmbu would probably chase Egg all around the island until Egg ran out of energy. Minute might have to drag them back to Egg’s room. Well, Egg’s and Wemmbu’s now.

He should set it up for them. Knowing them, they would instantly crash and sleep on the floor.
