Chapter Text

On May 23, 1918, Lieutenant Colin Wentworth snuck through a German trench before slashing one's throat and shooting the other.

He kept his pistol close to his chest as he turned the corner, finding a chest of something. One of the German soldiers groaned and so he shot both to make sure they were dead.

He turned back to the chest, moving debris off of the top. He crouched and opened the top to see bright, golden bars.

He smiled and reached inside, not even noticing his platoon reached him. “We gotta move, Lieutenant!” PFC Manes yelled.

Colin ignored him and fondled a gold bar in his hands, “L.D!” Manes again. “I think the war is over for us, boys,” Colin said quietly.

Six months later, on November 23, 1918, The Great War had been over for twelve days. Colin sat in a chair as Manes gave Jones a drink. “Someone's stealing the gold,” Colin said.

Both friends ignored him, “There's a bar missing, I know it!” Colin shouted. Manes turned to him, “I counted this morning, it's all there.” Colin waved his arm, “Then we need to recount it!”

Manes started yelling, “Why! Who is trying to take it?! There's no one around here for miles! Nobody even knows it's here but us!” Colin stopped and realized something, grabbing his gun as he did.

“Yeah, the only people who know about it are right here," he said. He cocked his pistol, getting the attention of Jones. Manes started backing up, “We're your friends, Colin.”

Colin smirked, “That's right… We're friends.” He shot Manes in the brain and when Jones tried to run, Colin shot him through the heart.
