So, her mum wasn’t perfect. Hilda could kind of understand where she was coming from in her protective thought processes; more importantly, this meant that Johanna was trying to come around, to overcome her own anxieties and be more open-minded.
This would make for the perfect picnic tomorrow, just the five of them–actually six, including Zs’Skayr, which was almost its own whole conversation. He probably wouldn’t introduce himself then, given the sunny forecast, but Hilda would cross that bridge when they came to it. So long as nothing went wrong between now and then, her mum could learn to accept the watch.
Hilda's watch can't tell time, but she knows that she's ready to let her mum know about her new powers. But when a number of things, much of it the fallout of the ceremony the day before, threaten the coming picnic, Hilda may come face-to-face with some unpleasant truths about how the world works
