Chapter Text
Soft buzzing echoes through your bedroom, signaling a start to the new day. You roll over to the alarm sitting on the night stand and turn it off. You get up out of bed and groggily walk over to your closet. You try your best to search through your clothing, but it’s too dark to see. Looking back at the big bedroom window you notice how little light is passing through. You don’t pay it any mind and just turn on a light to make up for the absence of sunlight.
After finishing getting dressed you head to the bathroom to finish getting ready. While you finish up doing your hair you hear a car pull out of the driveway and leave. You make the assumption that your father went to work. It strikes you as strange since he doesn’t start for another three hours, but you just assume they needed him to come in early.
Once you're happy with your appearance you make your way to the dining room to eat some breakfast. As you enter you notice your father sitting at the table going through some paperwork. Questioning if what you heard earlier was real or not, you sit at the table and start to eat the breakfast that was prepared earlier. Your father looks up from his paperwork and brings your attention to him.
“Well kiddo, looks like we’re spending the day together per your mother's request,” he grumbles. You spring up at the news of a skip day, but find it odd that your father is allowing it. He is normally very stern about going to school, so allowing you to skip is worrying.
“Really, why?” you question in a concerned tone.
“Your mother got called in this morning and it sounded pretty serious. Mixed with the telltale warning signs in the sky she thinks it’s best not to leave the house today,” he explained.
Looking out the small kitchen window you notice the strange clouds that cover the sky. At first sight they look like normal storm clouds, but taking a closer look you can see a bit of red hue in them. You start putting two and two together. Your mother leaving for work in a panic on her day off and the subtle abnormal red hue in the storm clouds can only mean one thing.
It’s Feeding Day.
Feeding days are the most gruesome days of the year. They normally happen once every one to three months. With a name like Feeding Day, it’s easy to assume everything that happens on those days. Creatures come out in their true form and clench their hunger on people. That’s what the public knows. All other details of the creatures are only available for high government officials and a select team of scientists. Luckily your father's position in the government is high enough for him to access the information to share with you and your mother.
According to official documents, the creatures are mostly human. On most days they look just like any normal human. It’s when the strange clouds cover the sky they have a choice to turn into their creature form. Creature forms can vary from creature to creature. It’s almost rare to find creatures that have various similar features as another creature. They can vary in size, shape, color, and features.
Their human form on the other hand is just normal. It's impossible to tell if a person is one of the creatures in their human form. This small piece of information is forbidden from being released to the public for safety. If it were to get out, then total chaos would erupt through the country.
The strangest part is that they can only go into their creature form when those supernatural clouds roll in and start storming. There is no information of how these clouds form since so many of the tests that were done on them revealed that they are the same as a normal cloud. There is still the mystery of what the red hue in them are. There is also no info of why it’s only on those days specifically when they're storming.
The only other information they were able to gather is the reason why they feast on human flesh. From various interrogations with a few of these creatures, they were told that they only have the constant feeling of starvation. Regular food doesn’t satisfy their hunger. The only way they found that can clench it is human flesh, but only if they are eating it in their creature form. The more they eat, the longer they stay full.
“I see. I’m surprised that it’s happening so soon. The last one was barely a month ago. With it happening so soon I would think that you would be brought to work immediately instead of them giving you the day off,” you state, trying to sound calm.
You can’t help but slightly panic on the inside. The fact that your father was able to take the day off is very concerning. He never was able to take the day off for Feeding Day. It's the most important day for him and his colleagues to gather more information on them. The fact that he doesn’t trust you being home alone when you live in a very heavily secured neighborhood is concerning.
“Well it's more like half. I still need to go this evening so you'll be on your own then,” he softly explained.
“If you're working today then why do you look so nervous? You know that I'll be fine alone and I can defend myself if needed,” you shoot back. He hesitates giving you a response, but when you address the issue again he sits up with a serious look on his face. Letting out one final sigh he reluctantly explains why.
“We got some evidence from the last few Feeding Days that there are two creatures in our area. There are some witnesses that gave matching descriptions about them. Judging just by the descriptions that were given, you mother and I are a bit worried. Especially since there are reports of them hunting together. Trust me when I say that you don’t have a chance against them.”
You slump into your chair with the news. “Well I think I have a chance. I’ve been practicing, so I’ll be fine,” you pout.
“I don’t think you can take on these two creatures. From the evidence we’ve seen Sun and Moon are no joke,” he chuckled as he took a sip of his coffee. You raise an eyebrow at what he said.
“Sun and Moon? Is that what they're called?”
“Correct. According to some witnesses, they would call each other those names. Which is very surprising since we never heard any creatures speak at all. So that makes it even more dangerous if they also have some of their human conscience in their creature forms. So you're not leaving the house today and that’s final.”
You’re fine with that anyways, but you are worried about your friends since they can’t tell when Feeding Day is. You finish up your breakfast and excuse yourself to your bedroom to make a few calls to them. Since they all go to different schools you have to call every single one of them separate. None of them can skip so you take your time with each call to remind them of what to expect and how they could defend themselves. You savor every second of the call since this could be the last time you ever talk to them.
About forty five minutes later you finish up all the calls and make your way back to the dining room. As you walk in you see your father in the middle of a phone call with your mother. From the tone he’s using, he is clearly frustrated about something. He notices you and quickly finishes the call. Once he hangs up he turns to you and puts on a calm appearance. He walks over to place a firm hand on your shoulder.
“I have some bad news kiddo. The school just called me asking where you were. I tried to give a good excuse for your absence, but unfortunately they didn’t care. You apparently took off the maximum amount of days, so they need you to come in. I tried to argue with them but they threatened expulsion.” he quietly explained.
A pit grows in your stomach to the news. You did take a few days off due to Feeding Day, but you didn’t think it was that many to where you are at risk of expulsion. Did none of your father’s excuses worry them? He can’t say anything about the signs for Feeding Day, so he has to come up with a few extreme excuses for your absence. Not a single one of their staff saw any warning signs from them?
There is also the issue of not having a weapon to defend yourself with in school. You’re not allowed to bring in any of your self defence weapons for obvious reasons, so you would be defenseless during a hunt.
“Grab your stuff and we will head out. Just make sure you have your phone on you at all times just in case. If there are any signs of a creature nearby, call me immediately,” he said sternly with a hint of worry.
Nodding your head in agreement you walk over to the door to grab your bag. You head out with your father trailing behind you. You pray that you won’t die today.
-
Walking up to the front doors you can’t help but to stare up at the clouds. You had to admit it was quite pretty. You do feel bad that most people can’t tell the difference between these and normal storm clouds. You also couldn’t tell the difference for the longest time until your mother helped you. With her working in the ER, she had to learn the signs so she could prepare for the horrors that awaited her.
Walking into the building you immediately met with the principal standing next to the front desk, tapping his foot in annoyance. He walks up to you and hands you a tardy slip, motioning his hand to the hallway trying to get you to your next class.
You slowly make your way to class, trying not to get lost. Your parents transferred you to in person high school last semester so you do get a little loss on your way. Doing most of your schooling online your parents grew weary of how shy you got. To be fair you did lose some of your social skills, but you never were shy.
When you started you did talk to any kid that came up to you needing something though that's where any interaction ends. You don’t go out of your way to make any friends here. If someone offered their friendship to you you wouldn’t say no. Though no one did, which is fine to you. You have your small group of friends and that’s enough for you.
As you entered the classroom everyone stared at you. You notice a wave of relief wash on some of the kids' faces. Walking to your seat you can hear some kids whispering to each other about your arrival. Guess this confirms that people think the rumors about you are true.
Since you skip school every Feeding Day people speculate that you somehow know when there will be one, which is true but they can’t know that. It also doesn’t help that your father works for the part of the government that helps out with the research of the creatures. Because of this whenever you aren’t in school people start to get worried. It also means that people mostly stay away from you. You would think it would be the opposite but no.
You ignore all of it and have a seat. You pull out everything you need and listen to whatever the teacher is teaching.
-
After finishing third period you make your way to the cafeteria for lunch. On the way two people catch your eye, Solis and Callisto. They are standing near their lockers whispering about something. You slide off to the other side and lean your back against the wall. You pull out your phone and quickly text one of your friends.
“Hey! I need help. Both of you know who is nearby. Should I try to ask them out or just go on with my day.”
You send the message and look back over at them while contemplating your choices. You had a small thing for the two ever since your first day. To most people they’re about average, but not to you.
With Solis you found him really pretty. His fluffy blond hair, freckles splattered across his face, and his tall twinkish build makes him appear really cute to you. Paired with different sweater vests he wears giving him a more soft appearance. You would think that it would reflect with his personality, but no. He was mostly cold and distant to anyone who approached him. Though he is a little nicer towards you but still a little distant.
Callisto on the other hand is well… hot. Whether it’s from his long black hair with a large white streak of hair resting on the left side of his face, the vitiligo that covers his body, or just his tall lanky build that was mostly hidden behind a giant hoodie, there is just something that drew you to him. His personality though is almost the opposite of Solis’s. He was a lot more friendly towards people. Though like Solis he also keeps his distance.
You have tried to gain the confidence to ask either of them out but run into a few problems. The first being if they’re together or not. You see them together all the time which doesn’t mean they're together. It’s some of their subtle interaction between the two that makes you question their relationship. You see them holding hands when no one is watching and holding at each other's waist when navigating through the busy halls. There are also rumors of them being seen doing more sexual stuff. You don’t 100% believe it since you haven’t seen them doing what people have described and they themselves haven’t confirmed that they’re dating. So you’re scared to ask about it since it would be weird to just walk up and ask if they are dating. Sure it would save the future embarrassment of you finding out the hard way, but where is the fun in that.
The other issue is who you would ask out. They both are your type so choosing between the two is impossible. You thought about just flipping a coin to just get it over with but that doesn’t feel like the right decision. You just decided to either ask both of them out to see what happens or ask whoever you gain the courage to out first.
A notification sound snaps you out of your thoughts and you open the new message.
“YES! I mean you know what today is so now would be the perfect time. What if a creature attacks you or them today, then you're going to regret not shooting your shot. And don’t give me that bullshit of them aggressively turning you down. From how you described them they would let you down easy. If you do get turned down then I’ll go out and do something with you so you can forget about it. So when I call you tonight I better hear that you ask either Solis, Callisto, or both out.”
They are right about something happening today. This could be your or their last day so why wait. And now if they turn you down then you at least have someone to hang out with after.
With your new found confidence you look back up to see that they’re both gone. You look down the hall to see if you can see the giants anywhere, but they seem to vanish. You assume that they went to the cafeteria, so you continue to make your way there while putting your phone back in your pocket.
When you're about halfway there you try to think of ways to ask them out. Going over every possible outcome that can happen, when you catch your reflection on a locker and see how much of a mess your hair is. You probably unknowingly messed with your hair when waiting for your friend to respond. You can’t possibly ask them out looking like this. You see the restroom in the distance and quickly enter to clean yourself up.
After a few minutes of fixing your appearance you can hear some yelling coming from down the hall. You assume that it’s the problematic kids making another problem for everyone. You choose to ignore it and continue messing with your hair, when suddenly the power shuts off.
You freeze in place as everything goes dark. You hear a lot of screaming coming from all over the school. You can’t focus on that at the moment as sound from the ceiling draws your attention. You slowly move your head up to hear something hitting the ceiling. You’ve heard this sound millions of times before. It’s the sound of rain hitting the ceiling with thunder crackling in the background.
Shit
Not wanting to take any chances you run to the door to lock it. You hear a stampede of footsteps coming towards the restroom. You try and lock it to be immediately pushed to the ground as a group of girls shove their way in. Before anyone else can enter they shut and lock the door. The people who were unfortunately behind them bang on the doors pleading to be let in.
You quickly get off the floor and take in the situation you got yourself into. You try to think of any other possible reason for what is currently happening. There is no way that a creature attack would be happening at a high school. It would be too risky for them.
The panic coming from the girls snap you out of your thoughts and decide to look for something to barricade the door with. You see a chair sitting in the corner for some odd reason. You rush over to grab it and throw it under the door handle. Sure it might not work if a creature were to come break down the door, but it should be enough for now.
You turn your attention back to the girls to see if any of them needed any medical assistance. You see three girls huddling around another smaller girl on the floor. You cautiously walk up to them and see the state of the small girl’s ankle, it was very red and swollen. You guessed that she might have gotten trampled when trying to find a safe place. You unfortunately don’t have anything that can help her. You instead look around to see if there are any escape routes that you all can take.
You open one of the stalls to find a very small window near the ceiling. It’s so small that a normal size person can’t fit through. The hurt girl though might be small enough to fit through. It would be safer for her to run to find help than to stay here and hide. Rushing back over the girls and trying to explain to them what you found they seem to ignore you and try to get their phones working.
“There’s no signal! What do we do!” one of the girls screamed.
“I can’t get anything to work! We’re going to die!” another yelled.
So they not only took out the power lines but also the nearby cell towers. Your plan on contacting your father is now out the window. The only way that you can get help now is the small girl escaping and getting help.
“Will you all get the fuck off your phones and look for a way to escape or maybe shut the fuck up so that the monster won’t hear us!” the small girl screamed.
The girls seem to ignore her and continue to try to get their phones working. You kneel down next to the girl and help her up. You guide her over to the stall and direct her attention to the window.
“You see that window up there. I think you’re just small enough to fit through it. After you get out you need to run to the closest building and get help. Do you have something that I can write with?”
She nods and hands you a pen. You grab a square of toilet paper and write down your father’s number. You hand it to her while giving instructions of what she needs to say once she calls that number. You see the panic start to rise in her as she realizes the gravity of the situation. You gently place your hands on her shoulders and try to comfort her.
You ask if she’s ready and with her nod of confidence you kneel down right below the window. You cup your hands together to hold them out to the girl. She takes a deep breath and steps her good foot onto your hands. You boost her upward as she reaches up for the window. She grabs the ledge and pushes the window open. She squeezes her way through with a thud sound following after. You check if she's ok, which she is for the most part. The sounds of her trying to run can be heard getting farther.
You start to get back up when the other girls start to rush towards you. One of the girl’s hands pushes your shoulder downward as she steps in your hand to gain some height. Before she can even grab the window another girl grabs her shirt and yanks her down and takes her place. The third girl then repeats the action of the second girl. All three of them start to push and pull each other while stepping on you for leverage.
The sounds of the girls screaming at each other fills the room. In the background it’s not that much better. You can’t make out any of the words being screamed at outside the door. The hard banging drowns them out.
You get overwhelmed and end up rolling under the wall to the next stall. You take a few seconds to breathe and shake off the pain on your hands. You hear the sound of one of the girls climbing on the toilet and trying to squeeze through the window. After followed by more screaming from the other girls. They all scream over top of each other, until the banging and screaming from the other side of the restroom door stops.
“Suck in your stomach some more so we don’t die because of your fat ass!” one of the girls shouted.
“This is why I should have gone first. Now I'm going to die because of your selfishness!” the other girl yelled.
You peek your head back under the stall and see that one of the girls got themselves stuck in the window. The others push on her to try to get her through, but only get her more stuck. You thought about going to help her when a sound from the hallways makes you freeze in your place.
“SOMEONE HELP ME PLEA-”
Crunch
There are a few me screams of students telling others to run for their lives before they all die down with crunching noises being replaced. The few voices of students are now absent and replaced by what you assume to be a creature enjoying its caught meal.
The girls in the next stall start to pull on the stuck girl in panic as they raise their voices. You move yourself back and up against the wall as small tears trickle down your face. You’re now stuck with a creature that is currently hunting right outside in the hallway with no way out. You can only hope that their caught meals are enough to satisfy their hunger.
You sit there listening to all the commotion until the crunching stops. You slowly rise up and step towards the stall door. You grip your hand on the handle and get ready to pull the door open.
BAM!
The sound radiates from something slamming against the restroom door. You immediately let go and stumble backwards from the sound. The girls go silent for a moment before screaming even louder. They start to yank hard on the stuck girl as she yells louder in pain.
There are a few more slamming against the door before you can think straight. Moving quickly you step up onto the toilet and crouch so your head can’t be seen over the top. Thinking of what you could possibly do to get out alive is cut short.
The doors burst open with one final slam against it. In a few seconds the creature rushes over and bites one of the girls. As she drops to the floor as the other girl lets go and tries to crawl under to the stall you're in. She doesn’t make it that far as she is easily crushed by a giant paw. Claws peek through the dark blue fur and quickly slices into her. They ignore the stuck girl for now and feast on the two caught girls.
You jump off the toilet and push yourself under all the stalls as quietly as you can. A single sound could get you chomped. When you reach the last stall you slowly open the door to try and make a break for it. When it opens your met with a long thin tail with a white crescent moon shape at the end of it, swinging sporadically like an excited puppy.
You crouch down as you try to find an opening. As you get ready to run a grueling scream can be heard from the stuck girl. The creature's body suddenly starts to yank back a couple of times. You decide to take the chance while they are distracted and make a run for it.
Taking the first few running steps you feel something wrap around your leg. It pulls you back causing you to fall. You look back at your leg and see that the tail has wrapped around it. You grab the tail and try to unwrap it. The screams of the girl get louder and the jerking gets stronger. There are bone cracking sounds following quietly behind.
Your bottom half suddenly lifts up in the air and the creature's stance changes to be more stable. The tail then flings back down with one last jerk. The room is surrounded by the girl’s screams as you hear her fall on the grass on the other side. Her cries are covered up by that same bone crunching sound from earlier.
The tail loosens just enough to get a full grip on it. You're able to pull it loose just enough to slip your foot out. You take off running, not daring to look at the mess behind you. You run in the direction where the creature was earlier in hopes they won’t come back the way they came.
You see a classroom door wide open with something pooling out of it. Though you already know what it is, you just choose to ignore it for your sanity. You rush in and close the door as quietly as you can behind you. You see a lanyard with some keys attached to it in an open desk draw. You grab them and push every key in the door until one clicks its lock.
Your fearful mind starts to take control of your body. It starts to violently shake, wanting to collapse. You can feel the puke forming in your throat from the thoughts of what just occurred. You want to sit in the corner and cry your heart out, but you don’t.
You swiftly move to the window, missing the pools of blood on the floor. Grabbing a book from the floor you get ready to smash it. You move your hand back to prepare to throw the book when you notice something covering it. Pressing your hand against the window, it feels warmer than it should. You rethink about the temperature when you were walking in and remember how cold it was. It should definitely feel at least a little chilly to the touch. You take a closer look to find something covering it. It is hard to see it with how clear the substance is. You just hope when you hop through the broken window you don’t get any of it on you.
You once again wound the book back and throw it at the window. It bounces off the window with a small bonk sound following. Guess these windows are thicker than you thought. Looking around the classroom for something heavier to throw you notice that lack of bodies. The room is covered in blood, but there is no flesh other than yourself in it. You let it go for now and focus on the mission at hand. Your eyes land on a nearby chair. Grabbing it you repeat the same action with similar results.
You huff out a frustrated breath as you approach the window again. Listening for any movement outside for clearance, you start to throw your body at the window. You throw almost every part of your body at it for it to not even crack.
You examine the glass, trying to find at least a chip but there’s nothing. There should have been at least some kind of damage. Your dad trained you to be strong enough to break through glass in case of this very emergency. So why is the window still completely intact? Could the strange substance have something to do with that?
Looking back at the room to see if there is anything else you could use a sudden movement catches your eye. The door handle slowly moves downward then flings back up. It repeats for a few times before stopping completely.
Quietly inching yourself further away from the door as your foot decides not to lift itself over a backpack. You trip with a loud thud as you crash against the floor, thankfully avoiding the nearby desk and chairs.
Planting your hands on a desk in preparation to boost yourself up, you hear something fall behind you. You push yourself up and turn to see what falls, when your blood runs cold with what you see. The initial lock door is now open with its handle on the floor. Near the handle is a single large pawprint of some kind in blood.
Your hand waves to the side trying to grab onto something as you continue to stare at the doorway. You manage to grab a small cylindrical object as you take a few steps back. For a split second something brushes against your back. You move swiftly as you swing the object back and sporadically swing it around with closed eyes. Your arm stops swinging as you feel something enclose your arm.
You can feel something hard pressing lightly around the wrist and upper arm. Something slimy warps around the middle crook of your arm. You know exactly what is wrapped around your arm. Your brain refuses to let you open your eyes in fear of what you would see. You tense with anticipation of your blood to start flowing out with the pain.
A low growl from the restraints kicks your brain back on. You go to action as you grab onto a nearby chair and swing hard at the creature. The restraints loosen with the impact. Ripping your arm out you book it out the door. Though you caught a glimpse of the creature, it was mostly a yellow blur. If you remember correctly the creature that was in the restroom was mostly blue and white from what you could see. You push the thought back as you focus on running.
Soft patter follows behind heavy footsteps you leave behind. Spotting the lobby area you suck in more air and sprint faster. The patter gets softer the closer you get. Once the front desk gets within a few feet you swan dive behind it. Quickly looking for a better hiding spot your eyes land on the small open section of the desk. There is a box in it, so you pull it out and place yourself in the section while pulling the box back in front of it to hide you better.
Your hand covers the lower half of your face as the sound of soft pitter-patter of footsteps creep closer. The steps go silent once they reach the lobby area. The small light from a little crack at the top suddenly disappears. You peak through it to see that same color from before. It passes by too quickly to fully make out the creature, but you could sorta make out what appears to be a leg.
Then the thought from earlier rings in your head again. You try to remember what the creature from the restroom looks like. You didn’t pay attention to what the creature looked like, but you did remember the colors and they don’t match..
Denial and realization starts to hit. There is no way that there are two creatures currently hunting in your school. There have only been very few reports of creatures hunting in packs.
Crashing of objects fall around you as soft clicking rummages around the surrounding area. You most definitely anger the creature by hitting it with the chair. But what else were you supposed to do? Let them make a meal out of you?
You try looking through the crack again to see if you could make out any more parts of it. Maybe it’s just small enough for you to be able to take the creature head on. Then you remember how the creature restrained your arm. Yeah no, you can’t fight the creature and win.
Harsh breaths rush down the halls as thumping feet seem to track them. A few screams are let out before being silenced within an instant. Where there is normally crunching that would follow, it instead was replaced with loud growls. The nearby chirping seems to get louder as a response to the growls.
Welp there are two of them. And they seem to be hunting together. You’re fucked.
The light from the crack is blocked out again, but you can hear the chirping at floor length. When it stops for the other to respond with more growls, you can hear it sniff towards you. You hold your breath with anticipation. It starts to paw lightly at the opening. Pushing yourself as far back as you can, some fur from its paw peek through the crack. You stare as the claws peek through the fur and into the box.
“SUN!” the other creature roared down the hallway.
The paw stops and then retreats out. You can hear some quiet whimpering as it passes you and move towards what you assume is the second creature. They didn’t last long as soon the crunching came to replace it.
Repositioning yourself you try to remember the layout halls knowing if you don’t move then you might be the next crunch. You silently move the box as you survey the area. Crawling around the desk you can clearly see the two creatures.
Your eyes first land on the tail that grabbed you earlier. Looking down it you notice that the base of it is covered with white fur. It stretches down his back and thighs. It looks like a similar texture of a wolf's fur. Their lower leg, chest, and stomach fur appears to be more fluffy as with the change of color. It appears to be a darkish blue but in the light it might appear lighter. Though its shade is different from the tail, which appears much darker.
Moving to the face you can see why they are called Moon. One half of the face is the same as their tail, while the other is the same white crescent shape. The eyes almost blend in with the red liquid that covers the lower face. Sat loosely on their head is some sort of night cap. The brim of the hat is white, while the crown is the same darkish blue with bright yellow stars scattered around.
Moving to observe the other he has a similar build to Moon. The tail is instead much fluffier with a dark red color wagging high in the air. His body is mostly pale yellow fur. The fur there more matches to a cougar. The ankles and the chest is covered with red fur. Their face are a similar shape to their buddy. One side is pale yellow while the other is a more bright shade of yellow. Instead of having a night cap they have what looks like very bright yellow rays around their head. It makes sense that they are called Sun.
Your eyes fall downward to see a few bodies of your fellow classmates mangled together on the floor. You watch as Sun bows his head to grip on an arm and rips it off before scarfing it down. Looking away you grip your arm that they had previously held, trying not to imagine what would have happened if you didn’t hit them with that chair.
Off to the side you notice the entrance doors standing tall. This could be your chance to escape. The only problem is you would have to run past the hallway the two creatures are currently occupying. But if you don’t move then once they finish the sun creature will come back to butcher you.
You check the creature to see that they had their backs to you and make a run for it. You hold your breath as you silently sprint towards the doors. Reaching the doors you stop in your tracks. The same substance that was on the window is smeared against the entire doors. You reach out to touch it, but halts when rustling starts behind you. Panicking, you grip the handle and try to turn it, though it doesn’t budge.
Look back, your eyes meet with Sun’s. Now that you can see them you notice they don’t have any pupils. You’re just staring at the white void of their eyes. They sneak to you like a cat sneaking up on its prey. You try letting go, but the goop keeps it in place. No matter how hard you pull you can’t seem to get free. You’re a fly stuck in a glue trap.
You look between Sun and your hand as panic rises in you. Trying to yank your hand free the solar creature creeps closer until they’re just a few feet away. You try to find something around you to defend yourself with while yanking harder. There are a few more chairs around, but they aren’t within reach.
Looking back at the creature your eyes meet nothing. Quickly scouting the nearby surroundings for any signs of them the same slimy feely from before slithers across your hand. You swivel around with a fist following behind. You swing to only be met with the impact of the air. Looking at the fist the realization hits you. Your hand is unstuck and covered in the unidentifiable goop.
You stare at it for a few seconds before wiping it on a nearby wall. Once most of it is smeared off you remember what is happening around you. You remember who’s currently hunting you.
Your body freezes as your eyes frantically dart around. You're in a mostly open area so there is nowhere they could hide. Shuffling to a nearby chair you grab the head of it. Surely if it worked the first time then maybe it could defend you a second time if needed. Repeating this for extra confidence you inch your way back to the hallway.
Since the front doors are stuck close you have to make your way to the only other exit. One problem is that it’s in the gymnasium which is on the other side of the school. The other problem is that there is a chance that it’s also covered in the goo. Unfortunately it’s your only way out of this hell.
Stopping at the corner you do a quick clearance look before heading down the hall. You cling your back against the wall as you move. The horrid scene has disappeared with the only trace left being the blood of that poor unfortunate soul. You keep moving through the hall though, ignoring any other blood ponds you encounter.
You manage to sneak your way through most of the hall. You did struggle to pass by the classrooms. Every door has been broken open and you can only imagine the horrid scene that lies inside. You let your legs guide you forward before your thoughts can craft together the scenes.
With a few more steps the gymnasium doors appear within your view. Your stomach twists and turns at the sight. The chair you carry starts to feel heavier. You try your best to push away those feelings back as you approach the doors.
Taking the last step in front of the doors muffled sounds pool out the cracks. You set the chair to the side as your ear presses against the door. The sounds are a swirl of people yelling and thumping of some kind. Backing away the silence of the hallway hits you with a realization.
You never encountered either creature after the last interaction with the sunny creature. On your way to the gymnasium however you would hear them chase and catch their meals. You would always hide and wait for them to pass. Now here you stand in the empty hallway in complete silence. The only sounds that scurry about in the building are behind those doors.
A shiver shoots down your spine as the air thickens in your lungs. A small curse spews between your lips as you try to steady yourself. Your mind is a garble of static that starts to slowly fizzle out with each heavy breath you take. The noise seems to get quieter the more time you spend on panicking. If you want to live you need to make a choice now.
You have two choices that are put in front of you. The first being to hide in a room that had already been cleared out and hope that they don’t do another lap around. Though with the rain pounding the roof harder than earlier, you can’t tell when this nightmare will end. So being a sitting duck might be less than ideal.
The only other option would be to make a run for the exit, which is currently being blocked. There are no other options left to choose though, so you’re stuck with this one. On the bright side, they seem to be distracted with their running prey so you could pass undetected.
Without giving it any more consideration you grab the chair and creak open the door. Your head pokes through as you observe the scene set in front of you. Many different students running around the court with the celestial creatures close on their tails. They struggle to stay upright with the amount of crimson liquid spewed on the floor. The door of your freedom seems to be clean of the clear goop. This is your one chance of escaping.
You enter the gymnasium with your trusty chair, sticking to your earlier strategy of sticking to the wall, you inch towards the doors. Your eyes track your path ahead, occasionally glancing at the creatures till they get their claws on their next prey. Though when you almost watch Moon chop off one of the student’s heads you decide that your only focus should be on the exit.
Picking up your pace you lift the chair and get ready to throw it at the door if needed, when you feel a tug on it. Swiveling around you almost loses your grip on the chair as a student tries to pull it free. They don’t say anything to you and instead start to fight you for the chair. Not wanting to lose the only weapon against the creature you whisper for him to let go as you fight back. He doesn’t let up though as they then try to kick you in desperation.
The fight breaks up as Moon pounces on the boy, causing you to go flying into some nearby bleachers. You fall onto the floor as the pain from the impact starts to swell. You try to get back up, but the pain glues you to the floor. All you can do is look around at the bloodshed of your fellow students.
Not wanting to be next, you drag yourself under the bleachers. You do a quick assessment of your environment and it’s not good. Most of the kids that were alive when you came in are now dead. You can only guess how little time you have before you’re the only one left.
You can’t run with how much your pain you’re in and you’ll be chased down within seconds. All you can do is to stay put and hide. Maybe they ate most of the people in the school so they might be full and forget about you. Most likely not, but it doesn’t hurt to hope.
You crawl in a more hidden position while pulling out your phone. To your relief when you turn it on the messages from your friend are still up. There is no service so the message won’t go through right away. If you are going to die though you should still try to leave a goodbye message for the people you care about.
You type the message as fast as you can, and as you're about to send it the bleachers are thrown to the side. You are suddenly tossed to the middle of the gym with Moon holding you down with one of his paws. You both stare at each other, waiting for the other to make the first move. You knew though that there is no way out of this.
Glancing back to the bleachers to see Sun circling something on the ground. They make some fast clicking sound at the object. You look back up at Moon who moved his head to be inches away from you. Your body shudders as the fur tickles your face. Closing your eyes, you prepare for the worst. Tears prickle out as the pressure on your chest squishes you more. You can’t do anything but wait for your impending death.
Then the pressure releases. You don’t move at first, your body turning into a statue, until you're broken out of it when low growls join in with the clicks. Not wanting to waste this chance you spring back up and do another quick assessment of the scene. You were the only human left in the gym. The entrance is now completely glued shut.
You glance over to the creatures who are staring at the object. Taking a closer look you notice that they are fixated on your phone. You don’t have time to react as Sun picks up your phone and barges out through the exit. Moon follows behind them, stopping at the exit to look back at you before leaving.
You stand there in astonishment. They let you live. They had you pinned and they could have easily made a meal out of you, but they didn’t. Not to mention they just stole your phone. Your brain tries to wrap itself around why. You don’t move for a long time, just long enough for the rain to stop. When you focus back onto the situation you rush out of the building.
Running around the school your leg gives out from under you. You crash into some bushes and tumble out into a small wooded area. The pain in your leg surges as you clutch it to your chest. You look back at the bush you fell through when you notice something in them. You squirm towards the bush and start to pull it out to see that it’s clothing. Pulling out all the clothing you realize that they belong to Solis and Callisto.
You don’t have any time to question it as you hear voices heading your way. You know you should make yourself known for your safety, but your gut tells you to hide. With the voices being only a few feet away, you push yourself up and hide yourself behind some nearby trees. As they get closer you're able to hear them a lot clearer for you to process who they are.
“That went better than we planned. Wouldn't you say Moonie?” one chirped up.
A happily deep sigh escapes from the other.
“Yeah. We got all of them except for one, but that’s fine.”
Your hands clutch onto your clothing as the pieces start to fix together. Pain starts to form in your chest as the betrayal sets in, followed by being hit with a huge wave of nausea.
Solis falls to the ground whining, “I’m so full. How long do you think it will last?”
“Hmm~ maybe a little over a year. Maybe a little less. Now will you get up and get dressed before the cops get here,” Callisto laughed.
They both quickly get dressed while you try to silently sneak away. You're able to make a good distance away from them to be able to hear some sirens rapidly approaching the school. You mess with the Solis clothing in your hand and… wait. Looking in your hand Solis’s sweater vest sits scrunch up in it. You look back at the bushes to see them rustling frantically. Needing to make the decision between keeping it or giving it back, but risking getting caught, you end up just stuffing it in your shirt.
You’re able to run to the front of the school and to your relief cops already there. For the next half an hour you explain to the cops the events that unfolded until your father arrived. Once you were handed off to him he rushed you to the car to get you to the nearest hospital. As you look out the window you see Callisto and Solis talking to some officers. They acted genuinely scared about what happened which twisted your stomach. When Callisto notices you he gives you a pity smile and wave. Your vision goes spotty as you look away before succumbing to all the stress and passing out.
