Chapter Text
You lie on your bed as you stare up to the ceiling. Your eyelids feel heavy, but you force them open. You know the second you close them your mind would replay those horrific events. Instead for the past couple of days you stay locked in your room trying to distract your mind.
Unfortunately since you are one of the four survivors news outlets have been trying to get in contact for some interviews. You had to isolate yourself in your room to get away from all the cameras.
Your parents took care of everything for you as you rested. Since this incident your father had been made commander of the leading investigation. Though with what you hear when he returns home, it looks like they’re coming up empty handed.
Your mother has been dealing with all the concerned family members and friends. She also has been checking in to make sure you're eating. She has tried to get you to talk about what happened but you would shake your head. So she always left it with that knowing you would talk when you were ready.
This only leaves you with the problem of Solis and Callisto. You have kept your mouth shut about their identities since that day. Your brain screams at you to tell someone about your findings, but your heart stops you. The past few days have been an ongoing war between the two.
You get up to open a window, taking in the fresh air. Looking up at the night sky you run over every interaction you had with them. All the ones from before the incident were mostly positive. Then going over the incident they tried to kill you, or maybe not since Callisto did spare you.
That has been the part that you can’t seem to wrap your brain around. How could they go from hunting you like a fox hunting a bunny, to dogs getting distracted by a squirrel and forgetting their objective. Your only theory you had was that they ran out of time, since it did stop raining when you escaped.
When you focus back on your surroundings you hear some chatting at the front door. Your father seems to be chatting with some people, journalists most likely. You begin to go back into your hiding hole when your brain fully registers who he is talking to, Solis and Callisto. Leaning out the window you try to listen to the conversation.
“We just want to check in with them to see if they are ok sir,” Solis spoke calmly.
“Look boys, it's nice that you want to see them, but they aren’t in the right state of mind for company right now,” your father argued back.
With that you close your window and throw yourself back onto your bed. Thankfully your father is a very stubborn person, so if he made up his mind no one can convince him otherwise. You know that you will have to face them some time in the future, but for now you decide that you could use some more rest. Curing up in the blanket, you feel yourself start to drift off when a soft knock comes from your door. You ask who it is and you hear your mother on the other side asking if she could come in. Thinking that she’s just bringing you more food you get up and open the door to let her in. When you open it you see your mother standing with the most cheerful expression on her face. You're confused by what could make her this happy until you look behind her to see Callisto and Solis behind her. Right, the only thing that could change your father’s mind is your mother.
“You have some visitors,” she happily explained.
She steps to the side as the other two shuffled a little towards you. Your heart speeds up as you try to hide your fear. Your mother shoos the two in and starts to close the door.
“Remember to be polite!” she calls out as she leaves the three of you alone.
You stare up at them as you try you best to remain calm. Your mind starts running through a million questions of why they are here. Do they know about your discovery or are they oblivious to it? You're broken out of thought when Callisto breaks the silence when he calls out your name.
“I know we don’t talk often, but we wanted to check in to see if you were ok. We both were fortunate to escape early on, though we heard you were stuck in the school the whole time. Your mother also told us that you spent the night in the hospital due to your injuries, so we were really worried for you.”
You don’t believe any of that. He held you captive in the restroom, hell even the blond standing next to him almost ripped off your arm! Your blood boils a bit by their audacity to lie to your face, but you keep it a bay.
“Yeah I ended up passing out due to how high my stress levels were along with a sprained knee. It’s not that bad though, I just need to rest and make sure that my stress levels are low,” you mumble while staring at the injured knee. When you look back up Solis moves to your side and starts pulling you over back to your bed.
“Let’s have you sit down while we talk then, so we don’t injure that knee any fur-”
He trips over his own foot and falls to the ground. Luckily Castillo grabs you so you don’t fall with him and sets you on your bed. You give him an awkward looking smile as Callisto kicks Solis signalling him to get up. He doesn’t though, just staring under your bed. You don’t notice at first as you start giving your thanks until he moves your feet and reaches under.
He pulls out a piece of clothing while positioning himself on his knees. Examining it he instantly recognized that it’s his missing sweater vest. You freeze in place, staring at him, as your brain struggles with finding a good excuse.
“So you're the little thief who took it. For the past few days I was convinced that I had lost it when we were running away and would never find it. Where did you even find this?” he chuckled as he looked up at you.
You breathe a small breath of relief as you try to conduct a believable story.
“Oh I found it in some bushes after falling in them while escaping. It didn’t have any blood on it so I thought you were alive so I took it to give it back to you when I had the chance.”
The words spew out fast with only a hint of panic in your voice. You stuff your hand in between your legs to hide the shaking as your eyes dart away from them. The bed sinks in on both sides of you as Solis gently grabs your chin to move your focus back on him.
“Well I appreciate the gesture.”
Your face starts to blush as heat rises to your chest. You can’t believe that they were the creatures that tried to kill you. They seem so genuinely nice that it’s impossible to imagine them as bloodthirsty creatures. You're broken out of it when Callisto takes your hands in his.
“Do you feel comfortable talking about what happened? We don’t have to if you’re not able to,” he calmly spoke while rubbing your knuckles.
Thinking for a moment you nod in agreement and start recalling the events you went through, not looking at them when you do. You give every detail about the horrors you experienced with the main focus being on the encounters with Sun and Moon. You didn’t notice the look the two of them would give each other when one of them was brought up. Not to mention the look of bewilderment on the blonde's face when you accused him of hunting you.
When you get to the gym interaction you start ranting about how they took your phone, forgetting for a moment that the very perpetrators are sitting next to you. A hint of blush flush across their cheek along with a nervous chuckle.
“T-That is strange. Maybe your phone was still open and it piqued their interest.”
Callisto tried to hold an innocent smile after that, but you see through it. You think back to see what was open, but nothing comes to mind. All you remember is typing out a goodbye text to your friend from earlier. Shaking your head you hear a quiet hum of displeasure from Solis, but pay no mind to it. They clearly are hinting at something they saw, though they won’t say what. Wanting to know what they saw you decide to poke the bear a little.
“I only remember that I was about to send my final message to my friend before it got knocked away.”
“What about previous messages before that? Did you talk about anyone?” Callisto asked, inching a little closer to you.
Solis tenses a little and shoots him daggers, telling him to stop and not press any further. You think back to when you first texted your friend that day when it hits you. You were asking if you should ask out the very two people sitting next to you, not only that but your friend also named dropped them when responding so they now know you were talking about them. Before you could start freaking out Solis starts lightly patting your head, seemingly trying to comfort you.
“Lets not dwell on this any longer. Like you said, stress levels need to be low,” he nervously chuckled.
You can’t help but to worry over this. If they saw that text then who knows what else they saw. Really wanting your phone back safely, you decide to attempt scarring them to get it back.
“Yeah, it’s fine. I have a tracker installed on it so my father started tracking it earlier today. What was interesting about its location was that it was pinged in a house.”
You try your best to play dumb while hiding all the nervous shaking. They both froze as they stared at each other. A few beats of silence goes by before Callisto rummages in his pocket and hands you your phone.
“W-Well you don’t need to wonder any longer. We found it the next day while looking for Solis’s sweater. Sorry for not giving it to you sooner, we wanted to wait till you were out of the hospital. See nothing to worry about!” he anxiously talked, slurring some of his words together.
They both hurriedly get up, wanting to escape while they think you're still oblivious to the obvious signs, and give a quick farewell and wish you a quick recovery. Rushing to the door they grip the handle and are about to leave when you decide to just go for it.
“You read the text, didn’t you?”
Stopping in their tracks Callisto swivels around and tries his best to give an innocent look.
“No! The phone was locked anyway, so we could even look if we wanted. Not that we wanted to!”
“Why didn’t you give it to me right away then, like anyone else would. You both also seemed to be fixated on what the conversation was between my friend and I, like you know what it was about. Wanting me to confess something specific that might relate to the both of you.”
Solis slowly turns around, not showing any emotion, and interrupts the other before he has a chance to mess up the situation more.
“Maybe we did, maybe we didn’t. Though I think we aren’t the only ones hiding some findings. So tell me why did you put my sweater vest under your bed like you were hiding it from your family? And don’t say that it was an accident because it was stuffed all the way in the back behind some other objects,” he questioned as he crept closer to tower over you.
You should be scared of them starting to catch on, but you know they can’t do anything with your father just down the hall. However you still want to hide your knowledge of them so you continue to play dumb for as long as you can.
“I did hide it. I didn’t want my parents knowing I brought back your clothing. My father would kill me and my mother… let's just say you would have been here a lot sooner,” you laughed.
“Right… Well you said you ran out of the building right when the rain stopped, correct?”
Callisto tells him to knock it off and try to pull him to the door. He doesn’t make it far though with Solis pushing him to the ground and getting face to face with you.
“You can quit playing the dumb act and start telling us the truth. You know exactly what we are, don't you?”
Growling the last part he attempts to push you against the bed, when his partner finally had enough and pulled him back. He gets in front of him to get him to the door while yelling at him.
“Would you stop! They don't know anything so we should just leave before you make things worse!”
“I never said what happened after my phone was stolen,” you retort.
Callisto stares at Sollis with a “see” look and turns around to apologize to you. Solis just scoffs and avoids your gaze on him. He thinks about just letting it go, but he can’t.
“Why haven’t you told anyone?” he asked, sliding his gaze to your eyes.
He doesn’t look as emotionless this time though, he almost has a pleading look in his eyes. You sit in silence for a minute thinking of what to say. Should you just give in now? He’s not going to let up until he is either dragged out or gets the truth.
“I think you know why,” you whispered as you decided the floor was more interesting to look at.
Thankfully your attention was off Solis when you said that so you wouldn’t notice how bright his blush was filling his face along with Callisto. He quickly brushes it off and brushes past his partner to move your face to look at him. Holding you in place he observes your reaction while lightly drawing circles into your cheek.
“I don’t believe I do, so why don’t you inform us of why,” teasing back at you with a smug look forming on his face. This might be the first time you have ever seen him wear a smile.
You try to look anywhere else but you are held firmly in place. Glancing over to the other he just stares at you with fear. Looking back Solis has inched closer and started tracing your bottom lip. You really dug yourself into a hole this time. They already know though so it shouldn’t be nerve wracking, yet your heart feels like it is rapidly beating out of your chest. You need to get this over with as soon as possible.
“I-I have um… feeling for the both of you.”
As the last word comes tumbling out he swiftly closes the distance between the two of you. Flinching at the sudden action, the heat boils over to where you start seeing stars. You blink them away as you lean into him. He was a lot more gentle than you had imagined. As if he read your thoughts he grabs your torso and pushes your back onto the bed. He stays straddled on top of you as he continues the both of you stay locked onto each other.
His counterpart continues to stare at them during all of this. His mind becomes a jumbled mess with everything happening so fast. He wants to go join the both of you, but also wants to question you about your opinion of them. He has tried so hard to keep his and Solis’s identities a secret, so he wants to make sure his lover isn’t making a mistake by trusting you.
He snaps out of it when Solis pulls away for you to catch your breath. Deciding that it’s more important to make sure you won’t snitch on them, he walks over and sits next to the both of you.
Your mind is hazy from the lack of air in your lungs, but you're still able to feel a dip form next to you. Solis gets off of you and sits you back up into his lap. He uses his sleeve to wipe off a little bit of drool he left on your face.
Castillo clears his throat and quietly asks, “Are you going to tell anyone about us?”
“W-what!” you sputter as you stare at him, cheeks glowing more red.
Solis giggles at your response and teases his lunar partner, “Well I hope so. You know how miserable it was to be dating you without your parents knowing.”
“You know that’s not what I meant!”
Solis continues to laugh at his partner’s mistake as you switch your gaze from one of them then to the other. Panic sets in your chest with reality setting in. You just made out with a creature that tried to kill you just days earlier in front of his partner who also tried to kill you. You might have really screwed yourself here.
“Ahem, what I meant was are you going to tell anyone that we are creatures?” he asked again.
You think about it for a second before retorting, “Are you going to kill me on the next Feeding Day if I don’t?”
They both stare at you, then to each other, then back. Solis breaks out laughing like a maniac as Castillo moves closer and holds your hands.
“Oh course not. If you keep our secret then we will happily keep you around,” he comforts you while nudging Solis to get him to stop laughing.
He eventually takes a breath, but still giggles, “I just made out with you, so do you really think I’ll give up any more lovely interactions with you.”
“You kissed them, not made out. I thought you would know the difference since you were the so-called “expert” at romance.”
The blond scowls at him, but drops it for now and will deal with him later. Focusing back on the situation he tries his best to convince you to stay quiet.
“Look, we like you and you like us so let's make a deal. You don’t tell a soul about us and we will let you be our third, if you’re comfortable with that,” moving his hand back to your face and caressing it lightly.
Your mouth opens, ready to immediately agree, but you close it and look away. The deal sounds like a dream come true at first, yet when you think about what they have done, is it really worth it. After everyone they have killed, whom to say you aren’t next. Creatures are known to be untrustworthy and bloodthirsty, so maybe they are lying to you.
They both observe you, watching every little facial expression you make, until they see that they’re losing you. They understand why you wouldn’t want to with what you saw them do, but you can’t blame them. They didn’t think you would be there since you always stayed home on Feed Day. Castillo might have been right with hunting outside of school that day when he saw you in the halls. Whatever, they need to focus on convincing you into the relationship. Or at least not to tell your father about them being creatures.
“Do you no longer love us?” Castillo asked as he inched closer to be right against you.
“NO! That’s not it at all. It’s just… how can I trust you when you tried to eat me a few days ago.”
“We didn’t try to kill you!” Soils exclaimed with his grip getting tighter.
“You tried to eat my arm!”
Solis looks at you offended before arguing back, “Eat your arm! I was trying to protect you. You were waving a very sharp pencil around and I wanted to make sure you wouldn’t hurt yourself with it.”
“No, you even growled when you took a hold of it!”
“I was purring!”
His face turned flushed with the confession, which signals Castillo to defend himself before his partner embarrasses himself any further.
“See, all of it is a big misunderstanding. We never were going to kill you, we were just trying to protect you when you were in a bad situation.”
“You attacked me in the restroom and almost squished me in the gym!”
“In my defense I didn’t know you were in the restroom and I was securing you while we decided our next move.”
He takes a breath of exhaustion to clear his thoughts. They are not getting anywhere by trying to defend themselves, so Solis decides to try a new method. The method is just aggressively kissing you until the message comes through. You sit frozen when he does, not quite sure how to react to this. Not that you had time with Castillo pulling you out of it and into his lap.
“Would you stop that! They’re not me so it’s not going to work,” he pointed at Solis as he clutched you to his chest. Loosening his hold he lifts you face up towards him.
“How about this, we answer any questions you have to ease your doubt. Would you like that instead?”
That does sound like a better idea than what they were previously doing, though you didn’t hate the kissing. You nod in agreement as you think of what to ask. With the time ticking away you would have to be careful with what you ask.
“Do you really have to eat humans to not starve yourself?”
He holds your face in both hands, lightly rubbing your cheeks as he explains, “It’s not that we starve if we don’t hunt humans, it’s that we feel like we are. We need to or else we are in an excruciating amount of pain.”
“Don’t you feel bad for them though?”
Pondering for a moment, he comes up with a good enough answer to hopefully satisfy you.
“At first yes, but you eventually become desensitized to it. It does sound bad, but really it’s just the food web. Animals eat other animals all the time, so this isn’t really any different. Us eating humans is just like humans eating cows or pigs. At the end of the day we are trying to survive just like anyone else.”
Their reasoning isn’t as flawed as you thought it would be. The more you think about it, the more it starts to make sense. Maybe they are not monsters like everyone else makes them seem.
You take a breath before asking, “Why were you protecting me then?”
A soft smile falls upon his face as he pulls you closer to be an inch away from his lips. He gives a small chuckle as he decides to tease you more.
“Did Solis not make the message clear. Shame, looks like I have to now~”
Before you have time to react he pulls you in for a kiss. He holds you steady as he pushes you onto your back again, not breaking contact once. Wrapping your legs around his hips you pull him closer. The air surrounding you heats up, but his hands are cold against your skin keeping you from overheating. The weight of him causes you to lose your breath quicker than you like, to the point of almost passing out from the lack of air if not for him pulling away at the last minute.
“Hopefully that answers your question.”
You lay under him, trying to catch your breath, when Solis moves over to lift you head on his thighs and start messing with your hair. Everything is quiet as your thoughts try to get themselves straight. You're broken out of it when Solis speaks up.
“So does this mean you accept our deal?”
Thinking over everything again, you come to a conclusion of accepting it. And if anything happens at least you are prepared for it. You tell them yes and they both perk up with the news. They sit you back up and snuggle into you.
“So since you are now our mate then we have a few things to discuss. First being that in private we call each other by our creature names. So you can call me Sun and call him Moon, or any nicknames related to them are great,” Solis chips up, snuggling his face into the crook of your neck.
Moon squishes himself further into you as he speaks, “Of course we can give you one if you want. Like maybe mouse would be cute fo- NO!”
He pops up and grabs Suns head as you look over to see him about to bite you. You push away from them and grab a pillow for defense. Moon lets go of Sun and moves in front of you.
“What are you doing! You promise that they would choose who marked them!”
“You know it’s best to mark them right away for their safety. You never known when the next Feeding Day is, so we need to do it tonight,” Sun replied.
They both turn their attention back onto you and slowly crept a little closer. Moon lightly pushed the pillow down and went back to snuggling you. Sun moved close to you, but kept a little distance from you. He reaches out to hold your hand as he apologies.
“My apologies for scaring you. I wasn’t going to hurt you, just trying to protect you.”
You want to pull your hand away in defense, but your lunar partner defends him.
“He was trying to mark you, which is a human mate thing. To make sure the human mates don’t get hunted we mark them. When marked all creatures can sort of smell something from them that tells them that they were chosen. All creatures respect human mates since most humans aren’t to be trusted. Sun was just overly concern about you safety.”
“So only one of you can though?” you asked, letting Sun come snuggle next to you again.
“Well I don’t really know. I have never heard of a human mate having two markings, so maybe or maybe not. That’s why we agreed on letting you choose who gets to go first. Though it would be wise to get this done tonight”
Contemplating over the two choices you can’t seem to choose. This is the who you ask out situation all over again. That's when a genius idea pops up.
“Why don’t you both do it at the same time, leave the choice to fate?”
They both jump at the idea, moving to get a good angle of your neck when you stop them.
“Wait! You said it a marking, so anyone can see it right”
They nod their head in agreement so you continue, “Well then let’s not do it on the neck since my father would be able to see it. You should do it in a more hidden place.”
“You’re right. Your father does know a lot about creatures so if he saw it he would most likely immediately know something is up. Do you have a place in mind then since it is your body,” Solis agreed, looking over you to find a perfect spot.
“Wait how do you about my fathers work?”
“We did our research when we notice that you constantly skipped Feeding Da–”
“He stalked you after your first week,” Moon claimed, cutting Sun off in the process.
“Stalked is such a strong word! I was just simply observing them without their knowledge. Anyways, we should hurry and mark you before we have to leave.”
Letting it go for now, you think about a place that no one would be able to see when a thought hits you. You think it over, making sure that it’s the perfect spot for this. You conclude that it would be a perfect spot.
“What if we do my inner thighs. Those are never exposed to anyone, so it should be safe.”
“That’s a wonderful idea little mouse!” Moon praised and he starts to get into position.
Sun follow suit as they move to kneel on the ground as you move to the edge of the bed. You’re about to start rolling up your pants when Sun stops you. He looks at the door for a few moments before getting off the floor while pulling Moon with him. They rush over to the end of the bed and switching there demeanor to be more calm and reserved. You’re spooked when someone knocks on the door. Your mother walks in, carrying a glass of water and medications.
“I’m sorry to barge in, but I need you to takes these before you go to bed. You two on the other hand have to leave. They need a lot of sleep to recover and will be very busy tomorrow. You two can visit again in a few days if you like, I’m sure they would appreciate the company,” she looked over and winked at you.
They both look over at you, expecting you to make an excuse to buy them a little more time, but you know nothing you say will work. You get up to walk over to them and give them both a hug goodbye. Moon bends down and squeezes you close to him, humming a little happy tune as he does. Sun pats your back awkwardly, avoiding any eye contact with anyone. Your mothe leads them out of your room when Sun falls behind and gives you a sigh that says “call him”. Once they fully leave you flop on your bed and fall asleep, happily dreaming of the near future with those two.
