Chapter Text

Inspired by Graceland…

It had been an extra-worked few weeks for the major crimes division. They had just closed their 5th case, most of them having been up more than 24 hours several times. Morgan’s brain had been put to the max, and at this point, she was sure she’d need to sleep for a few days straight. There was no way that she could make it through another case. Everybody was tired and needed a break, thankful for the weekend, when their team wouldn’t have to work. They gladly handed the reins over to the next crew and made their way out of the station.
“What are your plans?” Daphne asked Morgan as she continued packing up her things.
Morgan groaned and dropped her head back, “Gosh, sleeping. The whole weekend, if I can stay in bed the whole time, I will call it a success. Ludo has the kids, and I have free time.”
Daphne smiled and laughed, “C’mon, no plans? You just said you’re kid-free and the only thing you can think of is sleeping? No bar you wanna hit, movies, beach?”
“I haven’t been to the beach in a while. It’s been a hot minute since I surfed last, too.” She said, grabbing her jacket.
Oz looked up from his computer and leaned back in his chair, “You surf?”
Morgan nods, “Yeah. I get to shut my brain off for a few hours and be on the water.”
Soto leaned against the doorway of her office and looked at Daph and Oz, who were now smiling towards a specific co-worker. Soto nodded towards Karadec, who was sitting at his desk, still working on some case files. “You know, Karadec-”
His shaking head cuts her off. Karadec nothing. It’s finally the weekend, we can all go home and focus on nothing until Monday.”
Morgan rolled her eyes, “You’re most likely going to work all weekend. Let’s be real here.”
Karadec looked at her, then huffed and stood, grabbing his things.
“We going or what?”

The two had been officially together for two months, and things were going smoothly. More than smooth, things seemed just to be right. To fit together like they were supposed to. He surprised Morgan the most with his behavior with her kids. She had thought that would be the struggle in their relationship, but was quickly taken aback by how he handled Eliot’s many questions and the bond he shared with Ava. Even Chloe seemed to be attached to him. Their casework had only improved since they became a couple, so Captain Douchb–Wagner couldn’t say anything.
Sure, they still had minor disagreements, but they handled them as they always did: in silence, until one of them cracked and admitted that there were some things they had done wrong.

Getting into Karadec’s car, Morgan looked at him in silence as he avoided her stare. After 20 minutes, she still hadn’t looked away, and he sighed, “Drop it, Morg.”
She rolled her eyes and leaned back in the seat, “Drop what? I don’t need to drop anything? Is there something I should? Like I don’t know-what Soto was about to say.” She rambled.
“There’s nothing to say. Okay? Finally get a break after this week, so we can stay in bed and sleep for 24 hours.” He said and ended it with a look that always won her over.
Morgan huffed and left it at that, “Sure thing. I’ll drop it.”

She did not drop it.
That night, while they were sitting on her couch watching random things on TV, she stared at the wall, silent.
“Morgan. You’re in your ‘I want to say something’ silences.” He pointed out, not taking his eyes away from the screen.
Morgan turned in his arms and propped herself up, looking him in the eyes. Karadec turned his face to hers and brushed her bangs back.
“What was Soto talking about?” She asked.
Adam dropped his head back and thought deeply, “You’re not gonna let this go, are you?” He asked, turning his attention back to her.
“Definitely not. Cmon what is it? It only happened after Daph mentioned the beach. Is that what this is about? You afraid of the beach or something? Sharks, sand, it’s the sand, isn’t it?” Karadec laughed, and she stopped, smiling. “Look, if you don’t want to talk about it, I can try to forget the whole thing ever happened.”
Adam looked at her and then placed a kiss on her lips, which she returned happily. “I used to surf.” He mumbled, pulling away barely.
Morgan shot up, and her jaw dropped. “You what?” She asked, excitedly and now full of energy.
He laughed and dragged his hands over his face. “When I first came to California for the academy, I would spend my free time surfing. I accidentally let it slip one night at the bar after work.”
Morgan was now standing, smiling widely. “We’re going.”
Karadec stood up with her and shook his head, “No, no Morgan-” He tried, even though he knew it was too late.
“Yes, c’mon. I know, and now it is all I will think about until it happens. I miss the beach, and now I know that you can surf. That your hobbies don’t include cleaning and work.” He rolled his eyes at that, and she held the sides of his face.
“Please,” she said, drawing out the ending.
He sighed, “Fine. Only because I know you won’t let this go.”
