“And also sent 13 people to the hospital with varying hand injuries and a slew of missing fingers.”
Morgan grimaced and then gave a small shrug. “Well, ya know. They weren't trained law enforcement officers.”
“That makes no sense,” Karadec groaned, eyebrows scrunched and mouth twisted into a frown.

She's got her back pressed against worn sticky plastic in a swan boat of dubious structural integrity. The swan in front of them is cracked nearly in half, one sad wing drooping awkwardly to the left. It must be out of order. The tunnel is humid and dark, and she can smell the subtle spice of Karadec's cologne over the reek of dielectric grease, warm and piquant, and it's driving her nuts. Bruce Springsteen is still singing in the background, piped through the shitty speakers, on and on in that slightly flat tone he affected on the whole Tunnel of Love album, always a little off from where she expects the notes to fall. It oughta be easy, oughta be simple enough, he croons. Man meets woman and they fall in love.

When a person gets angry their body shifts into gear quickly. Adrenaline and cortisol are released, the body redirects blood from places like the gut to the muscles, heart rate increases, the mind becomes clear and sharp. The body becomes ready to fight. If you can’t fight because you have already yelled at your boss once today; you storm out and hook up with the art theft consultant on your case. This ends up working out because as you are hooking up with said art theft consultant, you notice a characteristic scar on his left shoulder reflected in the very ornate mirror in his apartment. You connect the dots and crack the case wide open - art theft consultant guy is probably just art thief guy. So really, if you think about it, Morgen Gillroy did everything right. Which is why she feels so…guilty…and anxious??
