There’s Nothing.

Summary:

There’s nothing this time. Sorry.

Work Text:

Mordecai is standing in a large white void.

”You heard it right. There’s nothing.”

“So you can go now.”

”Or not? But there isn’t really a use to staying.”

”I have to. At least until something… exists. Like an exit.”

”Not that I’m stuck. I’m only temporarily trapped within these boundaries.”

“But for now, there is nothing.”

”Rather boring? Isn’t it?”

”That was a trick question. It isn’t.”

”And besides, there isn’t nothing in the sense of the word.”

”There’s the air, the particles inside, some viral, some not, me, and you.”

”But I find silence rather peaceful than of ennui.”

”What? Am I being too advanced for you to understand? Am I being too unreadable?”

”Not that it matters, however. In all my endeavors I have never truly seen something quite like this.”

”Could this be some oddly crafted torture chamber, the lack of objects to drive someone crazy?”

“Well not me. You, on the other end, may find it rather hard. But it isn’t.”

”I cannot see you, or hear you, but I feel your presence, that you know what I’m going through.”

”And besides, if you can see me, I’m not revealing in any form. Luckily my clothes are intact.”

”Although, if there truly is, I ask you of one thing. How did I end up here?”

”I woke up in this strange, enlarged room. It seems to be edgeless, lacking any walls, or lighting, but bright white is along each lit wall.”

“I cannot hear anything. There is only a floor, and putting my ear up to it renders useless.”

”If I was put here, to die, or starve, you simply cannot understand my ways, the things I’ve learnt over the last 6 years of my life, of my career, of my work.”

“But there is no memory before. Not near enough to now to give me even a clue. With this silence, I should be able to focus. But yet despite it all, I have found nothing. No idea of where I came from, what caused this, what is this.”

“But there is nothing I have to worry about in this room, besides the apparent lack of resources. But I have endeavored in such before. I will last. Other than that, no asymmetry, no insects, not even an aviary insect, within the confines of this room, of which I’m surprised. How advanced the technology required to make something as this could be groundbreaking.”

”So I am at peace here. There is nothing to hurt me, other than time itself, nothing to annoy me, and… nothing.”

“So at least you are enjoying me, aren’t you.”

”Well don’t. It’s not funny. It’s not anything. It’s nothing, as I’ve previously stated.”

”And to laugh at nothing is truly useless. Truly maniacal.”

”But what else can I say? There isn’t much to say about this nothing.”

”Is just is, as it always is, always around, but filled in. Except this time. I expect to hopefully enter this again, although if it is to hurt me then my opinion will change.”

“Luckily time hasn’t been a problem. I haven’t gotten any… ‘nature calls’ yet. But it slips rather easily.”

“But that is the nature of time. To fight against entropy, until you start to fail, and eventually, you fail against entropy as well.”

”Or, you know, you can’t fight against entropy all of a sudden. Like most of my victims.”

”But keep this in mind. There is nothing in you and me, and nothing around me. So am I surrounded by me, you, or am I and you nothing?”

”Think about that sometimes.”

Serafine busts through the floor, causing a cloud of dust to enter the room.

”Hi.”

Serafine went back down giggling like a girl.

”And this is why I was enjoying it.”
