Lucy felt her heart catch in her throat.
This was it. Lucy gulped. Air once more felt scarce. What would she do? Could she, could she lie her way out of it? She bit her lip painfully to stop herself from crying. But then it hit her. He didn't know just yet. Atleast she didn't think he did. Otherwise he would have disposed of her already. He knew something was up just not what. She had the ability to diffuse the situation. She couldn't say "nothing" as that would be a blatant lie. So instead she reached for the first thing that came to mind:
"I have a crush on you."
What if season 1 ended with Lucy securing cold fusion? How would this build tension and lead to a subsequent sense of betrayal with the ghoul? That is what this fic aims to explore.
