Cody still can't believe what happened to him. One moment he's champion, the next he's bloodied on the mat while John Cena is holding his belt in the air. He felt like his whole world had just fallen apart and he couldn't do anything to stop it. Now, Cody feels numb as he quietly walks down the hallway to his hotel room. He finally makes it to the door and with a sigh he grabs his key card, opens the door and goes inside. After he shuts the door, he turns around and sees his husband folding his gear and putting it into his suitcase.
Drew must've heard the door shut cause Cody saw a smile form on his husband's face. “Welcome back, love! How was your match?” The Scotsman asks him curiously. When he doesn't get a response, he looks over and his smile is wiped away upon seeing Cody. “Oh no, what happened?” Drew asks his husband. He doesn't get a response as the blonde walks past him and lays face down onto the bed. “Cody?” The Scotsman asks as he joins him on the bed. He can hear muffled noises coming from his husband.
“I'm gonna turn you over, ok?” Drew offers, still not getting a response. He gently rolls his husband over and his heart breaks from what he sees. Cody's face is completely red with fat tears running down his cheeks. “Oh, love” Drew says as he automatically brings Cody into his arms. “I lost, Drew…” the blonde says as he continues to cry. “I know… I know” his husband says as he rubs Cody's back. “I don't know who I am without it” the blonde says sadly. “A championship doesn't define who you are, Cody” Drew says, causing his husband to look up at him.
“Oh really? Then what am I?” Cody asks him curiously. “Look at your hand, love” Drew says to him. The blonde was confused by that but did what his husband told him to do. He looks at his hand and sees his gold wedding band. “It's my wedding ring” Cody says as he looks back at Drew. “It is, are you understanding what I'm trying to say?” His husband asks him curiously. “Not really, I think crying fried my brain” the blonde answers, causing the Scotsman to laugh a bit. “Before you became a renowned champion, you became my husband. We got married back when we were nobodies just starting out.
Championships don't make you who are, only the people that truly love you do” Drew explains with a soft smile. Cody lets his words run through his mind before letting out a chuckle. “How come you're a complete jackass to me at work yet you're the sweetest man alive outside of it?” Cody asks him a bit teasingly. “Cause you're the only man that's allowed to see me like this” Drew answers truthfully. “I love you” the blonde tells him sweetly. “Love you too, now go take a shower and I'll order something” Drew says as he gently nudges his husband off the bed.
“Do I stink that bad?” Cody asks him curiously. “No but you still got blood in your hair, love” Drew points out to him. “Oh yeah right… I'll go do that now” the blonde says a bit embarrassingly as he gives his husband a quick kiss and runs into the shower. While he's doing that, Drew grabs the hotel phone and quickly orders something for him and his husband to share. Twenty minutes later, Cody comes out with a fresh pair of pajamas on. “Don't you look cute in your matching pjs” Drew says a bit teasingly.
“Way to kick a man down when he's nearly dead, babe” Cody says as he joins Drew on the bed again. “So dramatic, anyways I ordered something for us to snack on” his husband says as he pulls something out of the mini fridge. Cody's eyes lit up upon seeing the carton of ice cream. “You ordered ice cream?” He asks his husband, clearly surprised. “Yeah, it's your comfort snack so ye can't deny that you have a sweet tooth” Drew says as grabs a spoon and takes a scoop from the carton.
Cody puts the offered spoon in his mouth without hesitation and swallows. “More, please” he says, causing Drew to laugh. “Guess someone's feeling better” he says as he continues to feed his husband. Cody just hums as he leans on Drew's shoulder. “Hey Drew?” He asks his husband curiously. “Yes, love?” The Scotsman asks as he looks at the blonde. “Do you wanna know what my favorite part of my story is?” Cody asks him with a smile. “Yeah, I do actually cause you never really told me” Drew says, clearly interested.
“My favorite part is you because you've been by my side and supporting me through it all” Cody explains, causing his husband to blush. Drew stays silent as he sets the empty carton to the side and kisses his husband deeply. Cody was a bit surprised by this but leaned into it quickly. Once they break apart, Drew presses his head against his husband's. “Thank you for letting me be a part of it” he tells him truthfully. “I love you so much, Drew” Cody tells him affectionately.
“I love you too, Cody, you wanna watch a movie?” Drew asks him curiously. “Do I get to pick?” The blonde asks, causing the Scotsman to playfully roll his eyes. “Yes you can pick” he says as he hands his husband the remote. Cody decided on some old action movie as he and Drew cuddled together. This might be one of Cody's favorite parts of his story yet.
