He had succeeded in scaring the alcalde, first with their little encounter on the road and then his visit to his office, but Zorro could see that it would not be sufficient to get the man to leave Los Angeles once and for all. It hadn’t taken Diego long to see who was really in charge in the pueblo, and it wasn’t the man at the head of it. It was evident that while Capitán Esteban Pasquale remained by his side, pulling the strings, there would be no real change to the status quo—at least not for the better.
It stood to reason, then, that a little visit to the capitán was in order.
