the taeyang effect

Summary:

No wonder Taeyang had noticed his staring; he couldn’t help it. He couldn't stop thinking about Taeyang either, even when he was right in front of him.

Or: Intak just wants to kiss Taeyang.

Notes:

I simply thought that Theo deserves to be kissed after making everyone lose their mind laughing in the newest episode of ‘Welcome, First Time in Korea?’ And by kissed, I mean especially by Intak, who “gazes fondly” at him.

So this takes place after they finish the board game in episode 3.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

The cameras stopped rolling and the staff came in to take off their mics to start packing up the equipment. The remnants of the game they played were left spread across the table.

“That was fun,” Jiung grinned.

Everyone seemed to agree. It was definitely one of those schedules that felt more like hanging out with friends rather than being hyper-focused on recording new content. All the confirmation needed was in Intak’s smile, which hadn’t left his face for hours, accompanied by a fading ache in his cheeks. He anticipated it would be as entertaining to watch as it was to participate in. However, the day was far from over, and they had more recordings planned in the evening. Intak hoped it wouldn't be too taxing either.

He glanced at Taeyang, who started tidying up the table. Intak really needed to stop doing that, but today was one of the worst days. Taeyang looked too good and was too funny, too much of everything—really. It was undeniable that he was the driving force behind today's positive mood. Taeyang, with his mouth full of jokes and witty remarks, hands flying around in silly gestures.

It wasn't anything out of the ordinary, so maybe Intak was just extra sensitive today. He felt something within him respond to every one of Taeyang's words, to all of his playful actions. No wonder Taeyang had noticed his staring; he couldn’t help it. He couldn't stop thinking about Taeyang either, even when he was right in front of him. The desire to kiss him had been building up inside Intak ever since their schedule started.

“I'll let the manager know,” Keeho interrupted his thoughts and left the table. Intak blinked, coming back to the present, having no idea what Keeho was referring to. He looked around and noticed that only Taeyang, Jongseob and he were still seated.

He leaned towards Jongseob, who was also getting up, and whispered, “What's up?”

Jongseob looked over, raising his eyebrow. “Amazing, it's like your brain takes a vacation as soon as the recording stops.”

“What brain?” remarked Taeyang, grabbing the neatly packed game to put back on the shelf. When did that happen? Jongseob let out a snort.

“Hey, come on!” Intak whined.

“I’m not the one asking you to repeat the past 5 minutes of conversation, because I was busy daydreaming about my boyfriend,” Jongseob said. Well, Intak couldn't argue with that.

“I'm not asking for a full rundown,” Intak rolled his eyes, “Just tell me when we are leaving. Keeho said he's going to call the manager, but weren't we supposed to stop by the dorms before going to the shoot?” he furrowed his brow.

Jongseob sighed, tilting his head up, giving the impression that Intak was asking something demanding, like rap in an ancient language—or worse—play a sport. “Since the schedule ran over quite a bit, we agreed to just stay here and go straight to the next shoot,” he paused, “Actually, we should get takeout on the way too, so we only have like 15 minutes to spare anyway,” he shrugged.

“Ah, okay, okay,” Intak nodded and grinned. “See? That wasn't so difficult.”

“You try being your personal parrot for this long,” Jongseob replied.

“Someone's touchy after the crushing defeat,” Intak continued unfazed.

“That's not true! The odds were stacked against me,” Jongseob nodded to himself, as if he made a bulletproof statement.

“Aw, Jongseobie! Don't worry, next time we play anything that requires teams, we will just pair you up with Intak-ah, so you can both lose,” Taeyang swooped back in, in a typical Taeyang fashion. He patted Jongseob's head sarcastically and sat back down.

Jongseob waved his hand around, acting annoyed. With a murmured comment, which Intak didn't hear, he made his way towards Jiung and Shota, who were on the side talking to the staff members.

Intak's eyes naturally landed on Taeyang again, the only one still left at the table with him. Taeyang brought out his phone, probably planning to spend the rest of the time mindlessly scrolling or jumping on Fromm. Intak remained restless, with an impulse to do something about his looping thoughts. He sighed inwardly, gearing up for the upcoming mortification.

“Is there a restroom in this place?” Intak asked, putting on a nonchalant front. This is a stupid idea.

“Yeah,” replied Taeyang, absentmindedly pointing somewhere behind Intak, not even looking up from his phone.

“Do you wanna go?” Intak cringed at the awkward phrasing, shifting in his seat. What am I doing?

Taeyang lifted his gaze. “Do you need me to hold your hand?”

Intak was going to die of embarrassment, but it would be worth it. Probably. “If you are offering, yeah, but that’s not what I meant,” he shook his head slightly.

Taeyang put his phone on the table and crossed his arms. He leaned back in the chair, raising his eyebrows with a barely noticeable smile on his face. “Really?” he hummed. “What did you mean then, Intak-ah?”

Intak knew Taeyang understood what he was implying, but still wanted him to say it. He considered how best to voice his thoughts. How does one say, ‘I’ve been thinking about kissing you the whole day, and if there weren’t people around, I’d climb over this stupid table and attach myself to you for eternity,’ without sounding dramatic or desperate?

Any other time, Intak might've played around a bit, not too direct, but they were leaving soon, and he was not far from simply trying to drag Taeyang there by himself. That definitely wouldn’t be suspicious. Okay, maybe he was a touch desperate. Intak momentarily marvelled at his ability to restrain himself from acting like this daily.

He leaned towards Taeyang as much as the table allowed and glanced at his lips, whispering, “Taeyang-hyung, I really want to kiss you right now.” I wanted to kiss you the whole day, was left unsaid.

Taeyang tilted his head a bit, making a show of contemplating Intak’s offer. “All of a sudden?” he asked teasingly, as if hearing Intak’s unspoken confession.

Intak noticed him briefly glancing at his lips and did his best not to smirk outright, knowing he’d already won. “We have some time to kill,” he shrugged, purposefully ignoring the question.

Taeyang puckered his lips, leaning in conspiratorially. “Can’t help but notice you dodged the question.” A smile overtook his expression. Intak, powerless, smiled back. Taeyang’s playful mood really was at an all-time high today. Cute.

Intak stood up without replying. He nodded towards the direction Taeyang previously pointed at, his hand twitching with the urge to reach out and take Taeyang’s hand into his. He waited with bated breath. Taeyang got up and glided past him with a spring in his step, making Intak chuckle. What is in the air today?

Intak followed behind him, noticing Keeho was back conversing with the others. Taeyang wordlessly moved past the other members, making his way towards the restroom. Intak murmured, “Be right back,” because he felt like he should address the situation somehow. He did his best to ignore the “What?” “Are you serious?” and  “Oh my god,” he got in response, but his flushed face told a different story.

Taeyang should come with a warning label. Something like: ‘Caution: Will invade your thoughts and make you act like a lovesick fool’. Maybe it was an Intak-specific case, but he was doubtful that anyone could resist Taeyang. How?

They reached the restroom without anyone intercepting them, too busy packing up and leaving. He clicked the light on, revealing an uncomfortably small room, cramped with a toilet stall on the right and a lone sink on the left. Thankfully, it was empty—and lockable.

Intak wasted no time making use of that lock and crowding Taeyang against the door. His hands finally connected with Taeyang's skin, one on his neck, the other grabbing his waist. The desire was eating him alive.

Taeyang opened his mouth, but Intak gave him no chance to speak as he connected their lips. Taeyang didn’t hesitate in reciprocating, wrapping his arms around his shoulders, pulling him in. Intak didn’t let him take complete control this time, licking into his mouth. He pressed against him, taking a handful of his hair and bringing him even closer. His other hand slipped under Taeyang’s shirt, teasing the bare skin. Despite having his mouth occupied, nose smushed against Taeyang’s face, Intak felt like he could finally breathe freely. The ache to touch, to kiss, was momentarily sated.

He was getting too worked up. He had to keep reminding himself that they were in a random bathroom with limited time, and if he got hard, Taeyang would never let him live it down. He eased up, turning the kisses softer. He kept pulling away enough only to take small breaths, not wanting to separate just yet.

His hand moved from Taeyang’s neck to his cheek, gently tilting his head as he wished. Taeyang’s hands were leisurely placed on his shoulders, letting him set the pace. When he couldn't ignore the ticking clock in his head anymore, he pulled away, letting his forehead rest against Taeyang's.

Taeyang took a couple of deep breaths and murmured, almost shyly, “What was that for?” Intak was hit with nostalgia for their debut days, bringing back memories of how shy Taeyang used to be.

He loved him so much it was unbearable. Intak never really gave much thought to what kind of partner he would be in a relationship, considering his idol career. Sweet, kind, caring—the basic stuff—was obvious. He wasn't sure he could have predicted how borderline addicted and obsessed he would become. He doubted it would be the case with anyone else but Taeyang. The Taeyang effect, he chuckled inwardly.

“Hey, are you okay?” Taeyang asked softly, tenderly caressing his cheek. Intak barely registered what Taeyang was asking, lost in his musings.

Is he okay? “More than okay,” he nodded repeatedly, the motions subtle against Taeyang's forehead. After a brief pause, he added, “I love you.”

I really abused the cursive in this one, oops. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this short little thing! I also suffer from the Taeyang effect, and the Thetak brainworms are insatiable.
