Work Text:
Shane and Ilya were spending Thanksgiving with Yuna and David.
It had been 5 months since they had declared their love for each other.
“Oh Yuna”, Ilya spoke up, “Did you get tickets to that musical you were talking about?”
Shane looked at Ilya, confused. What musical?
“Yes, I did, for the end of January”.
The four of them were in a group chat together but there was never any mention of a musical.
“What musical?”, Shane asked.
“Blood Brothers is coming to Ottawa”, she explained to Shane.
“And David, did you fix your lawnmower?”, Ilya asked.
“Yeah, I asked Bob to look at it and he replaced the part”.
Shane didn’t know his dad’s lawnmower was broken in the first place.
“How did you know about the lawnmower? And the musical?”, Shane couldn’t help himself.
“Your parents told me. During our latest phone call last week”, Ilya said simply.
“Phonecall?!”
“Yes, Yuna phones me once a week. And I also speak to David”.
“Just to check in”, Yuna said.
Shane’s heart clenched.
To check in. Yuna uses those words when she rings Shane. She's doing the same with Ilya. She loves him.
He rubbed his mother’s shoulder. She smiled in understanding.
Later, Shane and Ilya were in the kitchen, cleaning up.
“I can get Mom to cool it on the phone calls if you don’t like them. I know she can be a bit intense”.
Ilya smiled at him.
“Aside from my phone calls with you, those phone calls are the highlight of my week Shane. I have a family again, thanks to you. It feels good. To be cared for”.
Shane pulled his man into a tight hug.
