Zoey was scrolling lazily on her phone when she saw it. It was a video of someone in an extremely well detailed cosplay of Rumi, and she had to stare for a few seconds to make sure that it wasn’t actually Rumi, it was that well done. She saw the millions of views, and the millions of likes.
The cosplayer looked exactly like Rumi, even the patterns were there, shiny marks that seemed to actually glow. The video title was in Japanese, and so was the channel name, “着せ替え人形”. After liking it, she checked the comments. It was filled with HUNTR/X fans, and fans of the cosplayer. Pinned at the top was a comment from a different account, simply commenting a ❤️ emoji, and another comment in English and Japanese, which read “GUYS MY PHONE IS BLOWING UP”, from the cosplayer herself.
Zoey assumed that the other pinned comment was from someone the cosplayer knew. “Rumi, look at this! It looks like you!” Rumi went over, saw Zoey’s phone, and paused. She looked at the cosplayer. She was impressed. “I thought that was me for a second.” Rumi’s tone held respect.
One comment that stood out was “Guys remember that the guy who makes these cosplays for her is a fucking teenager. We’re all getting beaten by a Japanese teen”. 着せ替え人形 had responded to this with a laughing emoji.
“WHAT!” Zoey was shocked. A teenager!? The cosplayer looked better than the stage costumes! “How the hell is a teenager better then our own workers!”
Mira had leaned over, a slight smile on her face. “Well, we could try and ask him how he’s so good? Maybe it took him, like, six months.”
Further comments were seen. “Marin, how much money do you need to sing golden your voice is so beautiful”.
Marin was presumably 着せ替え人形’s name. Marin didn’t respond, but she had liked the comment. The HUNTR/X official account had commented, giving a thumbs up. The fact that Marin didn’t pin it or like it made Zoey giggle. All the replies to that comment were making fun of the official account.
“Ok, this is gold. Comment something, Zoey.” Rumi had nuzzled into Zoey by now, interested heavily in the video.
“Ok, ok, damn! I gotta think of something.” After a brief pause, Zoey commented. “You interested in a job?”
