Chapter Text
In the Owl House living room, Luz is standing barefoot on the couch reading from The Good Witch Azura 5 to King. (Luz: “Ah, reading my favorite series to a friend while barefoot on a comfy, tactile surface. What can be better?”)

""Azura," Hecate began. "Our paths have crossed only in battle. But today I stand before you seeking an ally,"" Luz sighed dreamily, loving this ultimate couple from enemies to allies to eventually lovers dynamic.
“Luz, you're getting all swoon-y again,” King reminded (King: “Luz really loves shipping those two together, doesn’t she? She could love anybody that way regardless of gender. Well, that’s her deal. I don’t care either way, honestly. At least she is happy and not obsessing over whether her feet are bare or not. Seriously, why did she care for those foot prisons if she doesn’t like them?”)
“I can't help it. Azura is able to befriend everyone. Even her biggest rival. I wish I had that kind of power,” Luz admitted. (Luz: “I’m just screw-up Luz that can’t make a single friend without messing it up. I’m lucky to still have friends on the Isles at all.”)
“Rivals are meant to be annihilated, not befriended,” King bluntly noted.
“Maybe some people need to be defeated. But rivals aren’t usually evil. They can change for the better and become friends…or more if you’re lucky,” Luz said with another dreamy sigh. (Luz: “I wonder if that could happen to me?”)
“Yeah…sure…Now keep reading. I've been sucked into your awful fandom,” King interrupted.
“Okay. Great to see you like this. "Suddenly the door swung open.",” Luz said as her toes dug into the scratchy yet comfy fabric.
All of a sudden, Hooty swung the door open. “Ding-dong. Ding. Hoot! Hoot!”
King panicked, “The book has come to life! Burn it!” (King: “Why did I think enjoying this stuff was a good idea?!”)
Luz goes to the door with her being relaxed as her feet felt the warm worn wood and found a basket by the door.
“Hmm?” Luz was confused as she went to the kitchen, feeling the sleek, clinical and clean texture of the tiled floor, to show what she found to Eda; Luz placed the basket on the table. “Eda, you got a package. It looks like a gift basket.”
“Probably an offering. Ah! Being the most powerful witch in the Boiling Isles has its perks,” Eda bragged.
King now had a bib tied around his neck, grunting as he pulled a blanket off the top of the basket, revealing a snoring baby bat. King wasn’t deterred by this, as he rubbed his paws together. “Mm. Fresh meat.”
Luz, on the other hand, was disgusted by this. “No, not eating that.”
Eda was unamused, though. “Witches eating babies is so 1693. What is this?” (Eda: “Who is disgusting enough to do this?! I am not going to eat a damn baby! Adegast was a monster at heart at least. Wait…? Is this my kid…please don’t let it be that!”)
King then noticed something on the basket, “Hey, there's a note. He grabbed it. “"Take care of my child till morning. Yi Yi."”
“Oh, thank god! We just have to raise this little bundle of joy!” Luz sighed in relief as her toes were no longer tense and relaxed like the rest of her.
“Nope. Babies are awful. Not happening. Tell the parent to find another sitter,” Eda shut it down, though also was relieved it wasn’t the other worse alternatives.
King interrupted, “Don’t speak too soon, Eda. "You will be handsomely rewarded. X-O-X-O-X-O-X. Bat Queen."”
“Bat Queen?” Eda’s eyes lit up. King pulls a few snails out of the basket. (Eda: “Life’s good to me. We even get a down payment.”) Eda's eyes widened now.
“Reward?” Eda was changing her tune with money now in the picture.
“Who's the Bat Queen?” Luz wondered, as she was still new to this world and she wouldn’t know all the royalty.
King, meanwhile, sniffed the snails. “Yep. They’re real all right. We’re gonna be rich after this.”
Eda decided to answer her student’s burning question. “She's the wealthiest demon on the Boiling Isles. She may even be richer than the Blight girl you’ve been hating. (Luz: “I don’t hate her.”) Get in with her and you're set for life.” Eda took one of the snails. “So, we keep this thing alive for a few hours and we get paid. Pfft. Easy.”
“Our greatest adventure yet! Learning about love and life through a child's eyes. Being a mother is a task I always hoped to do. (Luz: “Though I unlikely will ever find a partner of either gender to be with.”)
“Not you. You have to return the books I checked out from the library,” Eda countered as she summoned a pile of books, which Luz catched and she headed for the back door.
“Okay…can I at least get my shoes on first before I-,” Luz asked a bit nervous. She has become more comfortable being barefoot outside, but she wasn’t fully adjusted and didn’t want to ruin her progress by being made fun of. (Luz: “I know Willow said the Isles doesn’t care, and witches do this in part to feel the Isles magic…ahhh…but what if I run into a jerk again?”)
“No! We don’t have time for that! Just get out of here. You can put yourself into those foot prisons and help with the baby once you’re back!” Eda declined as Luz began to head for the kitchen door. Eda whispered to King. “I don't want her getting a cut of the loot. And the sooner she leaves, the sooner we get to count our earnings.
“Good thinking,” King agreed. (Eda: “To be fair, the kid also loves that being barefoot habit of hers. She clearly is much happier and more comfortable that way. Giving her a situation where she can better adjust will be great for her. Getting money on top of that is also great.”)
“Now, let's take a look at this little darling,” Eda decided as she fully took the blanket off. Underneath was a baby bat, who had begun to screech. “Argh!”
King worried, “Oh, boy.”
“On second thought, maybe we could use your help! Do the books barefoot tomorrow, kid!” Eda tried to counter her initial idea. (Eda: “This kid at least loves kids. I am not cut out for the mother thing. I already am coming too close with the student and roommate thing.”)
Luz was too distressed to care about leaving them this time. She was already partway out the back door. “Well, I better get to the library! Got to go! Bye!” Luz closed the door. (Luz: “I’ll deal with my horrible punishment later. I need a break from the screeching first.”)
The baby bat continued screeching, with no sign of stopping.
“We got this, right?” Eda asked as the baby bat flew out of the basket and into Eda's face. “Whoa!” Eda audibly falls.
In the streets of Bonesborough, Luz is struggling to walk with her load, with the weight being lighter than Luz expected. (Luz: “These books are surprisingly light. I guess it’s them being made of magic. My only issue is balance.”) She passed Tinella Nosa, carrying a book as big as Luz.
“Huh? Whoa,” Luz got distracted as she watched Tinella Nosa pass, nearly dropping her books from the turn. She catched them and continued on. Luz could feel the smooth rounded edges of stone and the fine powdery dust under her feet’s soles. “Man, this was easier than I thought.
“Luz!” Luz heard a familiar voice, which happened to be Willow in her Hexside uniform.
“Willow!” Luz was elated to see her friend approach her from the front. “So, you were done with classes but didn’t want to come to visit? I guess you were busy.” Luz said it and meant it nonjudgmentally and kindly but Willow could sense a tiny bit of sadness at the unexpected change in schedule. (Willow: “I should reassure her. Remind her we care.”)
“I just needed to pick up a book at the library for my botanical history homework. I was planning to visit and work with you guys as soon as I was done,” Willow reassured. “Though I can tell you were also planning to head to the library judging by the stack of books. Need a hand? They look to be heavy.”
“Actually, I’m good. These books seem to be made of magic because I am not bothered by the weight at all. The only problem is balance and even then I’ve managed this far,” Luz said. (Luz: “She’s sweet for offering, but this is my task to prove I’m useful. Besides, Willow shouldn’t be uncomfortable for my sake.”)
Willow wanted to bring up a few thing. Like how the books were well over 40 pounds all together considering they were hard cover and also compliment Luz on being able to go out barefoot and be happy, but Willow decided to hold her tongue on both. (Willow: “She can be told once the tasks are over. No need to overwhelm her. Luz could freak out if I brought up her lack of footwear anyway.”)
“Well, we just need to head to the library and complete our tasks and I’ll get to see a magic library in action. I was told to go this way to find adventure. Are we close?” Luz wondered.
“Actually, we’re here,” Willow answered as Luz saw the library across the street from where the girls were.
Luz was in awe just from the outside. “Whoa!” (Luz: “I bet the inside will be even more of a utopia.”)
Luz and Willow entered the library, with Luz still carrying her large stack tirelessly as she entered. Luz could immediately feel a slick, cold grounding and rhythmic magic hum under the large smooth stone slabs. The book pile glows green and begins floating forward, much to Luz’s confusion, “Huh?”
“Levitation magic. It’s an easy spell. I prefer not to use it personally as I prefer using my own strength,” Willow admitted. (Luz: “This is just like a psychic Pokemon or a unicorn from MLP! The Isles keeps getting better!”)
Each book flies through a red spell circle that judges if it is overdue. The librarian responds to each book with a beep coming with the late ones, “Late. Late.”
The librarian grabs the last book as Luz walks to the desk. “Coffee, grass and bloodstains? These are Eda's, aren't they?”
“Yeah. I’ve only know her for like two weeks and she definitely is a chaos agent,” Willow admitted.
“Huh,” Luz said with a hint of nervousness. True to that, Willow. That was a crazy night.”
“I agree. I was there for it,” Willow vouched.
The librarian sighed. “I'll put them on her tab.” He summoned a scroll and wrote on it. “By the way, we're closing early for the Wailing Star meteor shower.” He gestured to a framed picture of the Wailing Star.
Luz looked at the photo in awe. (Willow: “Even if she needs help loving herself, it is sweet to see Luz love the world with all her heart.”) “Ooh. What's that?”
“You're in a library. Read a book,” The librarian grumbled. His scroll rolled up and disappeared.
“I am in a library. I will read a book,” Luz ran off only to stop for a second. “Oh, Willow. Should I come with you while you get your book? I don’t want to ditch you.”
Willow reassured, “It’s fine, Luz. We’ll meet up in a bit. You can explore the library at your own pace and we’ll see each other soon. Meet you at the crystal balls?”
“Sure thing! See you in a brief second!” Luz ran off, wanting to see more of the library on her own time. (Luz: “King and Eda can handle the baby without me. I can always help when I get back. Hopefully.”)
“Shh!” The librarian shushed Luz for being too loud.
Luz found a banner reading "Demon Decimal System DO NOT FEED." Luz rounded the corner and walked up to the growling card catalogues, feeding one of them a gum ball. (Luz: “They likely need a treat after so long just holding paper.”) “Bloop.”
The demon gladly chews the gum ball for a few seconds before barfing up notecards.
Next, at a study area, several Hexside students are reading for their homework or even fun. Luz, meanwhile, is standing on the balcony above them, grabs onto one of the dozens of books flying around to get to their place in the library. “Wow!” Luz is happy before she flies off the balcony into midair, screaming as she kicked her bare feet in panic.
“Shh!” The students shush Luz.
Luz screams but lets out a, “Sorry!”
Finally, at the reference section, witches are watching things on crystal balls (Luz: “They really are like television and computers. Cool!”). One is watching a "HOW TO FLY" video, another is watching a piano cat parody, and a third is stuck on a loading screen, dial-up internet noises emitting from it. The last witch slapped the crystal ball a few times. Luz is watching them from around a bookshelf.
“This place is amazing,” Luz is in bliss to be in a library and to feel totally comfortable. (Luz: “I wonder if it’s the library, or if it is something I am missing?”)
“Oh, Luz!” Willow cried out as she approached, holding a book under her arm. “I checked out the book I needed. You wanna get going to the Owl House first, or do you need to look around a bit more first?”
“I think we can leave for now. This magic library is a blast. I can image making this a second home going forward,” Luz gushed. (Willow: “Ah, Luz can find the light super easily when she lets herself. If only I was a little better at it.”)
“'What do you think you're doing?'” A familiar harsh voice demanded.
Luz panicked quickly. “I've been caught. Pretend to be a book.” Luz posed as she acted liked a book. (Willow: “I think she is doing okay…or maybe not. Luz can be so innocent when caught in the moment.”)
Weirdly enough, children were giggling. “Wait,” Luz decided to see what was going on and walked forward. Willow cautiously followed Luz. They heard the voice coming from the kid’s corner.
In the children’s section, Amity is reading to a group of baby-class students. Not only that, but she was genuinely smiling and enjoying the task.
“"We're your friends and we wanna help," said the Tin Boy with a yelp. Otabin smiled and paced the floor. "I've never had real friends before."” Amity read, making voices and expressions to match the story.
“Amity reading to kids? Did you know this?” Luz asked Willow.
“I had no clue. Didn’t think she had it in her to do something like this,” Willow admitted with skepticism. (Willow: “She likely needed extra credit or something. Doing kind things for the sake of it isn’t in Amity anymore.”)
Luz snuck into the kid's corner as Amity reads, with Willow following to stop Luz from making a mistake.
“"Then we'll be your first," the Chicken Witch clucked. Otabin couldn't believe his luck. So, Bookmaker Otabin surrounded by friends, bound a book of friendship and that's the end,” Amity closed the book to applause from the kids, with Amity’s warm smile present as the applause was happening.
Luz was intrigued. Amity seems so...nice and smiley. (Luz: “This may be a sign we can be together with the right circumstances. She may be a great match overall.”) Luz gasped in joy. “Maybe I can befriend her like Azura befriended her rival.”
“That may be a bad idea, Luz. Remember, Amity is a bully that has been nothing but mean to me and you for a long time. Let’s just get going,” Willow warned.
“But, this could a sign she is redeemable like Hecate is. We can be friends and she would have a person to help guide her into not being a bully. Besides, she was your friend at one point, right?” Luz reminded the plant witch.
Willow knew that Luz was an innocent sweetheart in a lot of ways, but the reality was Amity couldn’t and wouldn’t change. Also, Willow knew that Amity inevitably rejecting Luz would be painful. Best to stop this from happening before the damage is done. “Luz-,” Willow was about to interrupt only for Luz to grunt and duck down as the kids leave. Willow was forced to hide until everyone left (Willow: “Don’t need Luz making a mistake and getting hurt.”)
“Thank you so much,” One kid said while leaving as the kids were all laughing.
“Good‐bye,” A second kid politely said goodbye.
Braxas, a small red demon that looked like Warden Wrath but red and younger hugged Amity's leg. “Goodbye, Miss Amity. Thank you.”
Amity responded with a genuine smile, patting his head. “Thank you, Braxas. See you next time.”
Braxas ran off after this, “Yay
Amity watches him go with her smile still present. (Amity: “Well, that was an extremely fun and helpful destressor. I just need to do some other smaller tasks and I can retire to my hideaway until closing.”) She quickly looked to the side, then does a double take at Luz hiding under a book, with Willow not far behind. Amity's normal attitude returns, with her icy cold scowl that represents it.
“Ugh! You,” Amity groaned.
“Amity... ,” Luz stands and leans on a book, making it fall. (Luz: “Just ignore it, Luz. You need to make this conversation work if you want to be friends with this amazing sweetheart”) “Whoop. Reading to kids. Wow. Looks like this sour lemon drop has a hidden sweet center.”
“Luz,” Willow whispered. “This is still a bad idea. Let’s just leave.”
“It's for extra credit,” Amity bluntly claimed as she picked up the book Luz dropped. “Don't get your leggings in a bunch.” Amity walked to the back of the room.
Luz, rather than give up, decided to follow her. Luz felt the dense slitly scratchy rug underneath her as a high friction texture beneath her wiggling toes. (Willow: “Bad idea, Luz. You’ll only get hurt.”) As Willow tried to stop Luz, the girl was already setting herself up for hurt. “Hey, I could help with the kids. We could take turns reading. And do voices. I do the best,” Luz finished in a robotic tone, “monster voice.” (Amity: “She is being beyond frustrating right now…Yet also kinda cute being what appears to be her goofy self with the confidence to be barefoot and authentic?… Where did that come from? Never mind! Just get her to leave!”)
Amity finally, and sadly for Luz, snapped as she slammed her pile of books on a table. “Human!” She faced Luz as she talked to her. “Do you see me going to the Owl Shack and bugging you while you... fry up owls?” Amity scoffed with her scowl. “Okay, I don't really know what you do there, but every time you come near me, I get in trouble. Just leave me alone.”
Luz meekly backed up. “I'm sorry. I'm sorry.” Luz apologized with a sad look. Luz walked away at this. Amity’s expression softened a tiny bit and started to raise her hand to stop her, but doesn't.
“Well, I hope you’re happy for that Amity,” Willow noted sadly as she left as well.
Amity, meanwhile, lost her scowl and looked somewhat sad. She quickly forced herself to look away and get back to work (Amity: “Willow…I’m sorry. And you too Luz. I never intended to hurt you, Luz. I still don’t like her and would rather stay away, but I can’t deny that I feel guilty for overreacting in this situation. She just wanted to be friends. While there could have been an ulterior motive to being friends, there also could not be one? Maybe? It’s confusing. What is this girl’s deal? How can she be successful without being serious and cold like me? Is she a poser? A nerd? All I know is there is something more to Luz. After all, there was indeed something fake about her optimism. Hopefully the answer to that mask of hers isn’t the cruel reason I fear it is and am setting myself up for.”)
Luz, meanwhile, groaned and bumped her fist against her forehead. “So much for befriending rivals.”
Willow caught up to Luz and reassured as both girls stopped. “Amity rejecting you isn’t your fault. She is just a bully to the core. She may have been fine once, but that girl that was my friend isn’t there anymore…as much as I’d prefer otherwise. But moving on is the best move, Luz. We can find other friends for you to make.”
“I know…it’s just…Amity is a much better person at magic than me and also the prettiest girl I think has ever existed. She also showed just now she can still be kind like in your past. I just…I want to be friends with her. I don’t know why. I don’t want to give up yet. I want her to at least see me for me before she chooses to reject me. (I mean, if top student Amity Blight likes me maybe I am not the screw-up I think I am. It would also be amazing if we ever dated. I love her soul and intelligence so much I don’t want it to be lost without someone to help show these amazing qualities.),” Luz explained her thoughts to Willow.
Willow gave a knowing smile. (You really aren’t being subtle this is a crush. You may not know it yet, but it is one. It’s just bad it had to be on Amity of all people.) “Maybe…and I get it. Still, I’d prefer if you didn’t try making friends with Amity….But if you won’t give up I can at least be a shoulder to cry on if things go wrong.”
“I’d rather not cry. I don’t want to be a burden. But…thanks. I just…am sad I couldn’t be a great redeeming friendship person like Azura,” Luz admitted.
“You gonna let her get to you like that?” A male voice asked, getting both girls’ attention.
Both of them look over and sees Edric and Emira, two older teens with darker green hair each with a mole on their face, wearing the Hexside illusion track uniform, with Emira having flat shoes rather than the typical boots. The twins walk up to the duo, Edric holding a rabbit lunch bag.
“Who are you?” Luz questioned.
“Well-wishers on a mission,” Edric answered cryptically.
“A noble quest,” Emira noted.
“Watch this. Hey, Mittens,” Edric called out to Amity, who grunted with a embarrassed and angry expression as her face turned bright red. Edric held up the cutesy lunch bag. “Mom says stop forgetting your lunch. And stop being a jerk to your friend.”
Amity stalks over and grabs the bag. “First, you didn’t have to pack my lunch in that bag. Second, she is not my friend.”
Luz looks down at the floor sadly, but looks back up when Emira puts an arm around her. “Yeah, makes sense. She seems too cool for you. She has the look of a cute yet cool rebel.”
Luz was surprised to hear this, unaware the rebel look came from Luz being barefoot and confident, “I am? And I do?”
“You can leave now. All of you,” Amity demanded as she walked back into the kid's corner to continue working.
Edric chuckled while Emira winked at Luz, and Luz chuckles and blushes as her toes wiggled, but not as much as she did around Amity. Willow noticed Luz blush, and decided it was best to stay quiet (Willow: “Yep. Luz is definitely attracted to girls. She likely is bisexual as she also talked about liking boys once or twice. She’ll hopefully find someone some day.”)
The group of four began to walk around the library after this.
“So, you're the human we've heard so much about. And it looks like you became friends with Willow. We heard she is doing great in the plant track now,” Edric noted.
Willow gave a bashful blush at this, “Aw, I’m nothing special.”
“Don’t sell yourself short, Willow. Anyways, I'm Emira. And this is Edric. We're Amity's older siblings,” Emira explained.
“Amity has older siblings? I thought she was an only child. Did you know Amity has siblings, Willow? Sorry, dumb question,” Luz questioned as she internally groaned at herself.
“Well, yes. But we didn’t interact much. I honestly know little about them. But there are amazing illusion track students. They are among the best students of their age group and are naturally talented at magic,” Willow explained what she knew.
“Like you are with plant magic?” Luz complimented.
Willow blushed once more, “I guess…thanks, Luz.
“We are more than our grades, kid. Anyways, we heard how you embarrassed Amity at the school and at the witch Covention a little while back. No wonder she hates you,” Emira noted. (Luz: “Dang it! So much for friendship and possibly more someday. Wait. I can’t give up. Azura wouldn’t. Besides, Amity may need a friend to help her understand the weight of her bullying.)
“I know. But, uh, I didn't mean any of it. I thought we were as cool as cucumbers. But we're as sour as pickles,” Luz sadly noted.
“Don't waste your time with Mittens. Me and Ed, we're way more fun. Human, Willow, we can give you a good time. Follow us,” Emira said as the group walked off, Luz looking down at where Emira was holding her wrist. Willow knew she had homework to do, but she could afford a few minutes with the popular witches. (Willow: “Okay, don’t freak out. You’re just being included with the fun of popular witches from Hexside. Sure, they’re Amity’s siblings, but that doesn’t matter. Just have a bit of fun with this opportunity. Luz could use the self esteem boost in order to help fix her issues with her self worth, anyway.)
The group went to a sign reading "<- FICTION NON-FICTION->". Edric wiped away the "NON" part and hid as Gary, a second librarian walks up, leading some witch and demon patrons.
“And here we go towards our nonfiction section,” Gary saw the edited sign and gasped upon seeing the sign. “Fiction, fiction? Is our world but fiction? Then what in my life is real anymore?” Gary then began sobbing. (Luz: “Okay, a little sad that he is crying, but it is innocent pranking. It is still a little bit funny. It won’t be too bad.”)
Next, a librarian is reading while shelving the books. As he put one on the shelf, it glowed blue and flew back onto the reshelving cart. This happens several times before Emira is revealed to be doing it, her, Edric, Willow, and Luz all laughing, though Willow and Luz were laughing a little less intensely. Edric then switched the place of the two librarians, one of which was Gary.
Gary was confused at the swap, “Huh? No! Not again!” And began sobbing once more as the librarian fell off a ladder. (Luz/Willow: “Funny, but hopefully he is okay.”)
Edric is now holding up a dusty book. He blew the dust at the demon decimal system, which all sneezed, showering the area with notecards.
“Whoo!” Luz cheered as the four all laughed and as Luz danced and the twins high five.
“Hey!” Amity yelled as she frowned and was standing next to the librarian, both of them with their arms crossed. He looks around, growling as he realized something. “Wait. Where's Gary?”
Right on cue, Gary ran in. “Coming. Nooo!” And began sobbing a third time over the new mess that would have to be cleaned.
At the front entrance, Luz, Willow, and the twins are shoved out.
“Whoa!” The quartet exclaimed as they were pushed from the building.
The librarian scolded, “You've made reading far too fun. Now, stay out.” As the door slammed shut behind him. The four of them looked at the door for a second before laughing. Emira punched Luz's shoulder.
Willow was the first to stop, “That was an adventure. I’m just lucky this isn’t a permanent ban for any of us as I still need this book for class.” Willow said as she noticed the librarian let her still have the book she checked out. (Willow: “That was beyond lucky and fortunate.”)
Luz was next to stop, “Yeah…These pranks didn’t ruin future fun library time for any of us. Still, Amity's even madder at me now. I didn't think that was possible.”
Edric retorted, “No, when Mittens gets mad, she looks like this.” He inhaled sharply, grunting as his face turns red; he then exhales as if he is out of breath. “Whoa, I almost passed out.”
Emira then said with a smile. “You're pretty fun, human. And so are you, Willow. I can’t imagine why Mittens stopped being friends with you so suddenly.” She and Edric nod at each other, coming to an agreement silently. “So, hey, we're coming back tonight. There's a certain book we forgot to... check out.”
“And bonus, rumor has it the Wailing Star's supposed to unlock some rare magical event. You in, friends?” Edric offered.
Luz grew a massive grateful smile on her face as her toes began wiggling in glee, “Sure.” (Luz: “This could be a bit risky, but if it means making friends then I guess going will be fine. It’s not like we’ll be destroying stuff or hurting anyone, right?”)
“I- uh…I’m not sure about sneaking in after hours…,” Willow tried to kindly reject the offer. Fun pranks and troublemaking is one thing, but breaking and entering could be a risk for them both.
“We won’t be doing anything dangerous or life threatening to us or anyone else, Willow. Just relax,” Emira said casually.
“Well…Alright. I’m in,” Willow decided. (Willow: “After all, I need to make sure Luz doesn’t get herself into a fix to impress these two. I don’t want Luz to get hurt or betrayed, not that the twins will do that, but you never know.”)
“Great. Meet back here at midnight. See you, Luz. And you too Willow,” Edric said farewell as the twins left. Luz waves at them gleefully as did Willow a bit less certainly.
Luz said, “Bye.”
“Luz? Are you sure breaking in is a good idea? We could get in even bigger trouble like a permanent ban from the library. You did say you loved this place after all. Maybe we can just hang out with Edric and Emira another time,” Willow warned.
“True. I don’t know if breaking in for fun is such a great idea. I mean, the Conformatorium and Hexside were to help others,” Luz began.
“Wait. You broke into the Conformatorium before?” Willow was confused and shocked (Willow: “What in the world possessed her to do that?!”)
“Yeah. The first day I was here to help Eda steal back King’s toy crown. But, anyway, this is a great chance for me to make new friends. Friends that are cool yet great people that can maybe give us pointers on how to be confident in the future. But if you want out, you don’t have to stay, Willow. You can stay home,” Luz offered the out for the kind yet dangerous plant witch.
Willow looked at Luz for a moment before sighing, “I’m still in. Let’s just be careful, okay?”
“Okay. You go get your homework done. I’ll meet you back here later. See ya!” Luz waved goodbye.
“See you at midnight,” Willow left as she waved back.
As soon as Willow left, Luz began to wiggle her toes even more excitedly and gleefully than before. “This is great. First, I befriend the siblings then I befriend the Amity.” (Luz: “I still have the perfect chance to make friends with the amazing and perfect and secretly kind Amity Blight! We’ll be the ultimate couple of friends and maybe more eventually!”) Luz squeals and ran off, read to prepare for a night that, unbeknownst to her, would change her life for the best in the long run in ways she didn’t expect.
However, Luz wasn’t alone. Amity is standing around the corner, likely having seen the whole thing. (Amity: “So my siblings plan to destroy my sanctuary when no one is around to stop them. And Luz and Willow will be there to. Willow…you’re better than this. But I guess I couldn’t expect differently from Luz. I have to be there to stop whatever their plan is! I will not lose even my safe space to them!”) Amity held her breath until her face turns red.
Amity, however, eventually grunted as she exhaled. “Phew! Almost passed out.”
