Summary
“I’ve been thinking about dying.” The words leave him before he realises how insane they sound. Look at him; the descendant of a long line of warriors, strong and powerful, rulers who fought for his people. Look at him; wallowing in bed, dreaming of dying. Perhaps Erebor is better out of his hands.
Bilbo, to his credit, looks significantly less bewildered than Thorin had expected him to. Worried, more so, but not totally bewildered. He’s changed, Thorin thinks. The old Bilbo would have probably said alright then and found a polite way to end the conversation. Instead, this one just says, “Okay.”
