Summary
Set approximately five years before the main series begins.
Mysterious masked agents operate under a clandestine organization known as Echelon, who manipulate politics, gather intelligence, plot, and serve their own agenda while the world waits for the Dragon to reveal himself.
When a scheme to assassinate the First of Mayene is uncovered by Echelon, field operatives known to each other only by code names are dispatched to investigate and defend the First if necessary. Is the attempt on Berelain's life a simple assassination, or part of a grander plot?
